Kirk I'm going to see if I can burn a hole through a rock! I need a fountain!
I'm going to put a small piece of fence wire across the middle of the arbor to help hold the smaller vines up.

I have been working on my electric gate opener. My gates open out due to a hill inside the fence, (first issue) and the fence opening flairs out wider at the road, (second issue) so the standard mounting hardware wont work.
20230314_124449.jpg
I set up lines on my welding bench to mimic the fence and gate.
20230314_133211.jpg
Got a piece of cardboard and made a shape, you got to start somewhere!
20230314_184026.jpg
The trick it to have the arc be equal length on both ends, but I'm not able to use the same axis that the gate travels.
20230314_184042.jpg
So this cardboard template is attempt number four, it was so much easier when I had a cad program to do the layout. Now I use cad but its cardboard aided design! The empty hole travels the arc landing at 9" open and closed so tomorrow I will cut some steel.

Old school CAD is a time honored tradition. I used it recently to prototype the TV speaker horns. No sense wasting expensive filament, or steel, when there's tons of leftover Crapazon boxes to CAD with.

I take it you're going to use a linaer actuator. What brand are you planning on using/where you getting them? And I second Kay's request for a video.

Its mighty mule, I picked it up at tractor supply over a year ago. This one has been a head scratcher, I'm thinking that I may need to reverse my gates, this will put the bracing in a better spot to attach the actuator and I'm still not sure that I'm going to motorize both gates. Still scratching my head!

I'm looking for a rock to blow a hole in, then I'll get Dalton to help video me burning me up!

I'm going to Athens Tn. Today, I have to deliver a table and chairs to Pat's Daughter, she runs a bakery/resturant and they have clam chowder today so I gotta go!

Kayla got it wrong!
It wasnt Clam chowder, it was corn chowder, but it was in a bread bowl, and a southwest wrap with avocado buttermilk ranch sauce on the side.
So good, we dropped off the table and chairs at Trisha's place, then Pat took me to the Dairy Barn for a turtle hurricane, there version of a blizzard.
Didnt make it to my shop today, maybe tomorrow!

Didnt get lunch today, me and Dude, the bil, went to Trenton Ga. There was this add on marketplace.
Screenshot_20230316-221522_Facebook.jpg
They were 79.95 at HD so I bought enough to do the cabin walls and floor , I also got enough R30 to do the cieling.
20230316_141202.jpg
They had this shower stall for 299.00 but I want to check another supplier first.
I found a wrench on the road on the way back.

The insulation was a big score, it was less than half priced, I do pretty good with marketplace, usually!
It was actually a box of tools and garbage scattered at an intersection, Dude got most of it, he needs tools, so I dont have to do his work lol. I claimed the box also, I want to put it on the front of my car trailer later.

Eventually I'm going to get time to finish my gas pumps, and ultimately the front of the shop, it will be a Sinclair station, so that's when the tailgate will get painted to match the theme.

It's raining and gloomy, Im still trying to talk myself into moving, the other me is winning!

Ahhh Sinclair……

Have you ever read the history of the company ?

I did, and also spoke to a lady called Britney at their head office years ago, to get permission to use their logos on a van I planned on doing in the Sinclair colours.

No, my choice was pure happenstance, I always knew I was going to do a station, really thought it would be an Esso theme as my Uncle drove for them for 35 years, or maybe a Gulf, since a good family friend owned one for many years.
But after looking at my place all of the colors are already Sinclair! Easy choice.

It's not real clear in this shot but the roof metal on everything is Sinclair green and with the white trim it was a natural choice. I have already purchased some of the graphics.

Mack, one of my graphics is Dino with an S&H book in his hand.
I used to live about 20 miles from Sperry&Hutchinson world headquarters when I was a kid.

Bob, I may be mistaken then I thought it was there building off 294 in Chicago that was headquarters?
Did you ever visit the IBM facility in Aurora Illinois?
Jim, I believe there were a lot of Sperry&Hutchinson buildings. Their original building in Manhattan was on lower 5th Avenue. The one I worked out of was finished in 1964, the same year I started at IBM. One of the S&H warehouses was in Georgia and another in Ohio. The one in Cincinnati was finished in November 1960.

The building is still standing but is home to Ferguson Plumbing Supply now. Pretty sure I drove past that building several times on the way to our daughter's house when she lived there (she worked for GE Aviation).

I think the closest I got to Aurora was a recruiting trip to the University of Chicago for IBM's Personal Computer Division. I visited a fair number of IBM facilities but they were mostly development laboratories attached to manufacturing facilities.

I didnt do much today, had to go see the Doc and get my stitches out.
20230320_221447.jpg
He showed me pics of his work. Said he hoped to not see me back in his office.
On the way home there was a bad wreck.
20230320_102629.jpg
They had to airlift a driver, he hit a truck that was stopped on the highway.
I went home and didnt do anything productive.

Got back to the shop today, still not feeling well. I need to set up the plas and cut out the brackets for the gate, but cant seem to get interested in it.
20230321_121958.jpg
I picked up these from Donnies rental house, he tossed them in the dumpster, I saw a solution to a problem.
20230321_122010.jpg
Of course they wouldnt just bolt to the wall, I had to cut them apart and I welded them to a couple of pieces of 1" angle, this let me space the height out another inch and set the baskets out enough to set two cans deep.
20230321_145516.jpg
Now there only in two places.
There is a tote full in the other shop.
20230321_145050.jpg
They used to sit all down the ledge and kinda looked bad.

Do you know what they were originally? I need to rethink my rattle cans, they're invading me.

Kirk I need to thin mine, I still have a tote full in the other shop. I have always hated them sitting on that ledge, very hard to clean with them there.

I cut them apart and spaced them farther apart, they were too short for cans, and I added 1" angle iron to the back to stand off the wall farther, that allowed for two cans to sit front to back.
20230322_151631.jpg

Chris It's in my welding shop so the grinding debris and other dirt pile up on shelfs and flat surfaces real quick (look at the dirt rings in the last pic) I'm just trying to keep things cleaner with wire racks and such. And besides, they were free! Bonus.

I too had some of the four rack Closetmaid. I passed them along to the neighbor. When I did a remodel I put a couple of these in and found them more useful as they adjust plus have an extra strap.

I worked on the gate closer today.
20230323_161517.jpg
I got the hole dug for the anchor post.
20230323_161458.jpg
This ground is hard, its half chert and lots of rock so I predrill all of my holes with this augers before I use hand tools.
20230323_151843.jpg
I cut out two pivot plates, drilled them and bolted them together, then I had to trim and reshape them to fit a bit better, I cut a 3" pipe about 36" long and welded a ¼" plate on top, this will be the anchor post.
I got busy and forgot to take pics, I'll catch them up tomorrow.
20230323_115720.jpg
A buddy called and had me a 30lb box of hickory smoked bacon, so I went and picked it up. Had to make a BLT to test taste it!

Lucky! I have to predrill all my holes with a skid steer mounted auger. We have lots of calechi veins. Oh coarse hit a massive ones in both the pool and the shop septic. They were snapping teeth off of excavators. Had to jackhammer a good bit of it.
