Good to hear from you
Yes we are trying to get the garden in and get some grass growing in the yard. While we have the window of opportunity. Hoping to get back to the trucks soon.

Are you going to do the work on the 64??
I'm having trouble getting excited about working on cars again after finishing the Corvette. I have the 40 ford sedan delivery on my lift in the rear of my shop.

Yes my intention is to do it all. The interior may get outsourced, not sure yet.
I have a 95 tahoe that I intend to use for the frame it has a 3" shorter wheel base than the 64 but It appears to have enough room to move the springs and spring hangers back enough to correct it. I will take the 350 and computer out and put a carburated 454 back in and I'm hoping to use the stock Tahoe trans and running gear. I have had it for about 3 years waiting and gathering parts so when I get the spring planting done(garden and yard) I want to get started.
I just sold my Corvettes after knee replacement and neck fusion I couldn't get in or out of them so a young man has them now.
I do get tired of the same project after a while so I go so far then I will fill in with a pedal car or a tricycle to brake the monotony. I love my toys as much as the trucks.e3d67d8dffc5db04321c369d05c60bbc.jpg2d1866ab3ef32942b3a4516bfe9013b3.jpg2c6121467318c3fe9282009e38e3cb97.jpg

That last one is a homemade go cart, it is at least 60 years old. A friend of mine bought it out of an old barn he was picking and the owner said who built it and he remembers driving it when he was a kid. It is mostly wood even the frame rails are wood, it was powered by a 1930 maytag gasoline motor but someone took the motor before I got it. I am looking for a replacement for it.
Thanks for looking.

I understand I'm reading yours and Don Longs at the same time. I'm going to start putting the Honda in his shop and his new grease gun in yours.

Dons is epic!
I was up to speed. On his at one time but it's been a long time but I may have to go check it out for the grease gun!

JIM: i'm finding out more and more just how handy a guy you are. RED GREEN would be handing out an award i'm positive.

all kidding aside a 1964 truck body on a 95 Tahoe frame with a 454 sounds like a movie in the making so i'll pop up some popcorn (yep hoping to use less butter and salt) and i'm here to watch and learn and admire.

the pedal car is nothing if not a museum type piece so wanna watch that too along with all the other stuff you are doing.

my bride and I have bought sun gold (sun sweet is another name) of yellow cherry tomatoes that are amazing if you have room for a couple plants. she plants marigolds below them and i've taught her to keep the big spiders in place in the branches to keep the bugs off and i bet 3 plants give us 1000 tomatoes each growing season. what do you grow in your garden?

you can also come over to the GET HEALTHY thread cause more of us need to grow our own food.

keep on keeping on and hope no tornadoes or other bad stuff hits your area cause this world is crazy enough currently.

I'm trying to get the garden ready to plant but that old monster is rearing its head you know, got to get this done to do that and then this thing. Lol.
I had to get some drain lines in under my granddaughters trailer so that had to be done because the access to it is to drive the backhoe through the garden now that is done I can start planting as soon as it dries up a bit I think we got 6" of rain Sunday night. Yearly total of rain is 52.5" we have had over 46" already this year.
I started about 5 varieties of squash, 6 varieties of peppers ranging from cayenne to bell, all of the regular stuff. I started 12 beefsteak tomato plants from seed and I'm hoping they do well as I will harvest seed from them for next year. Also I have several other tomato varieties and two different cucumbers that were started from seed. I will need to map it out as I plant and update my list.
All of this is taking away from my qst quality shop time (1/2 cup) but I will get back there to work on my truck soon I hope.

Don I like those raised beds my old back would really like that.

I'm hoping to get started on this one friday we got up this morning and there was frost on the trucks, the 10 day forecast says we are good so I'm going to shoot the dice and plant. I bought her five trees today plus a bunch of herbs that I'll need to build a raised box for. It makes her happy and she will work it and she loves to can what she grows so it will be good. We got the backhoe mounted on a new tractor last week so I have something to plant trees with now, the old tractor has a crack in the trans case and leaks hyd oil really bad.

