Looking for a basic socket set that can be carried between the RV and boat and used for light repairs such as water pumps, alternators, etc. I had a Pittburg "pro" set that was fairly decent, comfortable to work with and got done everything I needed it to do. This is the set I'm looking at now junk or?

Well my sister has a hart ratchet set similar to this. Been Used to assemble furniture, bike maintenance, odds and ends. The sockets and ratchet are solid and get job done, bits are soft and don’t grip well but you can easily replace with better ones. I also don’t like how screwdriver feels in my hand but that’s personal preference

They seem like decent sockets don’t have any personal experience with them but one of my coworkers has his whole box full of stuff from Hart from hand tools and power tools and he loves them. I would say they are not the quality of the old Popular Mechanics brand that they sold many moons ago that I’m still using today but they are good for what you need them for. If it was me I’d get a Pittsburgh or Kobalt or Craftsman set. Not sure how much the Harbor Freight set is but the Craftsman and Kobalt have the $99 sets.

Then there's this one DeWalt set
Taiwan is generally a little more highly regarded than China for what it's worth I don't know where the other sets are made, this set is made in Taiwan.
I went ahead and pull the trigger on this for around the house.
Actually I'll probably keep it in the car anyways I think it's a little nicer than the first one you were looking at to be honest.
It was about $60 also.
I believe it has a lifetime warranty as well.

Well hell. I was walking through my garage today and a black case caught my eye. It was a performance tool pass through socket set. I bought that damn thing 15 years ago or better. Looks like it might serve its purpose. It includes a 3/8" adapter to use standard sockets as well. I guess if I can throw an unused set of sockets and some extensions in the bag then I'm good to go for now. That's for all the help and recommendations, but if I already have a craptastic set of sockets, I don't need two.

Before I added it to a road kit, I would make sure the sizes are correct and fit well. You don't want to be rounding something off along side the road.

It is well market on social platforms and they have been wining customers with great service..
I just got there 12-in crescent wrench all my stuff's in storage right now it's a long story but anyways it's pretty nice it seems a little sloppier than I'd like to see though between the adjuster and the Jaws.

This one here might be a little nicer it's a little more money $60 and change.
That's not a good deal. It's exactly the same as a Stanley set..they must be getting them from Stanley. But it does not carry the lifetime warranty of the Stanley set. And costs the same too.

I had a Stanley set where I used to work. It was one of those "black chrome" ones. (They seemed to like working on million dollar semiconductor test equipment with the cheapest tools they could find. It was like pulling teeth to get them to buy me decent stuff. I guess they liked paying me for three hours of time to remove a stripped screw caused by a 2 dollar harbor freight screw driver.) But actually, the Stanley set wasn't bad. I used them day in and day out. Often I'd use them on a Makita impact driver. I never broke one and they showed no signs of wear or damage. So they did their job quite well especially being used in a professional industrial setting. For home use it would have been great. I don't know how the "black chrome" sets compare to the chrome though.

I do know that Craftsman is just Stanley that you can exchange at Lowes instead of sending it in. In fact, the basic Stanley ratchets use the same kit as the low end craftsman ones. The Stanleys have a more nicely finished and polished handles but are a little thinner around where the head joins the neck. But the mechanism will break before the handle on either so I don't think that's a concern. (It looks nice but something can be said for a rougher surface when working on a greasy car)

Considering that you can buy a 60 piece set for exactly the same as Walmart, and that Stanley actually seems to be pretty decent about honoring their warranties, I'd go with the Stanley. Considering my experience with Stanley being pretty good under hard use, just like Craftsman is Stanley in a red box, maybe the DeWalt set is just Stanley in a Yellow box. (Well, I guess a lot of Stanley stuff is yellow too)

I so totally wanted to make a joke about how the Amazon basics set caused a fire the second I stuck it in an electrical outlet, but couldn't gracefully fit it in. 🤣😂🤣
