Has anyone painted any US General Series 1 boxes?

I’m not sure if this I the correct area to post this but….I have two of the older 44” roller boxes and a side locker that all have the horrific reddish textured finish. I would really like to paint them but it seems like a daunting task, and would the end result be worth the effort. Has anyone successfully done a rattle can color change and had it come out decent looking.

I have one of the first gen 7 drawer end units with the wrinkle finish. Have considered painting it. I would probably scuff sand it then spray a few coats of a high build primer to level it off then sand and paint. I have the 10.00 purple hf hvlp gun that sprays pretty good.

As much as I’d like to do that, I’m really trying, laugh as you may, to stay on budget with with the garage😂😂

Used to work with a guy that painted his, green I think.

Clean, scuff, clean and spray.

Mines still red. It's a toolbox, as long as it's not rusted in ok with it.

Absolutely doable, it just comes down to the finish and paint system. Poor prep with a single stage acrylic enamal that scratches easily will leave you disapointed (aka Rustoleum, Tremclad, Kryolon, etc...). Prep like you would a vehicle, shoot a two stage system and you'll be happy.
