Here is the tripod made from three old wheelbarrow handles, they are the leftovers from my dump trailer build.
The wheelbarrows flanking it were made from old deck lumber somebody threw in a dumpster and a pair of wheels that I bought at the worlds longest yard sale a couple of years agoe97cf727b16c375fd014f9ff5ef0c339.jpg2d58582035c457823935416ffd4ac83f.jpgfac53eac0d953ea53b379b561a121d83.jpg

Jim: loving the little areas you have and are creating around your property.

I also like the direction you are going with the new hat for your JD, but as Tim Allen would say you might need to put a V8 on that bad boy if you really want it to cut the grass.

hope you are enjoying your weekend.

I hate to throw out old stuff there is always something to make with the junk. Me a bil and a nephew were going to load my enclosed trailer with stuff we made and go to the flea market to sell this year but the C19 has halted that.
The mower makes me smile.
Drives
I have been slowly working to this end. I have been reluctant to do to much landscaping as We were still under construction some what, driving the backhoe and trencher around the yard and we dropped about 6 trees among other things. But most of that is done and now to put the cherry on top.
Scooterbum
That's pretty cool, my hood is from a 1958 Massey Ferguson TO35 that was left out in the weather most of its life so it died and I rescued the hood about 10 years ago. It is about 16 ga steel it's going to be lots heavier than the stock one.
Thanks for being here guys I really like to share ideas and talk about projects. I have only been off my property about 7 or 8 times since the lockdown and that was for parts and food not to socialize. I miss my cruise ins and car shows.

Ok now for a lawn mower update.
I split the hood in the front corners and cut 15 inches off of the back and pulled the back in about 5 inches then I cut the flanges off of the hood and the inspection cover ground it to fit and welded everything back together fdd78c6ae952fb0e0cbec62119b779f4.jpg

Jim: New JD metal hat is looking pretty good so far. thanks for taking the time to take and post pictures of the during process so some of us that maybe are learning or want to learn can see how the pros think and get stuff done.

i bet you'd love to have a Rotabin in your garage so store some of your odd size stuff or do you have boxes stacked and labeled someplace?

here's a picture of my big 5.5 foot wide rotabin so you'll know what you need and what to look for.

My warm up exercise this morning
My bil finally got his tree cut down next door so I grabbed this piece from himd8f3e218aa57ec1a0f1824f205d5bfdc.jpg

And now Drives favorite part, finish with BLO3c250648603b4a2f0d9285c6cce9df2b.jpg
The recess will keep the anvil from bouncing off of the stump and the BLO will help keep the wood from drying and splitting plus it looks good.74a3ed28db82d61e3b3414ab09bf7d24.jpg

That's Funny you are the first in all these years to ask about my Harley.
The last one was a 2003 Road king I bought new at Heritage Harley Davidson in Lisle Il. It had 2 miles on it when we took it apart and rebuilt it. It had 13.5 to 1 pistons, HTCC cnc ported heads, 258 lift cams, Jim's adjustable push rods, 70 mm mikuni carburetor, Crane HI4 electronic ignition. And a whole bunch of things that Little John did to it. It Dynoed at about 100 HP at the rear wheel.
I felt like EJ Potter when I dumped the clutch on it, I didn't know if it was going to stand straight up or turn sideways with me.
Definitely the best bike I ever owned.
Sadly I got old and had body parts fused and some replaced and I am not in any shape to ride anymore.
This is the only pic I have on my phone tonight when I go to the house I will get the laptop out and add a few now that someone asked. LOL, Jim8f2a45867a1d26cca5fbda2851742b18.jpg

Love the new lawnmower hood-in-progress and the anvil stand.

I only have a lowly chunk of railroad rail as a poor man's anvil but have been wanting to do something like that to make it handier to use.

Jim: I just assumed you owned one and I missed the post(s) about your Harley.

so you rebuilt your old Harley when it had TWO MILES on it?

I love my old Rotabins so in case you had a hand in building one of mine I thank you. i sold one of my big 5.5 foot wide ones, but I still own one and I've got 3 3 foot wide ones. they still haven't solved my FSD but they will help.

thanks for the Harley pics.

It's all good, I loved every one of my bikes, started riding when I was about 10 but the way people drive today it isn't safe out there if you are not quick and spry so when the big Guy said it's time to quit a winner I agreed. [emoji106]

Thanks, I'm starting to get things the way I want them. How are things down your way, last time we chatted the fires were real bad.

Hey Jim glad to see you have enjoyed life living with motorcycle's, I Too have enjoyed bikes most my life. Started riding at 7 and at 28 started working in a m/c shop. Worked in the m/c Ind. up to last year when I went back to auto parts. Have also been in a dirt bike club for over 25 years, made a lot of good friends trough bikes.
Enjoy Jim

Yes I have had a great run (pun intended) I have met people from all over the globe on a bike. A bike will bring down barriers quicker than any other media I know of.
The second pic above shows a man with his hand on his crotch, that is Indian Larry this pic was taken of him in Salsbury North Caroline the saturday before he died, we talked a lot that day, it rained all weekend so you couldn't get out too much but it was a good weekend. The last pic is Paul Cox and Little John Lewis Paul is famous for carving leather bike seats and Little John builds some of the most radical choppers on the road, the black and green choppers are fully functional and were rode from the hotel to the fairgrounds as pictured. Little John set up my last bike, god was it fast.
Thanks for stopping in.

