Well, I am tired of never having fastners on hand when I need them. It seems like I am always running to the store to buy a particular nut, bolt, washer ect...

Can anyone reccomend an organized kit that I can buy that comes with a good assortment of hardware? Standard, metric, both, I'd be interested in looking at either. I've been looking around online without much luck, and I am sure that they exist out there somewhere. Something that comes in some drawers or some form of organization woult be great, this what I can replenish whatever I may be running low on.

Thanks guys!

I know Northern Tool has kits. You can find several different assortments from screws, bolts, and nuts, to o-rings and such. Also, Harbor Freight has some assortments. The only drawback is the HF stuff is not the best hardware. It will do in a pinch, but not for anything long service or heavy duty. They have o-ring, band clamps, nuts and bolts in kits.

Best thing to do is get the HF kits. For $10 bucks a pop typically you can get nice assortments. I have about 20 of them sitting on my little box. Everything from O rings to cotter pins and everything in between.

Yeah I have a bunch of the kits from HF for o rings, cotter pins, clevis pins ect. However, I am looking for something a little more comprehensive than what they have to offer for nuts/bolts/washers. The ones Northern Tool has are similar in size to the HF kits as well.

I was looking for the same thing a few months ago. I couldn't find any kits that were high-quality USA-made like I was looking for, so I ended up buying about a dozen assorted Dorman kits from Advance Auto Parts. When you shop smart on their website and use coupon codes, you can get a pretty good deal.

This thread can take on many lives but my take on this common issue was to find used bins and fill them with what I needed. Bins came from a Tractor supply store that was closing/moving to a new location. All the re-stock has come from McMaster. Never buy a bolt from box stores unless an emergency Found you can almost get a box of them for what they charge for a pack of 2.. Many other options but this has me covered.. problem is you may never stop adding to it once you start!!

When I had my place, I bought a SAE bolt/nut/washer assortment from NAPA. For the other hardware items, I was lucky enough to score keystock, e-clips, cotter pins, etc, from a local hardware store that was going out of business.

I would buy replacement bolt and hardware from TSC, since it was all made in the USA at the time.

I filled some bolt bins bought used with bulk hardware from a local farm supply that sells nuts and bolts by weight. Waited for them to have a 30% off sale one time, then another where anything you put in a five gallon bucket was 40% off. I filled three buckets with nuts and bolts. It has been so nice to have hardware on hand instead of having to go to the store for one more bolt.

I've got some of the sets from tptools.com and they are good quality: http://www.tptools.com/SearchResult.aspx?searchPhrase=Assortment They have a lot more that what the "assortment" search turns up. Their print catalog has four pages devoted to various hardware sets.

I also like these Durham metal boxes at Amazon http://www.amazon.com/dp/B006WQB0NC/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1YH9LS9UDFMDX&coliid=I1MF2DGCRY0RB7

Or the cheap plastic storage boxes from HF work great too, about $3 or $4 on sale.

That's what I'd do if I needed a lot. In the kits, I have used the Dorman and I like them pretty good.

Lowe's sells kits, I'm sure HD does too. For the quality I don't think they're as good as what you can get loose or in boxes but they sell them. Recently I have been buying 'much' more than I need whenever I need to buy fasteners. Nowhere near a full assortment but I have enough extras I need to do some real organization soon.

Every time I go to buy fasteners I intentionally buy way too many and maybe even a couple different sizes. After a while you rarely have to go buy anything

I hate having to make a second trip to the hardware store when I'm working on a project. So if I am in need of a few nuts and bolts, I'll buy a dozen of each I need, then a size shorter and longer just in case. I figure if I spend $2-3 in extra bolts now, it's cheaper than my time lost having to come back for them later.
