A thousand years from now, an archaeologist will unearth the dragon, and formulate an entire mythology about 'they who worshipped dragons,' when all you wanted to-do was to make some travel money! The 'Gray Fossil Draco Worshippers!'

Always entertaining to see how you're working hard, and what you do, it inspires me to 'step-away from the keyboard and go-do some work!'

While going through my stuff for the yard sale I found a thermometer I had forgotten about so I mounted it on the shop.

I didn't have the correct size anchors handy so here's my hack.

Did you see the phone number!
It feels good to get back to my shop.

Aren't you afraid the match will increase the temperature reading?

I will note... My uncle (master cabinet maker)... kept a box of toothpicks in his arsenal for just such a task. Two toothpicks... wood glue... even in concrete... My childhood garage was held together with toothpicks, marine glue and old TV Cabinet carcasses picked from other peoples garbage.

In wood... I would never use plastic anchors... I'm afraid my Uncle would spin in his casket.

Stripped out hinge screws... would get drilled and dowel'd. I would select an exotic wood dowel too... just to be secure. Hickory, Walnut, Oak, Beechwood. I would never use cheap *** dowels... ... they are thick butter.

Wire ties in lieu of match sticks work great. Stick the wire tie in the hole, cut it off flush, and install the screw.

Hey Jim,
I've got that same pedal car except mine is a fire truck.
I've also got a picture of 2 year old me sitting in it.
View media item 107073View media item 107074
I've got the original wood ladders and ladder racks that bolt to the sides, behind the seat. I had to remove them to fit in the cabinet.
It still has the bell, but is missing the red revolving light and 2 hubcaps.
I rode the heck out of that thing till I didn't fit into anymore!
The plan is to hang it from a ceiling at some point, hopefully I'll have the space once we relocate.
Looking forward to seeing yours!

That is very cool. I wish I still had mine but everything was handed down when you out grew it, so no idea where it is now.
I have been looking for one to make into a gasser. I saw several fire trucks and passed because I didn't want to remove that hose bed. The grill is a little rough on this one so it's not like I'm destroying a classic and that body should look good when done.
Did you know speedway motors sells most of the parts for our cars?

Cool toys... my life was simpler... Pines senior enjoyed throwing everything away... even if you were still interested or using it. We had 1 frying pan... 1 pot... for example. His excuse was always where would we put it... if you answered that question... His response was always... nevermind, NO, and walk away...

He would **** if he walked into my shop.

Found the pic of yours truly in the pedal car.
I was lucky on the hand me downs.
Small family, I was the only boy and the youngest of my generation.

I looked at Speedway's parts. No hubcaps that match 100%.
I knew there were sources for replacement parts, but haven't looked yet.
I'm not planning to restore mine, but might replace the hubcaps and light.

I think the gasser mod is gonna be pretty cool Jim!

I got Pat's new steering gearbox from red head today so I tore the old one out, decided to replace the power steering hose while it was down. Putting the hose on while the box is on the frame is really tight so do it now.
20201012_132304.jpeg
Got it out, the one I took out is new it only had maybe five miles on it but it was sloppy and I had just had surgery on my neck so the warranty ran out before I got it off.
20201012_132317.jpeg
This one is full needle bearing no slop guarenteed. Who doesn't love an upgrade.
20201012_132344.jpeg
I also told her the tires were too big and it would never steer great but she used to race jeeps back in the day so that fell on deaf ears. 32x11.50R15 LT are just a little big in my opinion.

Got a lot done today
Had to track down a p/s hose for Pat's jeep, I went to several parts stores with the old hose and every one had a different hose that there computer said was stock. Napa was close so I ordered it.
Painted the final coat on the chairs and got them on the front porch.
Mowed and mulched my lawn and the neighbors front yard. Fred passed away last week and Phyllis is not able to mow so I need to help keep it mowed for now.
And Finally I got the welding bench cleaned and ground off so I can start the gazebo tomorrow.
I dont know what is going on with my phone I cant get a pic to load anymore. Well maybe tomorrow they will post. :Dunno

Thanks lis
I scored a couple cabinets and a drawer unit today for free. The drawer unit was full so I sorted it into my existing drawers. I plan on painting the drawers tomorrow. Before I start cutting steel.

Jim, Great to read all of you post on here. I have been a member a while but have not been on here much. I was looking for some storage ideas since I sold out of my big shop and down sized when I came across your thread here and had to read it all. Man you did a lot since we were there a few years ago. I seen the picts of your peddle cars and thought I would share mine I did an update changed to an electric one. I had to build it to carry my 220+ pounds and it does with ease. Here are some picts. I used 2 14.4v Dewalt drill power packs to power the 24volt scooter motor.

Hey Marv.
Glad your here.
That is a cool pedal car, I think it's the same body as the last one I got. I was planning on a gasser build for this new one and maybe go R/C with a chainsaw or weed eater motor. I remember the one you built for your grandson that ran on a dewalt drill. The homestead has gone through a lot of changes since you and Shirley were here and I'm not sure if we are close to being done or not. Thanks for stopping in.

I thought the end was in site a couple years ago but I am doing pretty good now. The Doc. made me retire so I stay busy I do something every day, no slackers here.

I cleaned and sanded the drawer unit and painted it. The drawers are regal red and the case is dark bronze hammered finish (rustoleum) then I played shelf tetris to fit it in place.

Ok, I finally got started on the gazebo today. Stalled as long as I could. I did the math and checked code on rail height and came up with 29.75" for the pickets, that left about a 1.5" drop so no waste.
20201017_181132.jpeg
The drawing
20201017_164405.jpeg
Counted out enough stock for 96 pickets
20201017_164418.jpeg
I made a pattern and welded a stop on one end.

20201017_164447.jpeg
The pattern sitting on top of the first cut, I use my angle grinder and a cut off wheel set it against the pattern and cut, they all come out the same lenght that way.
20201017_181245.jpeg
96 pieces cut and I started the bevel on the ends but I got a call for help from the bil and stopped here for the night.
Tomorrow I think we are going to drive up chilhowee mountain and check the color change. From the house we can see the mountain is changing, it turns red at the top and works it's way down to green at the bottom. Hopefully I'll get some picts.