Jim: pretty wise of you to give up something you love so much so you could maybe live a few more peaceful years.

my cousins used to win state championships riding their dirt bikes and they could ride on their back wheel for miles going pretty fast too. one of them a couple years younger than I am didn't make it past his 22nd birthday but he died in a car crash and the younger brother that is now about 60 quit riding years ago.

i'm sure I wouldn't be here if I had gone the 2 wheel route cause I never respected the roads that much when i had 4.

how's the new hood ornament coming along or are you on to a different project while ideas on how to finish it are still ongoing?

cheers

I had to work on a septic tank yesterday it was a ****** job **** had to be done. The worst part of it was the yard being so wet the tractor really tore things up at one point I was sliding sideways it really chewed things up but I have seed and a tiller to put it back. I need to get the rest of the garden fence up today before the storm comes in around 4 or 5 then maybe I can get back to the John Ferguson.

Took your tripod idea to the home council (Ann) and got approval to put one by our garden

Thanks for sharing

I got the rest of the garden fence done today Pat and Kayla helped or it may not have got done, been lifting too much lately and it's starting to get to me, goning to need to slow down for a day or two. It's going to rain later today so I mowed the grass and put out a 50 lb bag of grass seed on the thin spots12cabb9cc662111c19793dae3e88b512.jpg

The granddaughter is wanting to get started on her hobit house, so I went to look at what was going to need to happen to get it done. I knew I had some cracks to fix and am going to need to build a new door but as I approached I was dive bombed by a starling so this is what I found. I guess this project is on hold for a while. e15613a0f53ba4717ef10538f94b888e.jpg9ec04e0cc5cc724935d8a2d55454a327.jpgdae93bdeb50a542c6ebde9edc47f2ca9.jpg356fde981f89e6a1eb58f4fefd36e3ba.jpg163d4362b7a9f2632920e1cbcc185f20.jpg

Wow, is that nest basically hanging off a crack between two blocks in a flat wall? Bet the granddaughter is thrilled to see baby birdies growing up in the house!

Jim: nice find on the baby birds and nest and yep maybe letting them grow up a bit before you start that project might be for the best. just curious how structural that roof is if your granddaughter and her friends are planning on staying inside there?

looks like cement, but guessing maybe wood inside it or is it all steel and rebar holding it together?

as far as grass seed we need to put ours down with a lot of peat moss on it so the crows and birds don't eat it or professionally with hydroseed that is sprayed on. i've been thinking of going to the local golf courses and asking the greenskeepers for some sand/seed mix to put on holes I get from pulling weeds or the occasional mole(s). maybe you can let us know if your 2 year old grass seed does the job or if it was just laying out bird seed so to speak.

your place is looking pretty nice. once the rains seem to stop how do you water all that? i'm not surprised you are a bit sore. if you do have constant back pain you might try using if you know someone that has one or buying a new Teeter Up inversion table or an old Invertalign and just hang 5 minutes a day like i do. it sure beats popping a few handfuls of Advil every day.

cheers and have a great day!!!

I have four freeze proof faucets on the house one on each side and four freeze proof hydrants around the yard. As I ran the trenching around the place I would add PEX and a hydrant.
The hobit house has a steel reinforced concrete roof and was built back in the 60s we capped it last year with about three inches of new concrete and added steel wire fabric to it plus I added a treated 4x4 post inside just to be safe. We have had about 10 people sitting on top when we have a campfire I think it will hold up ok.
I'm curious to see if two year old seed will even sprout, I just dont know but I have already paid for it so throw it out and see! If they eat this I may check on a load of peat moss, I know the top soil here isn't an option I bought a trailer load to level with and it is not shredded fine and has a lot of clay so not good. Your place is really nice looking it takes a lot of time to get it to that point.
My wife has an inversion table I cant use one it causes more pain than it helps

I went to Chattanooga and picked up 188 landscape blocks this morning I need to get the planter bed behind the house done so Pat can get her herb garden planted the plants have been sitting on the table on the back porch for almost two weeks and she is worried that they will die. I think it's coming out good what do you all think. I put in about 60 of them today hoping I can get the rest tomorrow. c7dac6ef2fd18a2047a4c6f050326691.jpgd9fa1f62f0cea15dc9feefdd205f5114.jpg92c56fe408172a9797ba46ccbfbe35bc.jpgb7c5f31e8e31d82cb6face1513520759.jpg0451cd79e3e048e9a95329acd3f30c3a.jpg35632aaffadb4d60cde521fbf767d439.jpg

Got some more wall done yesterday, I'm going to try to get the dirt done today if I can move. Think we may have a bonfire tonight with the old log walls they are 6 years old should be a quick fire.
I had to go wash the pollen off of my truck someone said they liked my yellow truck. HJ, great job on installing those planter bed blocks. It's good looking, straight and plumb. :pimpflash Those are a big upgrade from the timbers. I have a similar project I will be starting soon.
