hard handle SO ratchet

Look what I made for a customer. He begged for me to put the hard handle on it.
So we did it.... used a 7/16 drill bit and drilled out an older screwdriver handle
sorry for a low quality pic. had to use the cell phone

7/16" Hole is a press fit with no adhesive/bond/filler needed ???

I just drilled it out. nothing extra. I ordered the handle for the old sdd8, it is a little bigger than the old style handle was, but it still feels good

I modified mine before it ever turned a bolt.Just bought the long 24"flexhead too and it's getting a transplant as soon as i get time.

yeah I listed the handle numbers a few weeks back.
i think they have a few
sdd6r-1r and sdd6r1ro for orange no dash
sdd5r-1r and sdd5r1ro for orange no dash

sdd8r-1r and sdd8r1ro for orange no dash
some part numbers supercede to another number. but if you play with numbers ( snap on guys dss software) you can find ones that are still active.

Man I bet snap on is going to suddenly have a bunch of orders for those handles. I'd be all over it but I have avoided the softgrip ratchets on all but a long flex 1/4". I might have bought the softgrip and converted them over if I had known I could do this.

but how do you take the soft grip off with out ruining it? my buddy wants to keep the ones i remove, and now that i have a new snap-on driver im gunna have a bunch of transplanting to do, and a bunch of soft grips to take off

My snap-on guy has a press that does all the work takes em off like butter

mayb ill just have the new driver do it. i have put new hard handles on ratchets that had cracked hard handles on them but iev never messed with soft grips cuz i dont like them, but i was on his truck today and didnt see the press, our old driver had the press your talking about i know what it looks like, but the new guy dint have it on his bench. he is new to the business, last week was his first week, but hes a great guy im gunna try to get him on this forum

why won't the people designing the snap on realize there is still a big market for these? we are not the only bunch of people that like them.

if they are gonna build a handle for a ratchet or screwdriver that they don't warranty, why not make it a good one to begin with?

I just got a hard instinct handle from my dealer earlier today to drill it out for the same reason. Hopefully it turns out ok, don't see why not.

you have to hld your tongue just right to get the soft grips off without marring them a little. unless you know what you are doing...

are you saying its difficult even with the handle changing press, or are you saying with out the press its difficult to do without damaging the soft grip?
either way im not too concerned, the guy that wants the grips does not care of the condition of the grips, but i do i dont want to destroy brand new grips if i dont have to.
