Re: Building my dream shop

All three doors open!!! All my junk would fall out, lol
When it warms up in a few weeks I am going to finish the front with a porch over the center section and finish the siding, I'll get a couple open shots. Thanks for reading about my shop

Thanks Nuttsgt
I thought it was time to freshen up some things.
It has been raining a lot here we have been joking about the cows needing floaties to get around the pasture.976858bdcd0c688cd3a083e7eedd66f7.jpg
It's hard to tell from the picture but the house is about 15 feet above the road so it shouldn't ever get water. bee023130f8acde5a06e96cc90155dc3.jpg359872c2042fd8967b0937fd818ad290.jpg

The new thread title caught my attention, a fun read!
I too need to part with about 6 cars to make life easier. Not real easy to do, between my reluctance to part with them, and tire kickers and no shows...
I did sell one about three years ago!:)

Thanks for stopping in.
I did manage to sell a few of them, The corvettes were bought by a man that plans to give one to his wife for a surprise birthday present. I thought that was cool.
Now I have a 2013 Tahoe to get rid of and a 69 pontiac then I will be in good shape.

I finally wired in an on/off switch for the air compressor. I have been using the braker as an on/off switch and that isn't a good thing to do so I purchased a 220v 30amp switch and a box to match the existing boxes and got to it, I left several feet of extra wire in the attic when I first wired it in knowing it was going to change so it was just a matter of disconnecting it from the breaker and giving the wire a pull. I mounted the new switch in the fab stall and passed the wires through the conduit to it. Now I can control the compressor from the fabrication stall.bee426ad54d528e04432d2cdfcb2c19d.jpg184b2337c0a4dbd5a9b85f1a5b3c6b0d.jpgef377374169e9efe408c258e4e62e297.jpgfdbd69964f3efbe7aad73dd898c004c9.jpg

Been reading this from early-on, congratulations on your progress. Having the wife to work alongside you is a definite plus. I envy you the room.

Good thing the C3's are gone to another home. They deserve to be refurbished. Once had a '78 C3 25th anniversary year in the family, but not the two-tone silver one. This one was a 350, white/biscuit leather interior, a pretty car, a couple years old, sold quickly when someone offered 50% more than it was bought-for. Lotta people don't like the C3, but in 1968 it was a spaceship.

The care you're showing for doing the wiring and lines, and drainage, should make things much-easier for you. Prudent planning and building allows you to use the property well, and to deal with things like wet springs.

We bought a used bed frame and it had a bunch of chips and scratches in the finish. I went over it today and repaired what I could. I sprayed some ruddy brown and some gloss black together and dipped an acid brush in it and worked the paint into the scratches and feathered them out. It came out pretty good. I'll post a pic when I get it installed.738d3aba1bb6c7a4e43729eba61b35b7.jpg09bfb4c89338ef01f292350f1d552afe.jpgfd0f923d60d4178bbbc1983cfcea7284.jpg5ba6b15bcc64675edb8aaf2d3cfe9160.jpg76ae0c0e4f89df87079d76b2118831c7.jpg6c2607005ec58a722ba89103558610f6.jpg826554cd587ba285a90defd76b622fc5.jpg

Picked up some cabinets at HD and found a gallon of gloss black at lowes for 9 bucks. I need more storage for the tool sets that are in plastic boxes. 4df804055f594c9919eff0ca10ba891c.jpg45ff9fc03fc3c7a6c5e9f5b704aefdf0.jpg

Re: Building my dream shop

I got my stool back from powder coat today, Dalton sprayed the arms silver to match the bench drawer pulls. It was a found stool and was brush painted green, after blasting it they found the Lyon Metal stamp on it, I took the back off of a stool I use for a bike stand and added it. They take good care of me over there.

It's a nice chair, I had knee replacement and its taller than a regular chair so easier to get up. When my wife finds out it is missing from the basement it may get ugly!

JIM: it looks like you've already had a nice garage thread and I'm glad you mentioned it. I just started reading it, but like where it's starting cause my old 1950's home is a cement block home and i'm learning how to do masonary so maybe i'll build my woodshop with block instead of wood.

thanks for sharing your skills and adventures and i'm here to join you and learn and help if I can.

BTW your shop/garage looks great from the first few pics i've seen and congrats on building it yourself and maybe with your bride's support and her help too.

It's always a pleasure to chat with you.
I had a contractor lay the block for the shop for time sake but I do dabble a little and find brick laying relaxing or maybe peaceful is a better term. I have big plans for the shop but I still have a couple of items to handle, there is a car and some equipment stored in the first bay that needs to go away so I can get my storage area plan started. Then life will be good. Thanks for stopping in.

A garden trailer

Ok so I got sidetracked again today.
I know I should be working on a truck but the tractor was broke so I have to fix it to get the truck in the right stall. The tractor had some wait time so this is where I get sidetracked.
I have this motercycle trailer stored in the shop up on the top shelf the cargo box was thrown out years ago.
I got it down and took it to the fab shop and started cutting.
So I cut the rear crossmember out and made a couple of angle brackets, drilled the rebound bolt holes out to 3/8" and drilled a 3/8" hole in each bracket and bolt all the parts together.
Now I cut the crossmember down and weld it to my brackets, I now have a rear crossmember that will pivot.
Then I went up on the hill and got a matching pair of wheelbarrows and took them to the fab shop and disassembled them.
That's as far as I got today, more tomorrow.babaec8177ba9c0ef8336b2d1c385cf1.jpgc48d3783a9aef0f9ec890b93761b0b4f.jpg7a19c89882d8e26c627fe89fba5e67df.jpg82e28524245ec677ee3b12082e7072a6.jpg8526412cb1b223ad0a7cb1039fc16026.jpg0f161dc63e5838d883e2eb462196ff3f.jpga6aa3a68badc8ba92c1faf572cf3a19f.jpgc37355b37b82a46e6548f6cf9f74e861.jpg

