I'm starting to put up my soffits on the new garage. Using the Hardie vented soffit boards. Before I start I was wondering if anyone has had any problems with insect infiltration with this product? Do I need to glue screens to cover the holes? I called Hardie cust. service, and they claimed no, but I'm not sure. Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks, Doc

Typically, the bugs that would be an issue are too big to fit through the holes. But if, like me, you tend towards overkill in design it isn't hard to use spray adhesive to glue fiberglass window screen to the back side of the soffit for extra protection.

I was thinking something similar, the holes are large enough for bees etc to get into...even carpenter bees.

I would attach some kind of metal screening if it really bothers you.
I'll just keep a lookout for anything going in/out and do something about it when I see it.

I was told 1/4" mesh is too small for paper wasps to be interested in.

I found out they like it just fine. :(

I went the safe route and put some screen on the backside. Kind of tedious to do,but I know that boxelder bugs and such would find their way in those holes.
