It has been about 4 months since I put down rocksolid floor coating in my shop. All I can say is that it is amazing! The only thing I noticed is that if you put it on a little thick in an area it will tend to bubble or "fluff" up... It holds up very well against gas, oil, cleaners and even aircraft paint stripper. It's a great product.
I had epoxy installed before (quickrete brand from lowes) and I was VERY unhappy with it. It was very “brittle” compared to the rocksolid coating. Even with no clear coat the rocksolid coating is plenty shiny and after installation I have no desire to topcoat it with anything.
I bought mine through their website but you can get it at Menards for 99.99 per box. My shop is 22x22 and I needed 3 kits to cover the floor, but I also sanded my floor with a very aggressive dymabrush before coating so that may be why I needed a little more than recommended.

I just finished my garage using Rock Solid Floors and I am real happy with it so far! The floor is 56 years old and in terrible shape, but the coating made a world of difference, it hides the "imperfections" pretty well and still has a nice gloss to it even though the floor is far from smooth and done without a top coat.

I'll second what has been said here already in that, if it is applied too thick it "fluffs up" and I too had coverage issues. I ran out of product on the first go around, so I ordered enough to put a second coat over what was already done (prepping with some 80 grit) when I finished the bare area. My garage is 460 sqft., so I had ordered two kits which was supposed to cover 500, but I fell just short. I attribute this to the age of the concrete and the mechanical preparation. In retrospect, I think the second color coat instead of a top coat worked out well in restoring my shabby garage floor! I'll post up some pics once I'm done arranging everything. I have a small CNC machine, a CNC plasma table, a CNC'd 3 in 1 machine a small mill, so hopefully it holds up against slag from the plasma and coolant from the machines.......to be continued.

I too must say I love my flooring from them. I had never done a large project like this and managed to put down 1100 sqft and it came out great. It's been about 7 months now and I haven't had a single issue.

I need to get around to painting my stem, now that I think of it.

I'd stay away!! I just installed the product in my garage and did it according to the instructions to the tee. I just moved my tools back in and in the process the floors chipped and pealed away! Not to mention, the bag wasn't sealed in the box so when I took it out it spilled all over. In the process of trying to save it (I bought just enough to cover my 500 s/f garage I got it all over my hands. I'm still trying to peel it off. And I still came up about 20-30 sf short. When I called the company and explained what had happened they initially told me I would have to purchase a patch kit even though it was their error! They did change their mind and decided to send me a patch kit without charging me. I can't tell you how upsetting it is after spending all the time and money on the product that it is peeling away two days later! They always get to claim user error since its a DIY product but I can assure you I did exactly as the video instructed. Buyer beware!

How long did you wait before you moved back into the garage? I put my floor down and it is like another layer of concrete. I had a question prior to installation and I found Rock Solid to be very helpful.

We put Rock Solid down on a shop floor in October 2012. No vehicle traffic at all. This room is also heated in the winter to around 70 degrees. I was power washing it today and it lifted in several places. Not as permanent as they claim.

I know that all of us want our garage/shop floors to turn out perfect. I'm riding the fence myself trying to decide what I want to put on my 420 sq ft garage floor. I have done a ton of research as many of you have. Because there are so many variables, I have come to the conclusion that there is no perfect product to satisfy every customer.

I read GJ every day and more specifically, the garage flooring threads right now. There are so many coatings available it is difficult to make an intelligent decision for the DIY'er. I don't necessarily think it's their intention but when I read posts from product promoters like Legacy or GarageFlooring, it seems like if someone is not using their product, they are using the wrong one.

I'm curious if any of their customers have problems with their products or if every one of their customers have been completely satisfied. They tell us all the success stories but I don't recall any stories where there have been problems with customers using their product. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

If I am wrong about this, can you give some examples of some of your customers failures? Also, what action(s) you took to help the customer get the result he/she was looking for?

I've had Rocksolid in my garage for nearly two years now. It looks as good today as it did back then. There have been zero issues with mine.

I've had my rocksolid floor down for 19 months or so. It's used pretty hard, 4wd vehicles, floor jacks, boat trailers with hard and heavy nose wheels. I've not had a single issue with my floor.

I live in FL with high heat and humidity and had no issues with the install, even covering 1200sqft.

As with any floor, prep is the key. For every hour it took me to actually roll the product out, I spent 4-5 hours prepping the floor.

Good luck with your decision!

Any good product will stick to the floor for years... provided it was prepped properly.

The prep is the key... more so I think than which product you choose to put onto the floor.

Has anyone used this in a kitchen? Most of the reviews are about garages, I would like to know the outcome of inside the home

I'm trying to compare the Color System by Rocksolid floors and a product by Versatile Building Products for a garage. The VBP is a gray colored base coat, on which you spread chips until completely covered, then sweep excess off, then, later coat with one or two topcoats of either Urethane, High solids Polyurea, or "ultra" high solids Polyaspartic. They claim them all to be "hot tire and abrasion resistant". Rocksolid system does not mention hot tire resistance. It's on sale at Menards now, so I'd like to make a decision in the next 10 days. Does anyone have suggestions on which would be superior. Is the color system identical in wear, hot tire resistance, & gloss to the chip system? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Hi we at Armorpoxy sell all of these systems under one roof including solid color epoxy with partial or full broadcast flecks, Polyurea systems and metallic systems so one stop shopping. They are all a bit different, have different pricing, and how they install to some extent. Generally anything sold at a home center would not be of the same quality as systems sold by us or other GJ vendors.

Contact us directly at below for quotes or info you can’t find on our website. We have thousands of happy GJ users and offer GJ discounts and have been selling Industrial grade coatings online for 24 years.

Just sold my house and moving into the new-to-me one in a few weeks and it's got an unpainted floor and I want to do it up nice. Saw a commercial and looked around online. The metallic colors look especially cool. Just wondering if anyone has done one (or a similar product they would recommend) and how liked it. And share pictures too if you've got them.
Just a heads up. This thread was started back in 2010. The RockSolid available now is not the same as it was back then. It used to be a faster curing polyurea formula that was manufactured by Citadel. It was a fairly good coating for DIY standards, but there were complaints about it peeling. It wasn't the fault of the product. DIY installations just were not prepping the floor well enough for a product that had a shorter pot life and tended to cure pretty quickly. If the floor wasn't prepped well, it didn't have time to penetrate enough and developed adhesion problems.

As a result, they created a proprietary formula called polycuramine. It's a blend of epoxy, polyurethane, and polyurea. It has a much longer pot life, penetrates extremely well, and provides a very glossy finish. It was great for DIY applications. Shortly afterward in 2014, Rust-Oleum acquired Citadel and marketed it under the Rust-Oleum name. Rust-Oleum has even incorporated the burst pouch technology in some of its other products.

RockSolid does not perform quite the same as the old product. It's not U.V. stable and goes on thin. While it does wear well, the big complaint is cosmetic issues with applications that are too thin. This results in having to apply a second coat which doubles the original cost and makes it more expensive than commercial quality DIY coatings. We have a review of it below.

Shea is right on. If you look at this products packaging nowhere does it indicate the number of ounces of material included. If you contact the mfgr directly and ask it’s half or less of what we and others include for a same size project. Pretty packaging though.
