Hey all- I have 5 or 6 shop-lights in my basement that I want to be able to control on a switch. They are a mix of t-8 and LED 4 footers that have a cord. I intend to extend my existing basement lighting circuit to include single gang boxes to plug in the shop lights. It I leave a pull chain light in the "on"!position, will they function normally on a switched circuit?? This would free up most of my extension cords that are currently feeding these lights :)

Thanks!

Yep, they sure will. All of my T-8 lights in my garage, all the ones in my basement, and the ones in my shed are wired up like you want, and they are all the pull cord type.

They work great with the switch to turn them on and off. Every now and then I will turn one off via the pull cord because I need to see up into the area directly above them, and with them on, the glare prevents me from seeing what I need to see. Kind of like when the sun shines in your face and you hold your hand up to your face to block out the sun so you can see stuff.

I just cut the cord/plug, drill a hole in the cover of the ceiling box , hook them to it....

Cool. Thanks for the info. I would like to wire the whole basement with can lights but for now I can at least get my 5 shop lights on a switch and get the cords that are all strung out put away.
