I've got several plywood questions. A friend of mine has a lot of plywood that he got from work that he said didn't pass quality control. It looks like really nice stuff (from the pictures he sent) & he said that it maybe had a corner nicked or some other very minor defect.
He said they are: "Flat die boards made of either Ash or Hard Maple. 7 Layer veneer sheets. 48x72 or 48x60, 5/8 or 1/2 inch thickness."
My question is: What does: "flat die boards" mean & are they made for certain things, or can they be used for just about anything?
I've heard of Rock Maple.. Is hard maple similar & is it hard to cut?
I'm not sure what i'll make out of it, but for the price, it's hard to turn down.
I might do cabinets & shelves, tables / workbench tops, etc. I was always thinking about building a storage / mower shed, would it work for that too?
Also, is plywood very sensitive to storage conditions? The only place I have to store it right now would be a rented mini-warehouse & it can get damp in there in spring due to condensation off the floor.
Does it need to be stored flat, or can it be upright against a wall?
(I'm more metalworker than woodworker, so I don't know all the wood terms) Thanks for any input.
