Drove to Vale N.Carolina up hwy 74 and back home through the Nantahala gourge today, 528 miles total. That gourge is where the hurricane Helena came through and killed so many.
It still looks bad in many places, and hwy 40 is still one lane in several places.
20250612_180043.jpg
And of course it had to rain, hard.
20250612_152554.jpg
It was a lot longer coming home that way, but the trailer brakes quit working and we couldn't fix them so we did not want to come back over the mountain through Murphy and Duck town, it's way too twisty of a road for that, especially with it raining! Over near Murphy is a piece of road called (the tail of the dragon), google that and you will understand!
But we made it home with a truck.
20250612_141603 (1).jpg
I delivered a set of amp research running boards to a Man 10 minutes from where We picked up the truck, and I left a trike with this young man, the guy that bought it could not get off work, so he picked it up later.
It was a long day, Jeff and I talked for 14 hours about everything, but it was a good day!
I thought you were also going to deliver that little red stepside to Uncle Willey on this trip?

😅🤣😂
If its like most of my " deliveries", I come home with more than I left with!
We were looking! We saw about four 55 chevies but not much else.
Looks like he's doing well. And I can understand not wanting to run the "Tail" pulling an empty trailer, let alone one with a load on it. I can't wait to take the Buell on it.

Running it was SO MUCH FUN!!!
I ran it on my Road King, it was fun but 95hp, 13.5 to 1 compression, and a 71 mm Mikuni carburetor didn't like the altitude, I shut it off once to take a rest, it didn't want to start, I had to push it down hill and drop it in gear, took about 500 ft. to get it going. Never shut it off for the rest of the ride. When I got to Murphy, We stopped to fuel, I had pumped a half quart of oil out of the breather.
Still was fun!
Running the Dragon in my S2000 is on my list.
You won't regret it. There is some much to do on either end of the run. Look for the tree of shame!
The first time, I stumbled upon "The Tail" by accident driving my 1984 Grand Wagoneer. It was quite a workout! A lot more fun in my Mustang.

Lou
That a big heavy piece to ride the tail in.
Try it in a 90’s conversion van loaded to the ****.lol
You ain't right! Lol.
I did part of it in a 1990 Plymouth Voyager mini van.
I had a blast!
Wife, her sister and BIL, not so much.
Come on back and we'll do it on a couple of my trikes!

Everything was well in Vail NC.
I was so sore today from riding all day yesterday that I didn't do much today, I did unload the truck and put the trailer away, took Jeff's truck home. Pat and me drove to Athens, Trish wanted some 22 rat shot for her husband, (fathers day present)
They had a deal on it at white oak armory 50 rounds for 16.99 so I got her three boxes. We had to pick up a case of spicy chicken patties while we were there. Got a chocolate shake also. It's raining again.

Got the front of the bil's garage finished today! It was supposed to rain but luckily it held off.
20250615_164231.jpg
He only got one window but decided he wanted two, so we framed it in, and now we wait!
He bought the man door but no shims, I was tired and didn't want to cut shims so I called it quits for the day. We decided to go to Spooneys for supper, so went home and got a shower and went and had cat fish, grooper, fried green tomatoes, fried green beans, hush puppies, and slaw. They had a pot of white beans but I was so full I passed on them. While I was eating a man called about the kenworth cab I have for sale.

He wanted to come and take a look. So we met at 7:30, he looked it over and made me an offer, I quickly accepted! He will be here Tuesday to pick it up. So tomorrow I have to get it out of the woods and down to the driveway! I hope the rain holds off.

Then why is there one above the door?
Code? Habit? Rigidity for a hole that opens and closes and suffers impacts? Personally, I'd have put a header over the window, but that's my habit, after having done that for 60 years, due to the residential codes where I live. It's not a residence, just a barn. Barns n sheds have little or no requirements. Or different ones. Depends. I just build to the more stringent code set, so I don't slip by accidentally mixing n matching rules.

Bugnut, fortunately No, or I would be ordering from there daily!
They are one of the best kept secrets in Cleveland, there located on the wrong side of town so most don't venture there, they have BBQs in the parking lot a couple times a year and it's a total block party when they do.

Kay, your 100% correct, the door is slamming shut all of the time so its just good business, by the time we got to the windows he had decided he wanted two windows, he originally only wanted one and didn't buy enough 2x6 so we just didn't put one above the windows. Non load bearing wall.

Spent the day in my shop, working on the Mule.
20250618_150054.jpg
Got the rear shoes and cylinders installed.
20250618_141059.jpg
I had to pull the other axle, so I made this loop to get er done!
20250618_141148.jpg
Got it out and to no suprise to me they sent the wrong bearings and seals again!
20250618_150054.jpg
Put the new park brake cables on.
20250618_150059.jpg
Put the park brake handle back together, it all looks good.
20250618_152346.jpg
There is a bracket missing for the shift cable. I did some research and found some pictures, so I'll try to fab one tomorrow.

Simple design, shouldn't be a problem to make.
I decided to go to town and I found the bearings at Napa and I found the seals at applied industrial, I went ahead and upgraded to SKF bearings, I don't want to have to go back into this axle ever again!

Thursday, I got a text that the new chairs would be delivered to the lodge.......... no other information.
20250619_150346.jpg
So Pat and me went to the lodge and moved the old pews out.
20250619_144921.jpg
Hefe went with us, he had to ride!
20250619_153751.jpg
Pat decided the floor needed to be mopped.
20250620_120953.jpg
The delivery showed up at 11:00 this morning.
20250620_120947.jpg
Somebody forgot to tell us that some assembly was required!
20250620_143702.jpg
20250620_143646.jpg
60 chairs later, it's done.
I posted the church pews on FB and a Man from Chatsworth lodge in Georgia called and wanted to come look at them. They will be at the lodge Saturday morning at 9:00 to take them to there lodge. Life goes on!

