Harley Davidson Tool box question

So I am new to tool boxes and snap on tools. I just picked up this Harley Davidson addition tool box (top and bottom) that I was told was a snap on. After taking it home, I tried to look up the part numbers on the snap on site but could not find them. The model number on the boxes are 06228 and 02252. The boxes do not have the snap on logo on them either. The boxes look like they are quality built and very have but I'm starting to wonder if they are really made by snap on.

So was I totally stupid on this purchase? I guess I should have done more research.

Can anyone help with this?

Harley Davidson has pimped their name out so much it's hard to tell. Although the side stickers bear some resemblance thats as far as she goes for me. If I went to look at that box it would have to be cheap. I see nothing else that suggest that it's a Snap-On. There is currently another company building H-D branded toolboxes. All the H-D editions I've seen come from Snap-On have Snap-On clearly on them. Me thinks you go hosed. I'm not an expert on this paticular box but maybe the experts will chime in. I'm curious

How many boxes are USA made? The only other possible manufacturer would be Waterloo no?

Well, I wouldn't go this far. It depends how much you paid. Unless I missed it, you didn't give an amount. I would look at the fact that you got what appears to be a quality USA-made box. Not many boxes are US produced. If you paid a fair price, I think you did ok. If you paid Snap-On prices, then maybe not such a great deal.

But, snap-on does make some HD tools. The HD wrenches and sockets you always see on eBay are made by Williams, a division of Snap-On.

I think that he got hosed if he was told it was Snap-On. Now depending on the amount would go as to how bad it was or wasn't. Then again I'm not 100% it isn't Snap-On so what I think and what I know often are complete opposite. As far as the stickers go well......... it wouldn't be the first time something was fake. Not saying that it is but as someone who taken a few phoney US 100 dollar bills I know it's possible.

I forgot to mention that I paid $500 for the box. I had to do a lot of negotiating to get that price down, he wanted $1000 to start (clever sales tactic?, I don't know). I was in need of a tool box and was looking at the Kobalts at Lowes before I ran into this box.

I looked at again today and it is certainly better quality than my Craftsman cheapo box. It weighs a ton and seems to be built really well. All the drawers are ball bearing and slide in and out easily even with some heavy tools in them.

So while I think it is a snap on (in which I got a great deal) and if it isn't (then the deal was not all that great). I guess if I ever need a box again, I should do more research rather than get hypnotized by the chance to on a snap on box. The only thing that keeps me wondering is the lack of a snap on emblem on the box like I have seen other HD boxes have. I tried looking for other HD boxes and the ones I have found are all made by SO. I'd still like to find out more information about this, so keep it coming.

The part number on the warning sticker shows to go to a blue point. I don't know much about boxes, but that is what a google search showed. Actually came back to GJ.

I did find an old for sale listing out of the northeast some where that said

Harley Davidson Special Edition 28" tool cab with part number 06228 for the cabinet, but didn't say what brand.

It has the old style handle, with an elbow in the middle and a collar that automatically snaps into place to hold the top open.

So that things that are throwing me off is the snap on warning sticker but on the back there is not a standard snap on "K" box number.

It does look close to the blue point series boxes.

I ran the part number of one of the stickers and it does not exist. that looks like task force to me.
you can peel any of the snap on stickers off and put them on any box.
I would have to see it in person.
does not look right at all.

It has a tiny tray at the bottom of the top chest that looks like it is used for storing pins and notepads. It really not good for storing much else

As long as you didn't pay much and certainly not used Snap On Prices, it looks like a half decent niche labeled tool box for your garage. Will look great, cleaned up, next to some motorcycles :beer:

If you decide to pick up an actual high end box down the road, it'll make a great misc. storage system. :thumbup:

I believe the Harley Davidson hand tools were made by Williams; I wonder if that would be a trail to look into? Maybe if you could find some Williams catalogs of that era and look @ their toolboxes and see if they looked similar? I know my Bluepoint/KiQ series toolbox looks like the Williams/Bluepoint line.... but mine is made in Canada!

The HD boxes ive seen by snap on were KRL single banks and had decals that were fancy, Though that bottom resembles a KRA 2007 the way the side panels look it could be just a rip off as my kra didnt have the indents.

Harley jokes are not cool. I just got in trouble on another thread for joking!!!! Just playin... Now that I see the handles and that the lid is on hinges and not struts I think I may be wrong on the Blue Point thing. Hey, all that matters is that it is worth $500.00 to you. Enjoy it.

that box doesn't really resemble the KRA series nor the KRB series. appears to be in a league of its own.

the drawers might be the same as a KRA series snap on but the cabinets definitely do not resemble snap on in my opinion. the stickers on the back of the box do however show that it is most likely a snap on box.

kinda like the case and new holland toolboxes. the kiq series was even more similar to the KRA and KRB series

I want to say 10 years ago, sears sold those along with basic tool sets. I don't remember if it said snap on on the the tool packages, but at the time I was pretty sure it was snap on. Could have been willams, as I was not really aware of modern willams at the time. If snap on made the box, it was about as low end as it gets. I think willams sources some boxes from international, but that would be Canada then wouldn't it.

ive seen these hd boxes on display at a local dealership, along with SO/harley aniversary editions.
they dont compare to SO quality.
these boxes were being sold at harley dealers, along with harley "branded" tool sets a few years ago.

SO / harley boxes were indeed "fancy", all the ones ive seen were aniversary editions, starting with the 90th, and every 5 years after that.
i have no idea if they are still doing them or not.

a few years ago matco had a screaming eagle set also, seems like it was a double bank top and bottom.
