Yep- that’s exactly where mine broke. Tape lasted through a couple of mows but I’m back to driving around with a half of a hood. Guess mine is going to look like yours soon.

I see you got the color on the hood with that old spray gun. I have one like yours somewhere around here. I got tired of cleaning the big paint cup so I went with the Sata gun and disposable plastic cups (Much easier to clean just the gun)

Is that laquer spot putty I see on your hood??

This will be my next big project I'm sure it will be a fun one, I'm already gathering parts for it.

The finish line is near on the hood JIM and it looks great. Are you going to hot rod the truck?

No,This one is a fully loaded 1970 it already has a 390 big block C6 auto and A/C. There is one small rust hole in the pass floor. This one will be close to stock, any mods I do will be period correct on this one.
Now the next one will be custom.

It has rained all day so I have been cleaning the shop getting things ready.

Ok had a great day today my buddy Dalton came over and helped me install about 200 ft of new chain link fence, that gives me three sides. That are finished now I only need to finish the back and it will be done.
Then we put a tongue and grove plywood floor in the garden shed and painted it with some left over paint that I had.
Then he had to go so I mowed about an acre of yard then hooked up the box drag and regraded the driveway a d parking area. It was a busy day but it felt good to have some help and get something accomplished.

Thanks Kev, I'm looking through facebook trying to find some kind of siding to put on the outside of the shed. There is a guy that has 45 sheets of metal roofing 3' wide 24 ft. long asking 800 dollars I may hit him with a lowball and see what happens. My bil needs about 24 sheets for his garage roof. Dalton has agreed to help me on fridays while he is on four day weeks. I have quite a list to knock out so I'm very happy for the help.

now that that hood looks so good I bet you'll be taking the rest of your JD apart this winter and spiffing it up to. I watched that hood project all the way through and it was a pleasure watching a pro do his magic.

Pat and I worked on the garden shed today, we painted an old table we had in another shed and a sheet of plywood to make her a potting bench, we have a couple of wooden stools to paint and add to the bench. We hung a 16' 2x6 on the wall and I added some old galvanized hooks I had in a bucket to hang all of the hand tools on. The bil was throwing the four shelves out so I grabbed them and put them in the back. That puts this project at 90 dollars, I had to buy the 5/8" t&g flooring. I'm looking for some siding to put on the outside, I may drop some of these 60' pines out back and take them to a sawmill and put board and batten on it, still thinking on that for now

I put some more things in the shed today, all of the potting soil and sand that was on the back porch, some hand tools, some sprinklers. I have been looking for some used siding to put on it, I did some rough figures on new metal today a 6ft x 3ft panel is about 11.00 roughly 450.00 to put new metal on it, Oh yea Im going to put an addition on it while I'm at it more on the shed later. Pat and I were looking at the roof of the hobit house and decided to build a gazebo on it, it is 12'x 12' square and will need handrail on three sides anyway so four corner posts 7' instead of 37" and a 2"x 2"x 14ga. sq tube framework for a roof with thin gauge corrugated metal on the top, more on the gazebo later. Then I measured up the handrail for the front porch and back stairs. Then I measured the floor in my dump trailer and the side gussets and I will need two sheets of 10ga. To repair it.I got one heck of a steel order ordered today, it should be here in a couple of days then the fun starts.
The vinyl will be here tomorrow for the graphics for the mower hood, with a bit of luck I will get that knocked out in a day or two.
Pat and I cleaned the shop this afternoon and filled two 50 gallon trash cans. I painted about 20ft of block wall that never got finished last year. I made 13ft of yard tool hangers for my bil to organize his tools (he saw our garden shed). I took his power pruner apart and ordered parts to repair it where he got it hung up in a tree and bent the bar and chain. I put a ratchet sprinkler in the garden to make watering easier, it mounted on the 4x4 post in the garden and it dose cover the whole garden. That's about it for today.
One more thing, the cactus bloomed today.

Pat washed and detailed the Jeep today she said she was getting ready to ride. I spent the day sorting data wires and setting up some equipment, I'm installing another camera system in the shop, I'm hoping to finish it tomorrow. Got a call about my steel order and had to make a small change which actually works better for me.

Great job on the mower cover. My dad had one like yours. Like yours, his cracked also. He just removed it and mowed with it like that until someone gave him a whole nother mower and he used that lid.

I wandered aimlessly for quite a while as my retirement was forced on me. I always dreamed about being retired but it wasn't expected when it happened but now I got it. I did the same as you and started doing the maintenance then started throwing little projects in for fun. I have hired a man to help me do the heavy stuff so I can get the house finished and then I can concentrate on the shop. The cactus was found on the side of the road at an old house foundation, I cut off a piece with my pocket knife. It is getting ready to open a bunch of flowers.

That's funny, I was the shop supervisor and tried to keep the dumbassery to a minimum but there is always that one guy that you just cant get on board, that was my lifes mission to get all on board but now it's someone else's problem. I wouldn't change anything, now Its my time.

I have talked to so many people that had there hood just unexpectedly crack, I have seen several on marketplace for sale without a hood, it has to be a bad choice of material that JD used.
I would have just got another mower but all of my attachments were made to fit this one and I am having fun making it look like an old tractor anyway.
That shopping cart was hit buy a car and crushed the front of the basket and bent the frame so it got repurposed.
Glad you stopped in, I am a member of the Masonic lodge in Soddy and I love to eat at Homefolks resturant.

It looks like your garden is coming up quite well, Soon you will be eating from it and that's a good feeling i'm sure.
I have corn, lettuce, egg plant , tomatoes, cucumbers, cantaloupe watermellon, and strawberries growing in mine along with peppers and onions.

The garden is doing well there are tiny cucumbers, and peppers all over the plants. The tomato plants are loaded, the potato plants are a foot tall. Everything is looking great.

Dalton and I got busy about 10:00 this morning we finished the facia on the north end of the house and took the old satellite dish down. Then we removed a tree stump that was close to 30" across. I will be raising the grade at the stump about a foot or more so no need to grind it. It was 90 degrees and had rained this morning so it was like a sauna I was soaked by the time we finished.

Jim: I too subscribe to the 6 saturdays and a sunday weekly schedule. it's not for everybody and even though it might be less cash to spend most days it's sure nice not to have to do some of the stuff we used to call work or a job to get that almighty dollar.

I do get up every day with the intentions of getting busy, I do believe it is what keeps some people alive. I have seen people retire and just quit doing any work and die within a year or two, I'm not going to test those waters,
I made a drill and impact holder today
Also put a stereo and shelf to hold it in the shop, I ran 4 wires through the attic to the TV so I can jack the sound into the aux. port and get some decent sound. More pics of the stereo when I get it finished
