I tried the Diablo diamond wheels with mixed feelings. It will be interesting to get your feedback.

Hey Jim
Its good to hear that you are getting things done in the shop, I got a long standing project done my self this weekend, felt good to get that out of the way. Hope the blade works out the way you want it to.

Jim,
I had to look twice at that blade!
The way it is packaged makes it look like it should go on an oscillating tool.
Zoomed in and saw what was going on.
Anxious to hear what you think of it.

Jim: while I was cutting up a bunch of rebar I watched a few youtube videos where a few guys were doing comparisons on blades and I can't recall BAD DOG being one of the options.

there were a few LIFETIME or LONG LIFE blades in the tests and they didn't seem to cut as quick so curious to see and hear what you say after using it a bit cause i'm sure you'll have some old metal sumpins to cut soon.

I ended up buying a box of cut off blades for about $10 off Craigs for my big old Rockwell chopsaw that should last me maybe a lifetime, but having a nice blade on one of my 4.5 grinders would be nice to have.

keep on doing what you do and hope it's not too hot yet in your piece of paradise.

Well, I dont know if there is a learning curve with this new blade but it will be a while before I use it again if ever.
It is heavy and wide and when I started my angle grinder it about twisted it out of my hand. It's like holding onto a gyroscope, as you turn your wrist it tries to keep rotating. The cerf is very wide, I'd say 1/8" +, it wont cut circles I believe because of the width. It cuts very slow. I lost control of my grinder twice and got one hell of a blood blister on my knuckle.
I guess in short I hope they will refund my 130 bucks! I will go back to my 6" pearle disks.
I have four angle grinders and three of them are set up for use at all times and have been my goto tool for many years. They are an extension of my hand, that blade scared me.

My neighbor put a 8 1/4" wood saw blade on his 4 1/2" angle grinder... to trim deck boards... I literally could not watch... he did it one handed... I offered a grab handle screw in thing a ma jig... decided to take cover since I wasn't wearing a blood proof poncho.

Yikes. I'd expect to see something like that in a slasher flick. :scared:

Got another rail finished. Of course something moved from the time I measured to the test fit (that's such a cheat, test fitting) so I cut 1/8" off one end and welded it back to the other end.
I think next one I'll let Pat hold one end of the tape when I measure.20200722_121028.jpeg
Weld cut off on other end

Started on number three. It got hot I had to close the door and turn the air on. Streaming Allan Jackson.
It hasn't rained in a while the ground is cracking so I have been going out and moving a garden hose every 40 minutes to soak my bushes and trees that were planted this year.20200722_155003.jpeg

Jim, handrail is looking good. I just noticed the profile you added to the top rail. That is a nice feature. Can you share the details of that? Thanks

Thanks, you mentioned something about a handrail or something you wanted some specialty parts for. King architectural metals may have it.

Jay
Sure, it a standard top rail cap that I get from my steel supplier.
If you look at the steps in the bottom side it will sit on 1.5" or 1.25" square tube that gives you options on making your rail look beefier or lighter depending on the look you want I'm trying to stay with the country/ shaker style.
There are a bunch of different styles, the catalog is almost 2" thick. The company I used to work for made lots of handrail some as expensive as 400 dollars per foot depending on how much **** you want on it.20200723_140410.jpeg20200723_135706.jpeg

Jim, that's pretty slick. Thanks for the details, at first I thought you might had built it up using separate pieces, but pre-made is easier. I will be checking that company out for ideas.

Hi Jim
Just checking in to see what new project you are playing with
Your railing is looking great even if one end is an 1/8" shorter

I'm playing electrician over here wiring up my new diesel 65kw generator for the party garage in case we ever have another party

Hahaha, yep I need to work on my measuring skills.
I bought 300 cinder block today and hauled them in and stacked them in front of the hobbit house, when I get the railings finished I need to build a couple of wing walls to flank it.
The lady I bought the block from gave us some giant bamboo and we are going to see if We can grow a couple of them.
I've had a 21 kva generator sitting here for a while waiting on the trenching to get done. I purchased a 250 gallon propane tank and dropped it at the sandblaster they said next week maybe. I'll paint it white.
Think we will ever get caught up?
20200725_163636.jpeg
This is a cut piece of bamboo about 30 ft long.
20200725_163650.jpeg
This is huge but doesn't weigh but around 5lbs

Careful with bamboo... it grows like weeds... sends out feeder roots... will sprout under walls, trees... impossible to kill.