Guess I should post a couple pics of the new truck. I am the third owner
It's a solid truck only a couple of small rust spots.
1970 Ford XLT Ranger
390 V8. C6 automatic. Power steering. Power brakes. And A/C that works.
I bought this to drive while I build the 64 Chevy C10 when it's done I will rebuild itd0db3ac8980666cd5f46b59cae2e4c28.jpg11fc4f1b777297b8e40e1f46792fbcf1.jpg57b7ab2a802f131ea2ea7b4c2d5b2939.jpgd2256fe7213b0e64342b1485024086fd.jpg6214257f679dd9a8fb401992a96130e8.jpgf5ea09a61a209d676fc20264f6f7a5f0.jpg

Jim, all I can say is WOW. I don't know much about pickups but the Ranger XLT was the fanciest model F100 available in 1970 and yours seems to be loaded.:thumbup:

I'm not a truck/pick-up guy, but I do love that era of pick-up trucks!
Nice DD you got yourself there, congrats! Hope to see some progress on the C10 soon :)

Welcome, thank you for stopping by. An old country boy has got to have a truck or two around to feel good about himself.
Jayman thanks. That drain about did me in that was some hot weather but it is so easy to mow now.
Ronin.
Thanks, I believe the Ranger will be redone in black with some dark red accents inside. I am looking for some parts and pieces to use on it now preparing for its turn. I like to have most of the bigger parts here before I start.
Terry
Great to see you here. Hope all is well with your new octopus. I thought I should probably use this thread instead of throwing stuff all over GJ. Got the tractor back up and am going to try and get the C10 moved tomorrow, that is going to be a big job, it's a little buried.

I hope everyone will check in and keep me busy. They just announced the first case of the virus in my town of Cleveland Tn. I am at high risk with my health history so the Doc said stay out of harm's way so I closed the front gates and dont intend to leave for a while. But enough about that stuff. Welcome and I hope you all find something to smile or even better laugh out loud about. Thanks, Jim

I found this thread after you posted about the Ford F100. That thread has quite a following too after a few days. Glad you are retired now Since you have time to take care of all the projects around your garage/shop/house.

Welcome, I will start doing more here as opposed to starting more separate threads. This will be easier to keep up with. The thing is you never know what I am going to work on, I have so much to do it's a good thing I am retired

Ok so I had to make a TP run today. I have a buddy that owns a maintenance supply company and he stocked up on things, So several family members ran out of tp and I went and got them some.
I took the GMC it hasn't been out in a while
I got the tractor back together and I hope it will last the summer. It rained most of the day so moving the C10 didn't happen maybe tomorrow.
I worked on the dump trailer some, I. Cut two wheelbarrows in half off center as to make it wider, both were beat up so there was a lot of tacking and hammering. I want to get this one done and out tomorrow

JIM: so is the TP thing just people buying extra so they can stay home for a week or two or more or do tell? nice method of buying TP and then helping those that need it. WELL DONE SIR!!

i've probably got 5 old wheelbarrows out there in the yard and I'd like to build a trailer some day so looking forward to see how you make fenders out of yours.

i'd love an old 40's or 50's pick up with a more modern late 60's or 70's frame and engine in it. or just a clean old pick up might work too.

take care

I should say that Resolute is one of the largest TP manufactures in the world and there plant is located in Charleston Tn in the old Bowater paper facility about 14 miles from me. My buddy buys stock from them. Every store around here is out of TP and there are literally millions of rolls there.
I get a 96 roll case for 40 bucks. I think that I have picked up about 8 cases this week and passed them out. People are literally posting fights in stores over TP here in town. If they only knew!!!
I cut two wheelbarrows in half off center to make it wider and started welding them back together, hope to finish it tomorrow.
Stay tuned the 64 Chevy C10 will be put on a 95 Tahoe 4x4 chassie.

I worked on the trailer for a little while today but got kind of bored so I started moving things and got the 64 out of the shop and put it in the fab shop. I cleaned some of the junk out of it and threw most of it away. I think I will shop vac it tomorrow.e6df6e08a492edc12609265c23268eca.jpgc4284d22d9b9b42063fa58afed0995dc.jpg8b52208f502c803ec4dab9f90f4f164b.jpgaa5e5f849c12ec02d64f660452475b57.jpg7f66060ec488c07290cea90d6de61b9e.jpg0593c40153c582f2d4a40e681092f001.jpg1105c2c8f7987edca326ce05ff20a3af.jpg

JIM: now that you've locked the gate and moved the old truck in your fab shop for repairs i'll be watching you thread even more closely so take lots of pics and post them when you have time for rookie body and car guys like me.

also I know you have respiratory issues so please make sure to wear your good masks and also eyes and ears protection while you are making that old truck your new ride.

cheers and take care.

I found a factory tach like that, that I was going to put in my 61 since swapped the dash to a 64 up. I flipped it around and damn, it’s a 6 banger tach which ain’t gonna work well with that bigblock I got sittin in the garage.

That's what I'm afraid of with this one. I have a 454 going in this one.
