Good afternoon!
I was out pulling up T-posts this morning, and I was using the same jack that I remember using pretty much all my life for various things around the house/farm.
I have seen much more modern ones attached to all sorts of 4x4s, and especially jeeps lately. Well during my post pulling activity, my mind wandered off to when this old jack was actually made. It was old looking in the mid 70s, when I started to use it. I started to inspect it for year marks or something to help ID it, and soon saw that each component was numbered something different.
Is there any way to narrow down the DOM on this thing? The handle is still the original wood one, and all of the components are still original as well. We did swap out a couple of nuts that had gotten pretty beat up, but I think that is about it.
My quick research on it tells me that Harrah invented the thing back in 1905. The name 'Handyman' was changed to 'Hi-Lift' at some point, but I have not been able to nail that date down yet either. Like I said, I haven't done much of any research on this yet. I figured I would ask here first.

Some sites were bashing the design a little, because in the 'down' setting, you need to hang onto the handle. They didn't, and it smacked them. Just know how to use the thing.

I can post pics if they would help at all... but it is just a well used jack. It does have some of the original paint though.

^ I sent my crystal ball out for cleaning about a week ago, so I'm not going to be of much help without some photos. Photos showing patent dates, patent numbers, manufacturer's name, or model number can help a great deal.
If you're talking about the jack that knocks out front teeth if used improperly, I think I know which one you're referring to, but I'm not going to ask Google for information about "handyman" - it will probably lead me to some **** site or something.
But while we're here....
;)

I checked GJ while I was inside grabbing a drink. Ran back out and took a couple of pics of the jack. I am using it, so forgive the worksite appearance.

I did not see any patent dates or numbers.
No model number either. Just the 'HANDYMAN' name.

That's an old one, still has the wooden handle. I have one just like it and remember using it around the farm.
I don't know when they went to the metal handle.
