Guys
This is Molly she is a southern 57 she is a descendant of Pat's mothers old cat that they named Ugly. She dose look tortoise.
Molly is just a very laid back cat, if she tires of you she simply walks away, not a mean bone in her.
She will always greet you and try to get you to pet her but she is not pushy. No critters left standing at her house.20200709_183842.jpeg

A friend loaned me his Dingo to dig out the west wall at the bil's house. The area was originally a bbq pit and was open on two sides. Someone tried to enclose it but didnt do it right so we are tearing the bad stuff out and rebuilding it.

The hill behind me pushed the wall over. We dug the hill back a couple years ago

Cool toy. I got to use those gripper things on something slightly larger... I forgot it's designation. I was moving 10 foot logs that were cleared from my land when we were clearing it. I did a few "Super Hero moves" with it with left over pallets.

Yep it was, I was an equipment operator for a couple of years long ago and I got to run some pretty big machines. I was surprized how this little thing moved dirt.

My buddy Aaron ownes Jones stump grinding and that's what he dose with the dingo is load logs and brush from trees they cut down. That grapple is awesome, just crushed those brick like nothing.

Jim, nice to see you getting some time to play with the grown up toys. Nice job on that, it looks like it would be fun to use.

JIM: you've got skills of which we all see more of very often. keep up the great work.

I'd love to have a property big enough to have some of the tools you and others show that make life a bit easier. I surely love the exercise and getting a hard days work in, but occasionally having a machine do some would be nice.

cheers

Back in the 80s a friend of mine talked me into going to work for him at his construction company as a mechanic but it wasn't long until he had me going out to help the crew catch up then it became full time had to join the union and became a full time operator in the heavy and highway machine operators union. But it was too cold in the winter to play out there so I didnt stay too long. These are example pics of what I ran, the road grader I had was older than the pic but that is closes-l400%20(1).jpeg

My grader was cat but older than this one, mine was what you called a knuckle buster, it had gear drives not hydraulic.

I got to work on the handrails for a short time today.
20200713_111556.jpeg
I had the rails cut and a few pickets so I finished cutting what I needed for this piece
20200713_115019.jpeg
I made a set of gauges to help center the pickets
20200713_115705.jpeg
One side was a bit loose so I added a spot of weld to fine tune the fit.
20200713_115645.jpeg
The first picket is aligned with the drywall square then just keep moving down the line tacking everything first then go back and weld out.
20200713_115708.jpeg
Measure twice weld once. You cant measure too much
20200713_213824.jpeg
The round rod is 3/8" the top and bottom rails are 1 1/2" the pickets are 3/4" so the round rod goes under the picket top and bottom to center the picket in the top and bottom rail. Hope that makes sense.
20200713_213836.jpeg
All tacked up flipped over and tacked on the back. Since these are going on my house I will take it to the house and fine tune the fit before fully welding them. Not something that is done normaly but since it's so close its helpful to do.

Still have a long way to go

I had a lot of interruptions today one was the bil, his girlfriends a/c quit in her car so I had to tear the dash out and replace the blend door actuator motor then recharge the 134A to 27 oz it was close to empty, then all of the cold air was coming out of the defrost vents. Took the climate control interface out and put it on the bench it has a vacuum leak and cant pull the vent door down to the dash vents so that will get rebuilt tomorrow. It's a 2009 mercury marquis with automatic climate control, I really hate working on newer vehicles.
Give me anything pre 70s and I'm happy.
Had to go to the Masonic lodge and measure folding chair legs so we can order replacement feet, they are old and cracking off and scratching the tile floor. Then count 4' floursent bulbs so we can convert to led. I need 200 chair feet and 34 led tubes. Ordered from amazon and will be here thursday.
Then I got to go dicker on some really cool gas pump parts, I got them. They will be a future project.
It was a busy day,
I told the bil that when the a/c is done I wasnt to be bothered again until August. It's my turn to get stuff done here.Screenshot_20200713-230220_Facebook.jpeg

Jim, that's a clever work station you rigged up to build your handrail sections. What is the thickness of the square tube you are using? Your bil is a lucky man to have you living right next door. Hopefully he won't bother you until August, since that's only a couple weeks away maybe you should have said September.
What is the plan for the gas pump panels?

It didnt work at all, he doesn't listen, the bil was here and brought me another job. I will put it in the corner and ignore it til August.
The table is working great and when I'm done with it it will be the new floor for my dump trailer. Preplanning
The tubing is all 10 gauge
I'm going to see if I can build a gas pump to put in front of the shop

Jim,

Those are some really unique gas pump doors! Got me curious and I just flipped through my gas pump bible and could not find any pump that appeared to have that u-shaped cutout at the top. You might want to post a pic of those on oldgas.com for some identification help.

Thought I’d pay you a visit. I’m only up to the waterline install but noticed what looks like a 2 Dr Tahoe up on the hill so had to ask.

First, welcome
I have been looking for two days and havent found anything either. That notch is unique. Thank you, I will post over there. I would like to know what they are before I start.

