Can anyone suggest a good quality garage door keypad
Needs to be hardwired.

I have just about had it with my wireless sears keypad.
Seems like whenever the cold weather arrives the keypad never works or it takes six times before it Opens the door.

I have a sears garage door opener.

Funny the remotes for the cars work just fine
But this wireless keypad is a piece of ****.

Thanks

According to Mr. personality in the video,
You really don’t have many choices other than the domino brand.

I may have to give that a shot.

Hmmm
I may go for this one....

It’s got a lot of capabilities I won’t use but I like the fact then I can power it 12v DC Through a wall wart.

No more dead batteries.

According to the Q&A
It can be wired to a garage door opener no problem.

And maybe in the future if I can figure out what an RFID card is...

I can use a couple of those to open it.

Typical failure in cold weather is usually batteries or frequency drift. Try changing them this time every year. That said, we have a LiftMaster that is 10 years old, the batteries still work fine.

I bought a small lock box with roller numbers for the combination, kind of like a realtor puts on a door. Inside that I put two micro push buttons that are parallel wired in with the opener buttons inside. Put in the 4 digit code, open the box door, push a button, close the box door. Haven't had to worry about batteries in years. I got the idea from a cabin we rented and they had one of the boxes with the keys in it.

That’s a cool idea Mark.
I have one of those left over from when we bought this house 25 years ago actually....

It’s hidden on the back porch with a spare front door key.... just in case

For the garage I want something a little simpler.

Yeah
I’ve tried everything... New batteries/putting in a new code/ I even tried extending the little antenna off of the garage door opener to get it closer

I’m through messing with it.

I’m going to order that second one I posted from Amazon and give it a go.

I can wire it right to the wires for the key switch.

Speaking of that keyswitch
When I installed it I only gave it just enough wire so if anyone pull the nails out and ripped the switch out,
all the wire would stay deep inside the wall.

Here’s what I got now

John, we have used that same wireless keypad with only 1 replacement in 20 years.

We had an issue with LED lights that emitted Electromagnetic Interference so if you have LED lights anywhere in the house make sure they are OFF and see if you still have issues. The fix that time was a new (updated) card for the opener.
We have since moved on to a Liftmaster 8500W system but the same old keypad operates it just fine too.

I don't think they make hard-wired remotes, or they're at least very rare, because of security concerns. All you have to do is unscrew it from the wall and short the wires together and you're in. You've added a small amount of security to your key switch by keeping the wires short, but I'm sure you could still stick your fingers in there and reach the wires.

And where's the security in that? You pop that off and short the contacts and the door opens. At least figure out a way to secure it with carriage bolts.

Genie had a great one. I'm not sure why it was discontinued:

It mounted the keypad outside with a ribbon cable that ran to a controller secured inside.

I would be more worried about someone stealing the code on that old a unit. Does it have rolling codes?

Also - many units have a limited number of remotes. I noticed that when I programed the Acura with its onboard garage door opener it knocked a couple other remotes off the opener. Our remotes with 3 pads count for 3 remotes when all three pads are programmed. So with three remotes, 3 pads each = 9, the one security one outside = 10, plus the Acura 3 =13, something gets kicked off. Now I just program one pad (switch) on each.

That’s very interesting

Because within the last year I replaced all my T 12 florescence with
110v conversion. LEDS

You would be wrong.

I didn’t just fall off the Apple truck.

If you can fit your fingers in a 1.625 hole
Call me because the circus is hiring

Are you kidding me?

Do you think I just fell off the turnip truck?

I carry a Leatherman. I wouldn't have any trouble reaching the wires with the pliers. And that's assuming you stapled the wires firmly at the back of the hole. If there's any slack, they'll pull out with the switch.

That's not to say that such a switch couldn't be secured. You could put a tamper contact behind it that triggers a latching alarm if it's disassembled.

And like I said before

I wired the switch from the inside out

In other words

I drilled a hole
Then pushed the wire out/ connected the switch
Then when I got to the inside of the 2 x 4 frame, I drove a £.16 nail and wrap the wire around it tightly.

So from the outside

If you pull the switch out
You end up with nothing.

It’s exactly a 7 inch hole.

OK now you’re going to pick on the switch that’s been used for 100 years

No I need to buy a tamperproof switch.

I swear there’s always one in the crowd.

I just realize the people probably don’t understand what I’m talking about.

But on the inside of the wall
There is a connection for the two wires which unplugs

So if you pull the switch out
The connection breaks and you have nothing

My Craftsman GDO is over 20 years old and the keypad has never given me any trouble, hot or cold. I think I changed the battery once. Wearing gloves, however, makes it a little more challenging.

I have the same opener and keypad. I never noticed whether it was cold or not, but it would get balky once in a while. Try punching the numbers in slower. Since I've been doing that it has worked very consistantly.

Bumping old thread as I'm looking for a similar thing.

Currently we have a momentary switch (doorbell) INSIDE house that opens garage door. Two wires, pushing button momentarily completes circuit.

I didn't install it. Was done by previous owner. Wire runs from inside house to garage under ground in conduit. So we don't have the security issues.

Convenient but my 7yo likes to endlessly press the button.

I think the Domino GD1 will work but I'd prefer one box. The GD1 keypad is separate from the controller as the controller is designed to mount on the opposite side of wall to mitigate security issues.

Generic keypad momentary switches exist but all the ones I've found need 12v/24v power and I need something battery operated.

Hey John - looking to do the same as you.

Can you provide instructions on how to wire it in for a garage door opener?
