Has anyone actually seen a counterfeit tool?

I've seen Craftsman tools on the shelf at Sears recently that made me wonder if they were genuine Craftsman. Turns out they just stepped down on the quality

Stomped repeatedly would be a better description than stepped down on, if you saw the double box end wrench set I bought. However, given the extra low give-away price on them, what would you expect? Oh, and they fit much tighter than I could ever expect. They were well worth the sale price, but they are really, really poorly finished. They say made in USA, but I don't know how proud of that I am in this case.

Do you count copies as counterfeit? Every time one of Snap-on's patents run out the patented design is copied by every tool factory in China.

At the end of my time @ Sears; the last couple of years... saw a distinct down turn in the quality of Craftsman tools and the QC just went through the floor... the Danaher reps on here have acknowledged this and seem to point to the "new" Dallas foundry as the reason.... QC is their problem but I wonder if this is also a symptom of increased pressure from Sears to cut costs? What comes first the chicken or the egg; it is hard to know but as someone who stocked the floor, from boxes shipped directly off the truck.... these reduction of quality and QC control were indefensible and so blatantly obvious, there is no way to cover this up or turn a blind eye to it! Then end product speaks for itself; the quality has gone way done and it it a shame to see! 'nuff said...

Makes you wonder if in this case a counterfiet Craftsman wouldn't be a better option.

I saw some asian SO knockoffs screwdrivers a few years ago at an auction. They looked like the black hard handles in phillips and slotted tips with the hex drive on the shank just where it goes into the handle. Handles were same black matte finish and if you didn't pick them up they looked the same. The shanks may have been a little bigger diameter.

Most manufacturers of quality product do not allow authorized distributors to sell their product on Ebay. I have not seen any faked tools there on person, but I don't shop there for tools. But I have been burned on some brand name clothing and electronics. I won't use ebay anymore.

The double box end CMan wrenches I got are as forged, with no visible finishing. They are embarrassingly bad. There are gouges and flaws covering them. However, the fit of the wrench on fasteners is amazing. I would never believe that CMan made such a tight fitting wrench. I got them on a huge sale, so I'm not complaining, just commenting. Some of the other CMan products I have purchased recently have been very nice, just not these. It makes you wonder if these were made in Dallas. I know they are saving a lot of money on the finish of them. I don't think there are too many reasons to copy CMan anymore. I think SO, Mac, Matco, or one of the other big names would be more profitable. Then again, as CMan quality decreases it may be easier to copy them...