I got some more done in the garden today.
We planted 3/4s of it, got some of the fence up, finished the hose reel. It is supposed to rain tonight. I'm hoping not to much as I need to finish the fence before the critters eat my veggies. Also planted two dogwood trees in the front yard.1b1effed6c8d151a575bf975997c6fb3.jpgd522eb73eb4c6c47935d82814e63f6de.jpgf48fd3e5184c4dea5971c60ee20c7c30.jpgdd6b3f915a83978bb96550e40818e777.jpgee76bbc7ffbf145ff7ff84d6d821d802.jpg

It rained very hard last night I cant find an official amount but it had to be around 3" because of the size of the puddles.
Too wet to work in the garden and it is going to rain tomorrow so no garden for a few days.
Barbequed some chicken, asparagus, and zucchini made a couple whiskey and cokes and just took it easy today.996ce2115334c2f8510e641942bd2d09.jpg

Jim: I hope all that rain didn't ruin all that hard work you did to prep and seed and plant your garden. still ok out there?

i like your wheel hose holder and i was planning on doing something similar with an old trailer rim and i've been looking for some nice old hubs for mine too. I would have thought you would have attached the wheel with a bolt going thru the 4x4 and a lug hole instead of a screw, but it looks like yours is working.

it's great to see food pics on threads especially ones that look tasty like yours does.

have a great weekend!!

I did loose some grass seed, it rained very hard last sunday and it's about to start raining again today so I'll hold up on replanting til I get a good window of oppertunity.
Those two little screws have held up for 40 years no sence messing with a sure thing. That wheel was my old air hose reel in my old shop in Chicago.
My back porch is looking like a green house with all the plants out there but we are getting them out a bit at a time. Pat sunk to her ankles in the garden yesterday while we were putting out some tomatoes.
I'll get pictures added later.

I got started on the door in the container today, I pulled the end wall out and took it to the shop where I cut the center of the panel out. I have some 1" angle iron that I will make a door frame with and put the cutout back into the frame. We planted some more trees. I also put out some Blackberry bushes they will be used for jelly and wine making. I made a gallon of dandelion wine last month and it came out great. Hoping the rain will let up and this place will dry out a bit so I can finish the garden.df7da9c527f56f5128fc0ee8b81ab236.jpgc17712b9021549c9be7a64d95d268167.jpgf755eed95c890d74b999b75bbb4d48c0.jpgf73f1b8c59f31574635a11e3cd6e33c7.jpgf78b2e6ad88a8d818884292c7ef83d4b.jpgc59c60bdde1db818ebf4fcdee672796a.jpg20bc59ba82132fc28182accad143113b.jpg56ee84bec55c7b1ae0dfbbea83ab3c5d.jpgd22da3e558b78193998c70dc9e5d7c8d.jpg

I checked the garden this morning and still too wet so we are going to wait until tomorrow to finish planting so I went to the shop. I was looking for some gutter nails for my bil he needs to go fix the gutter at the lodge before it falls off and I found an old oiler in a box with the nails and I thought I would clean it up for a warm up exercise. Then I got to work on the door for the new garden shed and got it finished.a7386d6d168a1f224113934dc063d34f.jpgf2ffeeaa2745eaa5d27eefe5a701b352.jpg996de2c644ef29f5c73a8749661ef1a4.jpg158f992c5b4f3740ee499f5c9ec70b59.jpg3a3bd0a5390e3a78c271bfb466e85af8.jpg

Yep. The back porch still looks like a green house but I'm gaining on it. I ordered three more pink dogwood trees to go in the front fence row. That pic did look like a twisted roof, I'll back up and get a straight one.
Don
It is Beautifully green here, I am in the foothills of the appalachians in a valley between them about eight miles west of the Cherokee national forest, the Ocoee river runs down the mountain in a westerly direction to Parksville lake it is a beautiful place. This pic is at the main road in front of my place. I cant see the mountains from my house because of the trees.
The garden is about 36x36 ft. so far. After looking at your raised beds Pat and I are going to add one starting at the gate and run it along the outside of the fence.
Pat put an old fashioned snow ball bush in the tractor tire this year and is planning on some other foliage around the bottom. I just let her do whatever she wants she takes good care of me and things around here, you know what I mean!379507415d519a8ee85b6c7c4e9ce2fc.jpg

