Everyone, thanks for all of your input. After doing a bunch of research it is still not absolutely clear of the maker of the box. My gut feeling tells me this was made by SO for HD and most likely sold at HD dealerships, but not an official SO box with the SO labels and K model numbers so it does not have the same quality as an SO box. That being said the quality of the box is much better than my cheapo model craftsman so I am not disappointed there.

I think what disappoints me the most is that I should have known better and did more research before I handed over my hard earned money. So at the end of the day, I may have paid more than I should have, but you live and learn. If there is a next time that I need to buy a box, I will definitly do more research, and ask more questions before investing.

Thanks again and if someone has a definite answer about this box I'd like to hear it.

I wouldn't worry too much about that. It was worth $500 to you when you bought it, regardless of manufacturer, and you say it's a well built box. If you were going to flip it, that would be a different story, but I'm sure you'll get your money's worth of use out of the box in years to come.

If I do sell it, I will make sure to tell the person everything I know about it and not advertise it as a real snap on box. A few hundred dollars is not worth feeling like a crook.

My plan is to keep this box until it breaks on me. I am not a professional mechanic so it should last a very long time.

I have no doubt it will last a long time. My main box is an el cheapo friction slide Craftsman...I've had it for 10 years and it hasn't broken yet. I can tell from the pics that your new box is better built than mine, so it should serve you well for many, many years to come.

I have some info for you on your box. I Work at the Algona plant where all the big Snap on boxes are made. That box was made in the Algona plant sometime in the 80's. Apparently for a short time in the 80's ( before my time) we made some boxes here for some larger distributor ( one guy I talked to thought lowes) until corporate decided this lessens the appeal of our boxes. So your box was made by snap on, but is not a snap on. And definitely not a Harley box. Hope this clears it up for you.

p.s. THey do look like they are built pretty well. We have one in our shop.

Yeah I'll see if I can snap a pic of it tomorrow. Our top box is a little different, Our lid isn't as deep and we have two little drawers on bottom dress plate ( above the nearly worthless drawer). It really threw me off at first yesterday when i was asking about it (never really paid much attention to it before) because it has the drawer fronts like our really old boxes, but it looks different form the other old boxes I've seen around.

dorksterr, yeah, I'm not sure that is a real Harley-Davidson toolbox.

Here is mine, visible just behind the kick starter. :)

Snapon, thanks for the pictures. Would you happen to know if I can still order parts for this toolbox? I wanted to get new chrome handles things, not sure what they are called. The ones that came with it were beat up. Thanks.

I think I found your box's twin. Glad to have found this string and posts as I was trying to determine if box on craigs list was snap on.

label to box on inland empire craigs list: Tool Box - Snapon Built Harley Davidson Top Box & Roll Cabinet - $1000 (Riverside)
