I was gazing lovingly upon my tools last night, and was shocked to discover that my Snap On HLE24 Piston Dead Blow Hammer had disintegrated while sleeping in its drawer. This hammer was last used 14 or so years ago, and had been sleeping undisturbed ever since.
I took it to my dealer this morning, and he ordered me a new one, saying this is the first time he had ever seen that happen, but he had seen several of the old square black screwdriver handles come apart with age, something I have never heard of.
RIP, old friend, you did your job well.

Too late for pictures, have camera, but TOO complicated, hammer already went to the big warranty return box in the sky.

I used to have a SIMPLE HP 3MP camera, but the fker disappeared. The new Panasonic 8MP ( which was obsolete the day I bought it at 30% off at Wal-Mart) is complicated enough that I cannot even set the day/date. This project is on the 'to do' list, just as the project of figuring out how to work my IPOD. What is really sorry, is that I KNEW how to transfer pictures to/from the computer using the HP software. All this minituarization has its downsides, smaller means easier to misplace, and who needs 43.7 ways to take a picture?

I was cleaning out my neighbor lady's garage and found several dead blow hammers (the orange plastic ones with lead shot in the head, don't know the brand).
First two I used shattered like glass. Too many hot and cold cycles over the years, I guess. I haven't tried any of the rest, should probably just throw them all away just to be safe.

What? You don't have any kids in the house? I just hand any new device to my 17 year old son and he programs it and teaches me the basics. And he never consults a manual. I told him he could never move out, He is my permanent IT manager

I am 19 years old. My first camara, it work ok, broke it......
I have a Canon, it takes a while to learn it.....

This is a known issue on the OEM Snapon and other brands from the same company (trusty-cook i believe)... they should all be warranted; I just go one replaced the other day!

This is a known issue on the OEM Snapon and other brands from the same company (trusty-cook i believe)... they should all be warranted; I just go one replaced the other day!

I agree, this is not new news. I had one I bought new turn a chalky white color, then split and crack which I turned in for replacement. Very routine for Snappy dead blow hammers.

All of the orange SO hammers I owned been replaced under warranty. They are disinigrated after around 10 years.

If you look at the black soft face dead blow the one side is just laying next to it. The hammer is about ten years old and had never been used. First time I got it out and used it, the whole cap over the metal guts grenaded. I'm not a mechanic so I haven't decided how I'm going to get it replaced.

I have a rawhide hammer that's about 30 years old. I'll check in on it but last time it was used it worked fine.

Heck, those are not even the old design, those are the new ones! The old design (or at least mine) turned a chalky white color before they went to hell.
