I do think the quality of Klein has dropped somewhat over the years. Klein tools used to cater to utilities, tradesmen and serious users. The times have changed, for a consumer of any product there are myriad alternatives (quality and pricewise) to be found online, also the expansion of Asian and overseas imports competing with domestic products is fierce. Nowadays Klein goes in many more directions and is constantly putting out "new" tools to generate attention just like Milwaukee has been doing.
To the OP I say, the devil is in the details, the ones you can see and the ones you don't. This is all evident when you compare two same Klein pliers and you realize they are not consistent in their finish, shape, or grind. Yes the pliers may still perform but that is not the point, the issue its the quality standard threshold set by the company that allows the products to roll out the door, what about the stuff you cannot see? Dropping the costs for the sake of margins to remain in operation at the sake of quality is not sustainable.
I love Klein tools a lot of their stuff is still good, but its simply not outstanding.