The garden is planted!!! It is done, except for finishings the fence and building the raised bed for all the herbs. It was too dark for pics but I'll get some tomorrow.
I made a bollard post to go at the front corner of my shop the upper driveway comes down right into the corner of it and there have been some close calls so I got it done this morning then I called the boys at the powder coat shop to come over and help me carry the door/wall for the garden shed back and install it. Then I gave them the bollard post to blast and coat for me. The round top on the post is an old accetaline tank cap I cut down and welded on.608d7ba14d00b2fad2fca73a924953cb.jpged8213d826ae5c1dc6a964c379d7a602.jpg4e8246e2f7179bfff6e10ea6050d9058.jpg3693ce005cdfbb5eb5816dd24292ae50.jpg807d55c7ae564b8eb062bdfd7fe5951e.jpg

JIM: looks like you are getting those HONEY DO'S done so you'll have time to work on the truck as things start growing and green up.

so the guys at the powder coating shop stop by and lend a hand AND pick up your project so you really don't need to leave your home? WOW I think I like the TENNESSEE WAY!!

carry on!

I had the boys help me put the front on the garden shed. I cut out a door and framed it with old 1" angel iron so it kind of blends in. I am going to put a wood floor over the thin metal one then all of the garden tools and supplies will live here. It is 16'2"x 7'3"x 6' high inside dimensions. It is completely lined with galvanized metal so it should be varmint proof.944d0627e83cae6c5991dbcd5988d87f.jpg0b85c19432b959bf2f1b8c3c3b1f84ae.jpgd648762a054e3e023828001cfa328546.jpg

HJ, your recent plantings look good, in a few years they will fill in nicely. Those hostas in your bed sure look healthy already. I like that large cactus you have in there too, what's the story on that?

I saw that cactus on a backroad in Birchwood Tn. I was helping my bil clean his garage and haul it to the dump on the return trip I asked him to stop. It was at an old house foundation growing near the road. I took my pocket knife and cut three small ears off brought them home and stuck them in the ground where they are now. They are starting to bloom now see the tiny blooms on top of the ears they make a beautiful flower.
The Hostas were thrown away, I pulled them out of a dumpster and divided them and planted, I will probably dig them up next year and divide them again, each one will make 4 plants.

JIM: you have a green thumb along with your other skills too? I also noticed that you have some yard art planted around the place too. pedal car, old small wheelbarrow and i'm guessing more to come?

I've got a backyard that has a ton of YARD ART so to speak, but at the moment there are no finished areas so maybe by end of summer that will look different here.

have a great weekend and happy to hear you found your piece of PARADISE in the world to finish your life at. that my friend is not easy to do and be happy which it sounds like you are.

I planted four more pink dogwood trees today. That's all no more I'm done.
I cant wait to see them start to grow and shape them up a little, should be pretty cool looking in a couple years. a35c07f4b80287055c75b7429cf4088d.jpgba8662d2a299eae7597dff429e8b65eb.jpg96ea756565c20a04ca0a99fab5e8375c.jpg

Hello friend.
Yes more art to come, I took three of the wheelbarrow handles and two of the little metal bumpers from the front of the wheelbarrows that I made my trailer from and made Pat a tripod to hang a basket of flowers from, she put it in the side garden with the two wooden wheelbarrows that I made for her. I will get a pic for you. I found a Jewell when I found her, she loves my art and really encourages me to make the next piece. There will be more.

HJ, interesting story on your cactus, it has really grown. I like your horseshoe welding projects. I am starting to weld and I might have to copy that horseshoe Xmas tree design if you don't mind. :bounce:
It doesn't leave needles all over the house and you don't have to go looking for it in lousy weather :lol_hitti

Lol it's all yours buddy. I take it as an honor when someone remakes one of my builds. I dont like to say when someone copies one of my designs because some of mine are copies of others designs.

I had a busy day today, Dalton stopped by today with a broken trampoline leg, we got it fixed.
The hood on my John Deere mower cracked right down the center then off to the right, I got to looking and its cracked all over so I got an idea of how to remedy the plastic hood problems. More to come tomorrow.bfe17a8b4e0600d095bcce3ffdf2ffbf.jpg729a0b6f1b1c43aad179460ac2a2635e.jpg5a416cb989b935c62e61b0a0a9671c7c.jpgd694f7b41ffe41bb1bdfba00d9e72f3f.jpg565fd80193cf5aca68319a5d7f8867c1.jpg
