Looking to get some nut/bolt/washer assortments for the shop so I don't have to run to the hardware store every time I need something.

Primarily do automotive work in the shop, so i know there are definitely some specialty items I won't be able to stock. But I'd like to at least keep some basics around that I can replenish as need be. Have plenty of room to store all this, but would like to keep it cost effective and have a decent selection up to 1/2" and M10 or so.

What have you guys found that you like?

Would be interested in this as well .......was able to buy a bunch of assorted quality hardware back about 8 years ago when a local hardware store closed. I was fine until about 6 month ago ... have run out of some common items. My remaining local hardware store sells the same line they always have .. but it's all from China now .. and it's just not as good.

Fastenal would be a good choice for things like nuts, bolts, etc. in both metric and SAE and assorted grades. They have a much bigger selection compared to the big box stores and they can ship to you.

You could also ask local auto repair shops where they buy fasteners and other hardware. Chances are their suppliers would be local.

I've used Fastenal on many occassions. I'm looking for something where I can just buy a bulk assortment and not have to piecemeal something together.

Sheeesh, I feel like this came up semi-recently but I can't find anything on the google or GJ. I remember seeing some pre-assembled kits. I'd consider spending a reasonable amount for a pre-made kit to get everything organized and then just add or replenish as necessary.

All the fastener companies I listed have "kits". The base kits usually include a plastic organizer with lid. The higher quality kits use a Durham steel style tray with lid.

For me, I end up with a lot of hardware I don't use when I buy those kits. I've gotten in the habit of picking up extra when I do go to the hardware store and even grab some that I know I will use. The key for me was to have the storage containers ready to have a place to put them and then to be able to find them later.
