Jim, Tapatalk saw Ryan's new format as an excuse to harvest all the data we GJ users have on our phones. Tapatalk also hosts the GJ phone app so that bit of your life was theirs for the taking as well. According to Trapatalk it's all innocent, they just want to make your experience and their executives richer. When an ad on Facebook matches a search on Amazon and vice-versa, I get a taste of what this site would be like if Ryan didn't care.

Im trying to figure out why my app stopped on my phone. laptop is working fine.
I deleated everything and reinstalled but no bueno!!!
I’m having same problem. App may be part of Tapatalk which I believe Ryan was eliminating.
Edit: ok not liking that Jim’s post showed as last post then I post and two more show up.

Jim, I'm assuming the app you're referring to is the Garage Journal or Tapatalk App - if so, Ryan canned both of them off a few days ago as they were seeking to impose updated terms of service and demanding access to user databases etc.

I should have known Bob would be on the ball while I was typing...

Yeh, the Garage Journal App was written and managed by the Tapatalk guys - so the problem would have been the same with both.

I dont do well with just the laptop, This phone is a pos and has always been. It will not talk to my laptop to transfer my pics, right now I have to email all of my pics to myself to get them onto my laptop. I will get things worked out and be back soon. I have been busy trying to get materials together for my new chicken coop, I have been given two different loads of free lumber last week and also scored two dump trailer loads of river rock for a future project. Wish I could get things worked out and get back here like it used to be.

Now you have to play around with the images, you can add them as thumbnails or full size or both. Full size looks better than the thumbnails, but getting the picture uploaded is important for sure.

Thanks Strouty, And Ralf. I am waiting on my boost mobile to finish there 5G network before I get a new phone. I went to get a new one and the lady there said to wait until they finish and that would help decide what phone to get.

It has been raining since yesterday evening, I got the trailer unloaded and put away, then I stacked the wood in the chicken lot, the concrete block and some rock by the hobbit house, then put the tractor in the shed all the while it was lightning in the distance. Got in my truck and drove to the shop, the sky opened up and rained so hard I'm sure I saw Noah going down the creek in front of the house.20210603_115710.jpg20210603_115722.jpg20210603_115730.jpg

Are the chickens going to be contained in a yard or free range? Do me a favor, and send some of that rain our way. Still the driest spring in my 50 some years of living here.

X, shopnut,
Thanks.
The fence that the tractor is over was the garden it is 40'x40'ish and the coop will be 15'x8' and will be to the back of that area. The coop will be enclosed with a wire front and door for there safety but they will have free run of the whole place during the day.
20210603_210541.jpg
You can see the fence behind the gazebo. It will have a hot wire run around the top and bottom to keep the coyotys out.
The rain is bad timing but we haven't had any measurable rain fall in almost three weeks. The lady that gave me the lumber has a couple trailer loads of river rocks that I want to get before something changes the rain set that back a week. I will need at least 21 bowling ball size rocks for a project that I am collecting parts for, that will save me a bit of money, they are 150 dollars per ton at the quarry.

Went back to soddy-Daisy again today, we brought back a 45' semi trailer that has been sitting out in the middle of a field for about 20 years. We had a generator, an air compressor, and a pile of tools, one tire had 20 lbs of air the other 7 were empty. I took a clip on air chuck and just let each tire go for about 20 minutes that got them to 70 lbs each Close enough. The crank handle for the dollies was missing, I found a piece of pipe and heated it with the torch, stuck it in the icc bumper and bent a handle I blowed two holes in the end and we found a bolt in the truck to attach it to the dollies it worked well. I asked the driver to try to move it and it rolled nice. Someone else backed the brakes off years ago thank goodness.
We stopped and picked up some more free wood on the way home, I think I have enough to build the chicken coop now so the plan is to start tomorrow, I'm calling in some favors from my bil and Dalton to help get the framing up.

It is going behind the bil's garage. We are going to drop it down some so it lines up with his truck bed. He needs more room so he can get his car and the rest of his **** out of my shop before I move it out. It's only been there since 2014.
I was moving so fast yesterday that I didnt get any pics, the truck driver was on the clock and charging by the hour. Luckey for me all went well no big problems all total it took 5 hours and it was an hour drive from the house.

Got to work on the chicken coop today. It rained several times today so we took many brakes while it rained we sat in the gazebo.
20210606_113818.jpg
This is where we started, this was the garden but the soil is so bad it dosnt grow well so we were going to dig it down about 8" and fill it with good soil but bending forward is what gets my back so we decided to go with chickens here and maybe build some raised beds later.
20210606_150616.jpg
All of this is salvaged lumber, I didnt buy anything except the deck screws and I buy them by the totes and that is what I use for every project, I dont like nails.

Dalton and Dude are tamping in the 4x4's we put them in the ground about 20"

This is as far as we got today, Dalton had to go bbq for the family, I gave him my old grill and his relatives think he needs to cook for them all weekend. This is a good place to stop as I can measure for my metal and get it ordered, then I need to get my dig wire bent and buried around the frame.

