Hello
Just joined, looks like a lot of info on all things to be had.
I was out the other day looking at a pickup, and spotted this 54H sitting outside on a railway luggage wagon.
In the end, I traded a 6in & a 8in switchblade for it.
It's had a hard life. Broken & rewarded o the neck of the slider jaw & on the screw just on the far side of the collar. Both done very well.
I took it home & used a knotted cup wheel on the body. There was just a nut welded on three end of the handle, which I rounded off after some MIG work. I also leveled out the weld on the neck to smooth it out.
This thing is a beast @ 135#. I think anything put into these jaws today wouldn't stand a chance against crushing compared to the hard virgin steel of years gone by.
The last few pics are or some of my other vises. I have a few hand & jewlers vises tucked away somewhere.