20250622_172758.jpg
I decided that I was going to put the windows in the cabin!
20240408_113237.jpg
It only had this 20x36 inch window in what will be the living room.
The new windows are each 36x36 inches. It got really hot and I was getting a little light headed so I quit for the day.
We did get them installed before we quit! But no pics til tomorrow!

Hey Strouty, how have you been.
It was 97° today, they say Wednesday will feel like 104°, and Thursday 109°,

I took Pat to Tunnel Hill Georgia today to Brown's produce and bought her a bushel of beets, and two very large heads of cabbage. She wants to do some canning! I came home and took a nap before I went to the lodge.
That reminds me I need to check the kraut I made a couple of weeks ago, I have it hid in the potato bin.
If it dosnt get to hot tomorrow I'll get that other window installed.

Well! We'll just start with the beets, Pat got 14 quarts this run! I had to sample them a few times today, they are delicious!
I finally got a day to work on the cabin.
20250624_104328.jpg
I got lucky in that the studs were at the correct spacing for the bedroom window. I did have to widen the opening to the next stud, and I did install a proper header, but still way easier than the other two.
20250624_172824.jpg
You can see the shadow line of the old window, I'll add trim later, Im still not sure if I will paint or stain the trim, the cabin will be stained!
20250624_172851.jpg
The living room windows.
20250624_145534.jpg
Then I started on the decorative truss!
20250624_172843.jpg
It is proving to be very tedious, I was going to set the crossbar directly onto the 4x4 posts but there was not enough head clearance, so it got moved up and I'll figure out the details as I go, as always!
20250624_173118.jpg
The bil stopped in, someone gave him a set of saw horses, made from 4" C channel, so he knew where to bring them. He dose good, sometimes!
I have to be downtown Chattanooga at 8:00 in the morning, I have to see Dr Ballard about scheduling my third round of knee surgery, they have thrown a rod again and need to be rebuilt, again! Not fun.

Thanks guys, Doc told me today he has about seven people that keep coming back, he placed his hand on my knee to listened to it, pop, he actually backed away and said Geeze Louise, he look startled and ask how bad did that hurt, I said give me a minute to recover. It was epic! This guy has done thousands of knees and hips. Im his (number one) the pop put me on top! Lol. Anyway they are setting up a time around the car shows! We're going to do both at the same time again.

Prospector, Im going to just keep going, get it all built and cut the trim and tack it in place, then stain the siding, along the way it will become clear what to do. I would like to just stain it all, but half of the front door frame is painted and Im not stripping all of that molding! I was having trouble finding stain grade rough sawn stock that I could afford to buy, but Pat found that at a great price. So I may paint the window and door trim and stain the truss, and building trim. Don't ever worry about suggesting something, I have learned a long time ago that fresh eyes are a great help!
It was hot here today the heat index hit 107, so I didn't work today, we went to Sam's club after the Dr. Appointment, took some groceries to a family, and had some visitors! At 7:30 I went out and mowed. It was still hot, it's 9:22 and still 85 degrees out there!

Jim, you in for tkr on both at the same time? WOW, that takes some rehab effort if so.

On a separate note, parts are back from powder coat. Everything on the list is bought. The grandchild is arriving soon and the trike will shortly be underway! Build thread to be kicked off soon!

Stay well....

When I had them replaced in 2018, I did both at the same time and this was about three months after they fused four vertebrae in my neck, that was very tough to get through!
I had the scar revision surgery, I think they call it (getting scoped) now, in 2023, I did them one at a time and was in the shop the next day, I may regret it but Im going for both at the same time. It may put me down for a couple of days but it will be better, I hope!

Bugnut, make sure you post a link to your build here so none of us miss it.
We have 75 frames cut and ready to be boxed and some will be welded. Were going to start after the fourth holiday is over.
It's rolling thunder here this morning, my plan is to set up my new sprayer tank and spray weeds, but mother nature may change that. Then it's back to the cabin, it wasn't supposed to rain til Sunday!

It's just been too hot to do anything outside! I feel like such a wussy not out there doing something but I was soaked just walking to the shop! The power went out at 5:30 and stayed off until 11:30, Jeff said there was a tree on the lines behind his house. The utility trucks sat in front of my house for about an hour. It's nice to have a generac, all I had to do was reset the router and relax! Sometimes I win one.

Kirk,
It's hovering around the mid 90s and is supposed to stay that way for the next seven days. Ill just work in short spells until I get the truss finished. It's not going anywhere, but I just want the scaffolding gone, it's been out there all winter, it's time.

Jeff and I went to Alabama today, since the last power outage lasted 9 hours, he has decided he needed a generator for there (air bnb). Can you believe, some customers request a full refund when the power goes out!
20250629_183242.jpg
So Rebecca found this 20k generac with a transfer switch for 3,000 dollars, it has 37 hours on it. The man who had it is a dealer/service tech., he said his customer wanted a new unit with a warranty! So we went and got it. We talked to the guy a lot longer than we should have but he was cool. We got around to talking about trikes and he totally flipped over them. So we're making a trade, the next low mileage 20K generac and switch he gets were going to trade for a trike! That way I get a 20K and I sell my 11K. Sounds like a great trade to me!
Had to attend a birthday party for the bil's girlfriend, we were supposed to be there at 2:00, Jeff and me made it at 3:00, it was time for a hotdog 🌭.
