I did it in the past on the gable ends of a covered deck that I had. I cleaned the siding and actually used a solid color stain which was the same that I used on the deck. It held up for years with no peeling. The downside is though that you need to either do touchup or do it twice depending on the weather. Siding will expand and contract, so what you stain or paint today will reveal areas that are not covered tomorrow depending on heat or cold. Cleaning the siding is the key to paint longevity.

I don't know about now, but a few years back, there used to be companies that went around and painted vinyl siding. My dads mailman had his house done and 10 years later the siding still looked great. I would imagine that there is paint specifically made for vinyl siding now.

In doing a quick search for "painting vinyl siding" it brought this to the surface http://www.vinylsidingworld.com/painting-vinyl-siding.htm There are a lot of returns on that particular search phrase that will help you out also.

If a structure has vinyl siding, have the utilities disconnected & call the Fire Dept. for a practice burn, I know it's not helpful answer, but it definitely will be a improvement.

I have painted vinyl siding a few times with great results. Make sure you use 100% acylic latex exterior paint....it dries very flexible and will expand and contract with the siding

Vinyl siding is pretty darn cheap. Replace it, most paint jobs don't stand up over time I have found.

I painted the "accessories" such as the trim kits for lights, outlets, etc. I went to Sherwin Williams and they tinted a Primer made to adhere to problem surfaces like that. Put a top coat over it, and it has lasted 9 years so far. I would do that again. My wife thought I was nuts, but I did those and things like furnace intake and exhaust pipes, and now they blend right into the scenery.

I would love to hear your explaination behind this statement. Vinyl siding is one of the best choices for low maintenance and easy installation. Care to explain why you feel that burning the whole house down is needed just because the house has vinyl siding?

Besides being ***-end-of-the-moon ugly, and not being even slightly waterproof, there's not too much problem with it.