Welcome
Yes it's a 95 and is known as flakey, because when we drove it the paint flakes would blow off. Pat and I rolled it a couple of times back in 2012 the tongue latch broke on the trailer and the chains held on it wasnt a good night. But I told Pat that I would rebuild it so it is still here. I purchased a 1964 chevy step side that I am going to put the body on the Tahoe chassis. It will be done after I finish the 1970 ford pickup. Always a project going on.20200508_150256.jpeg

The 64 it looks bad but is very solid and no dents

This is an inspiration shot. This is where its headed, I bought a 454 to go in it and I'm going to keep the 4L60E trans

Wrong methodology. You're rewarding bad behaviour.
You said nothing until August. Which means you might have got it fixed by October. In meantime it's eating your space, gnawing on your subconscious, and reducing your productivity.
Drag his useless POS out behind your garage, and let the grass grow over it. And, leave it to December. When it's frozen to the ground, and will have to wait til spring, when it's too muddy to get out. So waits until August, when things are dry enough. Then, if you're in the mood, and he bushwhacks it out of there, then you'll work on it. If not, then the cycle starts again.

E. J. Potter....The Michigan Madman! Saw him run his Chevy powered motorcycle in Blaney, SC back in the early sixties. TV Tommy Ivo ran his four engined Buick dragster that night too. That brought back some memories@

Hi Jim, thought I’d stop by and see your place.

Nice work going on. I like all the infrastructure stuff you’ve done, I can relate.

I like your rack for the vise grip welding clamps, might steal that one.

I’ll be back.

I have been a little out of it this week, the bil's project was a planned event but I knew it was going to be rough on my back. Getting old ain't for sissys. The old west town is looking great.

Welcome, thanks. I think that I have finally got passed the trenching, three weeks ago I had help getting the last run done. I'm hoping to get the building projects done this year (I say cautiously) then I really want to get back to my truck projects. Please use anything you see here that's what it is here for. Like they say on tv, but wait theres more,
I hope everyone that stops here gets a smile or an idea to make there day.

I like the idea of the 64 on the modern drivetrain. I had two 77 Blazers and my 99 Tahoe. I wanted to do a 77 but realized the 99 was already 80% like I want it. I wonder if the Tahoe tailgate and rear glass will fit in one of those USPS mail anything if it fits in the box.

So I have been running errands all day first We took Kayla to her volunteer job, then went to ace hardware to buy a couple food grade buckets then went to steel shop and picked up some flat bar, then to advance to pick up a filter, then walmart for glasses repair, then home for lunch and pickup garden hose(we forgot), then to lowes to return crappy hose and bought a new pressure washer. Then back to pick up kayla. Stopped at dollar general and family dollar on the way home. I ain't leaving the yard for three weeks.
I am trying a new technique on making wine, some of the things that I use to make wine foam up and clogs the air lock when I'm using a one gallon jug so I bought a two gallon bucket and drilled the lid to accept an air lock.
20200716_132054.jpeg
Drilled a pilot hole to center the hole
20200716_132303.jpeg
Used a step bit
20200716_132217.jpeg
Nice smooth hole
20200716_134147.jpeg
After sterilizing everything I pureed five pounds of peaches skin and all.
20200716_182025.jpeg
Then I bloomed my yeast and added some water and other ingredients. Sealed the lid and filled the air lock. Now we wait.
I am going to start a run of Blackberry wine but I'm not sure what technique I'm going to use yet. Got to go unload the truck and put things away.

My wine starts as Alabama grown grain whiskey in mason jars... comes in whatever flavor you dilute it with.

Nice setup there Jim...
I was in Raleigh, NC in the early '70s and discovered you needed to bring your own alcoholic beverage to the restaurant if you wanted a cocktail, beer or wine. Not knowing the area I stopped at a gas station and asked where the nearest liquor store was. The attendant walked over to an old Cadillac, opened the trunk and said RightCheer and pointed to a case of moonshine. I didn't need a gallon so he sent me to an ABC store in the next county that wasn't dry. In the store you could buy brand names but there was also a very large display of clear jugs with tiny bottles nearby. The jugs had tax stamp seals with 100 proof grain alcohol and the tiny bottles had colored and flavored adders to make Rye, Scotch, Bourbon, Gin and Tequila (no color in the last two). I wasn't yet blind and wanted to stay that way so I bought a pint of brand name Scotch. You can still buy the flavoring.

Friend of mine used to spend summers in Maggie Valley, NC. When we relaxed after a long bike ride, he'd bring out a quart jar (or two) of what he said was called "strawberry jam" by the locals .... 190 everclear type "liquid" with strawberries in it. Old guy would come down to one of the gas stations and if you were "allright" you could buy some jam from him.. Take your breath away, which was fortunate if there was any fire in the area...

Ok, finally got back to my shop.
I finished a couple of little projects that accumulated while I was out.
I finished the tabs on the first section of handrail and moved it to storage. I measured section two and started cutting. I have an echo smart speaker jacked into my old stereo and Waylon Jennings streaming when Alexa announces that I have a delivery, I didnt know this was a thing. So I go to the mailbox and sure enough, stuff.
I got a blade from bigdog that goes on my angle grinder it is supposed to replace the cut off wheels. It has a lifetime guarentee and has some good reviews.
Well I'm about to review this bad boy myself, I dont think anything can last through as much **** as I cut.