Neighbor few blocks away planted some... took over and spread into the neighbors yard. Nature preserve sent out a warning notice (since we live in a protected forest wetland)

So long as you let the barrel stick a couple inches out of the ground, and whack any sneaky little tendrils trying to jump the fence, on a regular basis, you can contain bamboo in a plastic barrel.

Same deal works for those decorative grasses. Some of them are pretty aggressive.

What a fishing pole.
There’s two varieties or styles of bamboo, clumping and running. Not sure of the official name. Parents had the running type and yes it is terrible. A couple friends have the clumping variety, one did mow close so his clump went from 2’ diameter to about 12’ diameter. The other friend, his is staying at about a 5’ diameter. Probably the particular species.

Oh yea... grasses took over the end of my road... it's where I toss the annual dry cuttings from my garden grasses. The deer love it... and it gives a nice end to my dead end. Nature preserve people approve but the Forest Fire peoples do not.

Did a little gravel work in the back yard today. I hauled in 16 tons of 57s to make a trailer pad20200727_113226.jpeg
First load, a little weak
20200727_145004.jpeg
After second load I spread them with the tractor that we welded the case back together in, it is working well and no leaks.

I was at lowes waiting in line and a couple of us started talking somehow the discussion went to concrete block and this lady said she had about 100 block left over from a remodel job on her house from a couple of years ago. We struck a deal and I went to get them but there was 300 block of which about 50 of them were full size cap block. It took most of the day to haul them but I now have them stack and waiting.20200730_193057.jpeg
I am going to build wing walls to keep the dirt banks from washing in

You can see the dirt stain on the front wall of the cellar where I dug the dirt back.

Yes it will be a bit before I get to it, but its one of the jobs I really want to check off my list. That whole area from the cellar to the new driveway extension still needs to be reworked. It bugs me to look at it.

Im a good talker I can talk myself into more jobs than anyone else I know. Glad to have the blocks.

My Dodge has blown a head gasket,it seems the 4.7 is known for that, I didnt know they were prone to it until I joined the club. I dont have the time or desire to tear it down and repair it but I'm going to keep it and fix it later, I have had it since July of 2005 and it only has 107000 miles on it.
So I went out yesterday and bought a work truck it's a 2005 Ford F250 4X4 with a power stroke diesel, I'm hoping it will be able to keep up with my old Dodge.
It's about twice the size of my Dodge100_3722.jpg100_3723.jpg20200730_182831.jpeg20200730_172600.jpeg20200730_172626.jpeg

I am pretty sure you will be happy with it Jim and you will be thanking your self that you got the extra options later when the 4x4 comes in handy. I have had two extended cab rangers now and the extra room sure is nice. Good luck with it.

Thanks Kev, I'm liking it a lot.
I'm going to try to pressure wash the bed liner out as a lot of it is loose then get a new one sprayed in.
I'm going to change the running boards also, I put a set of amp research electric boards on Pat's truck and with my bad back I can get in and out of hers easy, they drop about 9"

I finally got back to the handrails today, my delivery from King Architectural got here a couple of days ago. I had started on the railing that comes down the right side of the steps.20200801_173010.jpeg
I made the bottom run and took it to the porch for a test fit, it fit good so I duplicated it and added uprights and pickets.
20200801_183649.jpeg
Then I had to cut some angled pickets.
20200801_183700.jpeg
I did the math and came up with some spacers.
20200801_183716.jpeg
I took a combo square and soapstone and put some road lines down to keep me straight.
20200801_183729.jpeg
Stack them up and tack them down

Then I got into my King architectural box20200801_191532.jpeg
A little bling20200801_191546.jpeg
I found center, did the math again and cut out seven inches.
20200801_194834.jpeg
I took my angle grinder and took off a little at a time until it fit snug then layed a straight edge across the pickets to make sure it was set in straight.
20200801_194953.jpeg
A little welding and a little grinding.
20200801_194958.jpeg
Just a close up
20200801_195316.jpeg
It was well past five o clock so time to refresh. More tomorrow, liquor comes out tools go back in the box.
