Rats can't bite you if you hold their front legs down. So you pick them up by the tail... toss them on your left arm... hold their tail as the try to bite your neck... use your right hand to fold their front legs down. Bingo bongo... stick their head into the chopper and cut their head off.

Kirk,I have two neighbors that are youngish, 30s,I really like them but they both just let there animals roam unrestricted. The first one had pygmy goats that ate all of Pat's flowers and rose bushes. They are gone, the second promised the pigs are gone. I went to tractor supply and bought an electric gate closer, going to start on that when the fence gets done. This is the **** that's filling my todo list and keeping me from getting what I need done done.

Kay you are so right, my uncle used to keep pigs, they will eat there young, they will eat other animals and there young, I saw one eat a duck once. Put a body in a hog pen and they will eat it bones and all. Nasty bastards.

Don, show Ann some select videos and she will change her mind. Nasty bastards.

Pines, I used to chase chicago sewer rats with my snow plow, it's kind of like Mario brothers, they run for the sewer drains.

Uncle Willie, that's the only way I like pigs.

I worked in an animal lab... at a university... testing foods on Rats, Rabbits, Dogs. The rats and rabbits were "dispatched" for necropsy at the end of each study. My job was to remove various organs and glands from them to have them checked for radioactive markers. I got pretty good at slicing up a rat to pull out their "spit glands" in their neck area. I would do about 200 or so on a "harvest day". I even used a microscope to do necropsies on newborn rat babies.

The things we used to do for a living before we actually made a living doing things.

-When I lived in Chicago (Logan Square) I used to take the trash out to the barrel in the alley with a loaded .22 because of the rats, big ones. In the 9 years I lived in Polk County up against the national forest I never saw any of the feral hogs, several bears but no hogs or evidence of them in the garden. No evidence of them at the new location either.

Worked on the fence some today, kinda sore from yesterday.

That runs east over to Scott's place.
20220305_131444.jpg
The ground falls bad in this spot but is the best place for a gate, so I set the gate and leveled it so I could find the height for the gate post.
20220305_131340.jpg
The hinge pins are welded in place so no adjusting the height after install. The lower gate hinge is welded in place also.
I will back fill the low spots with dirt once the gate is finished.

I'm seeing a kind of 1 dimensional CJ body for the golf cart.
Straight lines, no compound curves, flat fenders....

Easy-ish to make from flat stock for a guy with your talent.

Terry, great minds think alike.

This is my temporary welding bench that I have had forever.
20220305_202628.jpg
Inbetween the two sheets of 10 ga. Is a sheet of 16 ga.
Its 5'x 10' and that is exactly what I thought about doing. Model it after a 53 CJ2A, flat fender jeep, no compound curves, mostly flat panels.

Uncle Willie normally I would have just shot them and called him to come get there carcasses. Buttttt, a really big but on this one, they moved in about two months ago, they sold there 100 acre place on the blue ridge parkway, about three weeks ago they went back to get the rest of there stuff and close on that property. While they were there there 2yo baby drowned in a well.
Her 4yo sister claims the pigs as hers and had to show them to me then she had to give me a very big hug and every time Whitley sees Mr. Jim she has to give me a hug and tell me about her day. So you see my dilemma.
Shoot I was going to finish that danged ole fence anyway, someday.

Square body 1 ton 4 door cab long bed. I believe it's the longest frame they put out in 79. We have a sleeper at a buddies house that has doors on both sides, we want to set it up as a 4 door incorporating the sleeper and cut out the pass through. Once I get the carport moved to the back of the shop I'll move it there.

I told a guy once, he checked it out and said he didnt hear anything, Willie!

It belongs to the bil at this point, he will cheap out and use whatever, if I wind up with it I would like Cummins power or a Detroit 371, at a minimum a big block Chevy. Right now it is way down on the list, but we are collecting parts. He and I were talking about it a couple of days ago, we need to go get the sleeper before Alvin passes away(he is in his 80s) and we would loose that piece.

I had a 371 a long time ago and I had checked with advance adaptors and they had the stuff to hook it to a turbo 400, that would be a very cool set up. Warner and swazy gradealls used the 371 to power the shovel and most had a 318 for a drive motor back then.

Thanks guys, he was one of the good ones.

I didnt get anything done today, my brother called and kept me on the phone until 1:00 am last night, I cant function the next day if I stay up past 11:00, had to take Kay to work and I stopped at about eight stores looking for Ivy dry on the way home, I have poison ivy on my arms. All sold out, guess I'll use the Ivarest at the house, I dont like it as much.
The bil came over and changed the oil in his truck. A county cop wanted to set in my driveway, he was looking to catch the neighborhood §hițbűm that speeds down our road.

Since I have had to dive out of that guys way about three times, I told the cop he was welcome to park there any time, I even asked if he needed a bottle of coke or water while he waited. It rained most of the day so I just wandered around aimlessly.

Jim, so sad about your uncle. My heartfelt condolences.

I am very susceptible to poison ivy and avoid contact as much as possible. I have found and buy to wear when weedeating and weeding tyvek sleeves. They do not breathe but I don't itch for a week after yardwork!

Thank you Bugnut,

As for the poison its something I'm learning to deal with. It never bothered me until a couple of years ago, I used to pull it out bare handed but age has changed me and now I get it easily, I just need to realize I cant do some things the way I used to. Old guy syndrome!

My go to for poison ivy is lacquer thinner and acetone. Apply vigorously with a scrubby. Then wash well with Fels naphtha. It's an old farmer recipe, but my PI rarely lasts more than the day I get it.

That's funny, the first spot that I saw I washed in lacquer thinner, and that used to be my go to for cleaning my arms and hands before goin in the house. Maybe I was killing it and didnt know it. Guess I'll go back to washing in it again.

Dawn is easier on your skin. If you think you have been exposed, wash thoroughly with dawn on a wash cloth using cool water. If you wash well enough you won’t even break out/itch.
My condolences for your uncle 🥺

Dawn breaks up the oil’s from the plant before it is absorbed. At this stage Ivarest is about your only help and that’s usually not much in my experience. Don’t take hot showers. The hot water will increase the spread of the rash. As cool a shower as you can stand is best. I have been a life long sufferer of poison ivy, oak and sumac.

BTW thanks for posting the picture, I think I’m starting to break out now 😉

Michael thank you,
As far as breaking out...too late
20220309_211516.jpg
It's all over both arms. The Ivarest is making it tolerable.
Nasty. Looks just like I get. Time to scrub it up with lacquer thinner. Rip em open and let em sting. The lacquer thinner breaks down the urushiol, as long as it can get to it under the skin, thus the scrubby.

Knock on wood, it still doesn't affect me.
At the worst, I'll get a couple blisters and they'll be gone within a day.
Growing up, we lived at the edge of hundreds of acres of timber and pretty much were in the woods everyday of summer.
I can remember some of my friends being covered head to toe in calamine lotion most of the time.
Ahh, good times!

John it never bothered me until a few years ago, getting old ain't for sissies.

Terry yep me too, until now. We used to **** hunt in southern Illinois, everyone would have it except me.
