hard handle replacement question...

so i broke the tip on an sdd8 snap on screwdriver. called up snap on they sent me a replacement shank. now i was trying to take the handle off the old one and in the process it broke. i tried the vice/prybar method... no luck then i tried the wrench and hammer method and it broke in half. i think it was already cracked.

my question is how to you take the old handle off without tearing it up, and also they are sending me a new handle... how do you install the new handle without tearing it up?
