Started working on Harleys on weekends in 1969 at my uncles shop, so I've been doing this for awhile. About 8 years ago I had a series of strokes and then kidney cancer thought I was dying so I sold EVERYTHING. Doctors did their jobs and I didn't die so now I've got to get back to work. General hand tools were no problem replacing, but Harley specialty tools are another story, my old tools I collected as I needed them over the years. Now I need to reup a lot quicker, still have a long list but this is a good hunk and a decent start.

A great tool for Harley's IMHO, is the harbor freight composit ratchets, I got one for cheep so I tried it out, they are my favorite rachet's , don't scratch chrome or paint try one ..you may like it.
Other special Harley tools I have found on Amazon , much cheeper than other places. Things like cam tools for evo and twin cam, pinon nut tool, mainshaft pullers....ect.
Work just as good as the usual sources and look very similar just cost less.
Good luck friend.

Not a fan of composite ratchets, but will use either Mac or Screamin' Eagle protective sockets for some chrome fasteners and do use tank and fender covers if paint job is nice...thanks for the tip though, will check out Amazon

1982fxr, I managed to hold onto to a few of my dealership accounts, if I need to buy new I usually go that route. Right now I'm on a hunt for a used flywheel truing stand, missed out on one last month but one will turn up

Staying alive was an inconvenient turn of events in the grand tool scheme. All I can say is welcome back to the land of the living and have fun tool shopping. That is not a curse. I'm fond of Wright tool for the major tools like sockets, ratchets, and wrenches. Maybe some Elkind allen wrenches and a good screw driver set is an immediate need. I like SO and Mac screwdrivers although Wright has a beefy set too.

Flywheel stand for evo ? Should not be a problem, for the new twin cam wheels, only a hand full of people can do that work, darkhorse, r&r cyles and a few others. Harley now just calls them disposables..... And that wheel runs trough the oil pump....its why I am back on an evo...lol

Happy to hear that you're among the living, Martin. I can definitely sympathize with your plight. About seven years ago, I had a real bad crash on my bike while riding home from my job (Harley dealership). Fifteen broken bones and a weeks-worth of coma. I was air-lifted to the hospital. Needless to say, there were many $$$ in bills that my insurance did not pay, and I was stuck.

I couldn't even walk, let alone work. I had to sell my shop off. I lost my lathe, my bridgeport, my surface grinder, and all of my machine tooling. Sadly, I'm still trying to get it back. I'm recovered now, but the struggle is to justify spending $25k on machinery again.

Hahaha, inconvenient is a great word. With the life I've led I should have been gone long ago, sickness aside. But the sad truth is I'm here and a VA disability check just doesn't cut it so it's back to work. Like a typical GJ member I've gone what most would call overboard with hand tools in the past year, now it's time to concentrate on specialty tools, beside hand tools I'm pretty set with shop tools, press, welders, badsaw, wheel balancer etc. . Now it's time to Harley specific tools

I specialize in pre 84 Harleys, so flywheel truing is a must. Been doing this for over 40 years and have somewhat of a reputation for being a mechanic and not a modern parts changer. I will and can work on evos and twin cams ( also looking for scanner) but I'm happiest split cases deep into a old motor

Understand completely your situation, hope it gets better and works out for you.
