Hardhat Headlamp recommendations

Currently my headlamp is just me holding my Streamlight Protac2L in my mouth which has worked fine for the last 8 or so years. However the other night it was close to 0° outside my N2 plant and my flashlight froze to my lips :D So I want to buy an actual headlamp for my hardhat. Doesn't necessarily need to carry any hazardous location rating, but if it did Class 1 Div 2 would cover it.
Any recommendations?

The plant I work for issues Streamlight 61050 headlamps. They fit well on a hardhat and are often bright enough for equipment inspections in dark areas.

Halo expensive but its worth it. It locks onto your hardhat and has rechargeable batteries that you can switchout.

FoxFury has a lot of models designed specifically for use with helmets and hard hats. They also have water/fire/shock resistant and intrinsically safe models.

I'm a headlamp geek and use them a lot but not in an industrial setting. You're going to ge the best overall light quality and output performance from a Li-ion driven lamp with a modern power LED and a well designed driver circuit (something like a Zebralamp light or one of the many clones) but they are not designed specifically for use with hard hats or to conform with industrial safety or other standards. It's up to you whether you want to sacrifice one for the other.

Also note I have never owned or used a FoxFury product. I've only become aware of them through a lot of exposure to flashlight manufacturers as part of my hobby.

Good luck!

Have a Halo great for making yourself visible while working near roads. Good flood but will blind others near you and you can't tilt the light. I have switched to a Fenix HR60R with the hard hat mount. I couldn't happier with it. Takes 18650s plus its USB rechargeable.

A lot of the new hard hats coming out have light mounts built in. I have always used a slot mount holder for my flashlight, this way I can use the flashlight to inspect things then clip on the hardhat when I need both hands. Not a big fan of the usb charge headlamps. I want to be able to change out the batteries if my light dies and be back to work in a few min rather than waiting for the headlamp to charge or switch to a second headlamp.

This is similar to what I use

I am running a Klein rechargeable, nice thing is at high settings it lasts 9hrs. The Milwaukee flashlights and headlights are disappointing when you look at runtimes.

Unfortunately I can't glue or stick anything on my hardhat(company rules, they say any adhesive will degrade the hardhat) :headscrat So I'm pretty much stuck with one that has a rubber strap or the clip things that pop into the slots on the side.
I don't necessarily need intrinsically safe right now since I only run Nitrogen and O2 plants, but I might have to cover sites where the customer requires it in the future so It probably isn't a bad idea. The Milwaukee 2004HZL looks nice but doesn't have any reviews, other than that the Pelican 2765 and Nightstick XPP-5460GX both look good too. Hmmmm decisions

I use the Milwaukee. It is rechargeable and the battery can be charged outside of the light if you get the holder. That way you can swap a fresh battery in. Also, that battery is used in many other items. Too bad they don’t really market that feature.

The headlamp likes to pop off the hard hat so I zip tied it to the hard hat. We are not allowed to glue, use any stickers, drill, or modify in any way our hard hats. Of course ppl do it but I have multiple hard hats. The weight of the headlamp gets to be much so I wouldn’t recommend leaving it on all day.

Have the company buy you a hardhat with a clip and use a miners light.

Miners hard hats aren't Class E which I need. The Milwaukee and Klein Class E hard hats with clips are proprietary, so I'd be stuck with either a Milwaukee or Klein headlamp.
Most of my work is done during the day anyway so I'll probably just grab that Pelican 2765.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone

Nobody should glue, fasten, drill into a hard hat if you value your safety. It’s not just your company’s policy, ask the manufacturer.

I totally agree, I could have worded that a little differently. I get not glueing or drilling into a hard hat, that makes total sense. But rules against stickers and double sided tape I don't really understand.

I always find it funny we have annual safety training for certain customer sites and we get a special qualification sticker that we're supposed to put on our hard hats that aren't supposed to have any stickers :lol_hitti
