Does anyone know of storage containers that don't allow hardware (specifically washers) to move from bin to bin? I am currently using this for my commonly used smaller stuff. It just seems like every time I go to use it, i'm plucking hardware from various bins.

Does anyone know if this style from harbor freight is any better?

there is a mega thread on here about building cabinets for those. yes, that style is better, it uses individual bins instead of adjustable inserts.

i bought a batch of the black/yellow HF ones. they're decent, but the plastic quality DOES leave some to be desired. the name brands in lowes/HD look to be much sturdier. i find they stay mostly separated, but the lid can flex and allow some smaller stuff to move around

Home Depot used to have husky branded containers that were the same size as these from Plano (https://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/plano®-prolatch™-stowaway-tackle-box-001925080p) that I really liked and had probably 30 of but they were discontinued. The Plano ones are not as well made but are close enough to work with what I already have.

I don't keep a big stash of large fasteners but rather have a wide selection of random small stuff so I prefer to have the smaller containers vs the packout/dewalt larger sized container.

You can buy bins from RM Schaller Corporation, they have all shapes and sizes, but you pay to play. They offer a wall rack that you can use to kind of hang up the bins.

Sorry, I misread your original post, I thought you wanted bins that allowed you to move them easier.

The type you are looking for are the ones Milwaukee has, they are really good and they lock together.

Facebook marketplace find. Even the adjustable bins hold stuff secure with the lid.

Empty and clean Peanut Butter and Apple Sauce jars fit my budget and their contents are easily ascertained.

classic old school approach! Just punch holes in the lids and attach to the underside of shelves with a couple of small screws.

For me, I have couple of the tiny drawer organizers attached to a wall and 2 DeWalt briefcase sized organizers for larger stuff. One holds mostly deck screws of different sizes and a few other fasteners. The other one holds electrical stuff. Wire nuts, conduit fittings, crimps, stuff like that.

I posted these pics in the past, I made this from salvaged metal shelves and some thrift store ball bearing slides. I built it to fit the grey Harbor Freight bins that are sold in 10 packs. It has worked out very well.

What I use for all the "small" stuff is the mini jelly jars( tiny, smaller that baby food jars) that you are sent in the cheese and salami gift baskets with that little box of crackers that are gone in one bite

I put a small magnet in with some of the smaller hardware just to keep it under control.
I have done this, but with the thin flat advertising magnets that are on the front of the free phone books. Of course, we no longer get phone books, but you know what I am talking about.

Simply cut the magnet and lay it in the bottom of the bin. FYI, advertisement side down or it won't be magnetized.

For temporary storage of small parts during disassembly; I use a magnetic dish like those sold at Harbor Freight.

I recently sorted out all my standard threaded stuff. I have much more metric than standard, and I found that one of these was sufficient. I have it sitting vertically and nothing gets around the edges between bins.