Just 8 for now, we may put a divider down the middle and add something else later.
In another life I had about two dozen buff orpingtons, three bourbon red turkeys, and six pygmy goats. I like having some farm animals around more than domestic pets. The eggs are a big plus and I dont mind harvesting them for meat once they start multiplying.
I have a friend who has offered to get me started with some quail, so theres no telling what may move in.

Chickens aren't going to stay on that pen. We had 8 foot fencing and had to put a net over it. When they free-ranged we think a neighbor was getting free chicken.

If you clip the flight feathers from one wing only they usually cant get over a 4' fence. But I am planning on letting them out in the morning and let them eat tics and bugs in the yard, then put them in the roost at night. I do plan on the occasional hawk strike but I have enough tree cover to chance it.

Thanks, I have a great support system here.

I should note here that the bil was a lot of help, I think we may have had a breakthrough moment.

Yeah I understand that one, the Mrs and I will end up down in TN at some point. There is too many variables that are stopping us from moving now.

No but they can climb over it. We have two that will do it. And predators can easily get over it. We had a fox walking the top of the pen one night trying to figure out how to get through the net. Strangely he was allergic to buckshot.

I like repurposing stuff, I was given all of the lumber in the pen so I inventoried what I had and built it to that size. I will buy new metal to skin it with on three sides but I want to put the reclaimed fence boards on the front for a rustic look.

Uncle Willy
It's always a gamble with chickens, we were going to put a hot wire around the bottom and top of the chain link fence on the outside to keep out critters from the start. We talked about netting the roof but not this year. If predators get bad they will have enough room in the coop to stay. A friend about 2 miles up the road has about 40 chickens he has lost 2 to hawks this year so not bad odds. Around here most are allergic to Henry golden boys.

I went to an estate sale today and bought 384 new in the box wine bottles that's 32 cases for 16.00 total. Now I got to fill them up.
20210607_175324.jpg
They had four of these steel forms that Pat wanted, dose anyone know what they are?
20210607_175246.jpg
I'll stack the bottles in the basement for now.
I'm hoping to spend some time on the coop tomorrow, if the rain holds off.

Just checking in on the Farm lol
Nice score on the bottles. If that were me My wife would have several bottle trees and bushes filled with those.
Laughed about only 8 chickens cause that's what my wife started with around here.
We now have 50 in the coop along wit 3 adult turkeys and 6 baby turkeys also there are 4 baby chicks under momma wings.
We throw more eggs away than we eat.
the eggs are a good give away around here too. We don't let the chickens out of the pen because of the many hawkjs we see flying into the big tree out front. (Can't wait to get back into my garage again)

We couldn't give the late FiL's bottles away. Or his beer and wine making equipment either. Everything went to the dump. A couple of pick-up loads. Posted on Craigslist, back before Marketplace. Kind of like the Cherry logs I have. Can't give them away to any one who plays with woodworking, they'll end up getting used for fire wood. What a waste.

The coop looks like it will offer plenty of room for future growth. My GF wants chickens, not sure how I feel about them, alive anyways. Hope the rain lets you get things done, we are having a heat wave here, should be done after today, yesterday was 100 with heavy humidity. :(

Farmer Brown here, glad you are on the mend, I hope all is going well with your neck.
I will probably wind up with way more than 8 also but I do separate and harvest meat(got to get some of my investment back) and your right about the eggs, they are like gold around here to the ladies that bake, there at 3 dollars per dozen.
I was on facebook (goat crazy group) and there was a guy with a 34 ford coupe he made into a coop, I dont think I could do that.

I find that to be true here also, we go to many estate sales around here and the equipment I see is dirt cheap, I make note of where it's at and go back on the final day of the sale and it will be 75% off.
20210607_175324.jpg
My 32 cases of wine bottles.
I would chip some of that cherry and add it to my bbq, it smokes as good as apple. Find someone that likes to smoke meat they should want it, I would want it.
Strouty
Thanks, that was the idea, to have enough room in case they had to stay cooped up for a time. I'll put nest boxes on one end. I cant wait for the eggs they are way different than store eggs.
The rain is falling apart, we haven't got anything like they said we would.

Jim, that's the first '34 3-window chicken coupe I've ever seen. That would not go over well on the H.A.M.B.!

Well I had a busy day, I did a bunch of little jobs cleaned some wine barrels, put some tools away. I finally got to measure the coop for metal, I was given a box truck body and thought I would put it behind the shop and park the mowers in it but it isn't long enough so I passed it to the bil. I decided to add to the garden shed and park the mowers there, so I measured it and made a metal list. I went to best buy metals and ordered the metal for both projects, the salesman said good timing, the price was going up 20 cents per foot next week. It will be ready for pickup tomorrow, I had four pieces of green metal long enough to start on the roof in the morning.
The bil called and wanted me to help him pick up some chain link fence he found on marketplace so we took a ride, it had been painted with white latex paint so we passed on it.
