I just received two larger former school lockers, plan to use them in my garage for storage. Has anyone ever used old school lockers in their garage and if so did you modify it and if you have pictures that would be great?

This member has - maybe he'll show up latter.

The artsy fartsy side of my brain has been cruising the internet for industrial designed antiques. Seems to be quite a few designers using old shop cabinets in there work. Most are stripped bare and use recycled lumber for tops and shelves. Went to the local used office salvage store and found old school lockers for 125 bucks per door. That's about the same as new retail. Check out new lockers here.

Lockers are commonly used for garage storage. There's an entire thread on here dedicated to repurposed metal cabinets and it features tons of school lockers.

Even old dirty ones in less than good shape sell for good money at auctions around here where I live.

There are several styles of school locker. My favorite are the 3x3 door grid style because they have lots of shelving potential built in. Your style may require more or less pending on how you intend to use them.

I've got several, but I use them horizontally, with the handle up so the door flips down. They are much more useful like this.

I have two in my garage, and two in my barn.

I place them just inside the man door. In the barn I have all my nylon tie down straps in one, shop coat and rags in another, and welding helmets and face shields.

They are much handier than open shelves IMO. With shelves you end up with project dust and crud all over everything.

We have five or six in my grandmother's double garage that the P/O left when he moved out. They are currently full of odds and ends (on my list of things to do over there is to clear them out (maybe even a fresh coat of paint, we'll see).

I have 28 lockers similar to Lakeroadster's. I built a plank shelf between the poles in the tractor shed, about 18" off the gravel floor. They rest on the shelf, and are fastened to the wall. They hold used starters and alternators, old license plates, spare auto, tractor, and bicycle parts, and whatever.
