Absolutely and if you tip well enough you always get hot pizza. Drives my wife nuts when I tip the pizza guy. "Thats what the delivery charge is"....

yep...very true. I delivered for Pizza Hut for a few years and the known tippers always got hot, fresh food. The known cheapskates/complainers got their food when they got it. If we were busy, it could take a while. I had the 2 strike rule. If you didn't tip 2x in a row when the food was on time (sometimes you just don't have the cash to tip-it happens) your delivery time gets longer. I didn't do anything gross to their food though.

We got paid $2.50 per delivery and we used our own vehicles. Tips were a necessary thing for survival.

For those that think all a waiter/waitress does is bring your food from the kitchen, you've never gotten good service. A good server brings the food out promptly, fresh and well timed (multi-course meals) and NEVER lets your beverage get empty. They're pleasant, know the menu/specials well and can make recommendations . If there's an error in your order or if the kitchen under/overcooked something, they know how to handle it. I also waited tables for a living and I'll be honest, I sucked at it - but I was always friendly so I still did ok with the tips. Bartenders are also well deserving of tips, a good one is anyways.

as for the HF guy, there's no special talent or skill other than lifting things that he offers so he gets no tip. He likely gets full wage anyways.

I can remember as a kid, my old man telling some one, "you wanna tip ? Save youre money, theres you tip!"

The guy was way out of line, and I mean WAY, asking once is offensive, but twice...! He needs to find a job, where he does not, and can not "beg" for a living.

I would have reported that kind of BS to the store manager.

He obviously has no idea what it's like to make a living off tips. Unless he's paid $2.13/hr, he needs to keep his mouth shut, learn some etiquette, and maybe get motivated to work towards getting a job making a decent living.

That all waitresses make here in Oklahoma. Tip for good service, my daughter is in college and $2.13 just about pays for gas, tax and she has to pay for parking.

And th HF guy should be reported, he is making at least min. wages. Like you are going to a discount store and you are going to tip.

i think i've seen more half naked women on this forum than any other forum i've frequented! i never thought i would read a thread about harbor freight and see a couple young ladies in bikinis! not complaining, just making an amusing observation.

For me this is by far the most conservative forum I am on. I really have to watch my language here, and god forbid you say anything about politics here.:headscrat

That guy had a lot of nerve asking for a tip. In my book, no one who asks for a tip gets one...least of all those who are making at least minimum wage and work in a non-tipping position. I would have had some choice words for him, and would have spoken to the manager as well.

I'm not a fan of tipping to begin with. If I do receive great service while dining out, I will tip very well. On the other hand, if I'm the only person in that section and I have to repeatedly call the waitress over for things, such as drink refills, then forget about a tip. The notion of being entitled to some arbitrary 15% tip just for showing up to work doesn't fly with me. You want a tip, earn it.

I have one place that delivers food out this way, and when I first started using them, a 40 minute wait was a 40 minute wait. The food is really good, and I don't have to take my lazy *** out of the house, so I do tip well...now when I'm told it's a 40 minute wait, it's really 15-20.

i tip single mom's-- they are called strippers.

tipping is out of hand. My friend owns a pizza shop less than 1/2 mile away form my garage. So i order a pizza. instead of picking it up like normal i have it delivered due to being busy and had a full shop of people there. was told 2 pizzas were 17+ tax. figured i'd give the guy $22. guy shows up and my bill is 22 w/o tip. im like wtf why is it so much--and he is like well tax and delivery fee etc etc...

apparently my friend the owner was off that night. i know previously when i ordered i never had a fee tacked on. I also always tipped. but a service fee to go 1/2 mile is fucked up. sure as hell was not getting a tip after i heard that.

hf guy-- for asking no way would i tip. anyone who ASKS for tip i never give them one. tips are earned, not expected.

i hate tipping. i think its ******** that we're supposed to tip at resturants.

I agree. I'd like to see the service included in the bill. But then again, I'd also like to see universal health care and the rest of it, so I'm in the wrong country for both of those things :)

I do recommend tipping the pizza guy, and more than $1. You don't want to know the things I did to people's food when I was driving pie once I figured out the address was a non-tipper. I feel bad about it, but was younger then.

That's ******* creepy dude.

Anyway, I tip the driver for delivery $3-$5. I don't know if it does anything, but I'm busy and I always get our dinner orders perfect and promptly.

I did tip for the Christmas tree. I didn't mind, but I thought it was a bit ********. Maybe it was the $5 ************* wood cross on the bottom of the tree. That the guy said, oh yeah, that's $5 extra for that. I was going to have him take it off on principle, but I don't get worked up over stuff like that (as far as I know :) ), and just enjoyed being with my children getting a tree.

For me, it's not so much a politically conservative forum. It's just a lot of middle-American values. Or at least a lot of guys here purport to have them. It was a very eye opening experience for me, when I first got here. I'm on very few forums and I guess in some ways I'm very insular.

I'm not used to it to all this farmer, middle America, pick up truck, guns, NASCAR ****. But to get along, go along....

It's been a good experience. But I don't think they could handle the neighbors on my street.:shocking:

I'm fairly cheap, and target good service at 10%, and do all in my power to stop tipping from creeping in to new areas of service. My sister is the opposite, and a 20% or 30% tip from her isn't unusual. When we go to one of her regular dining places you would not freaking believe the service we get, its like their long lost mother has walked in.

I would have told the kid, as I carefully loaded my own stuff, Gee this is new to me, lets go talk to your manager so I can figure out a proper tip.

Now how about tipping a tow truck driver?

I have never minded tipping someone for doing an excellant job and will be generous with the tip. The thing that pisses me off to know end is automaticly added gratuity. Any place that adds it to the bill automaticly I refuse to pay. Then when the dust settles I'll tip the waiter/waitress accordingly. I don't let my beef with managment get in the way of tipping of the waitstaff.

A friend of mine always tips at restaurants for either good or bad service. For good service he leaves around 15% on the table. For bad service he leaves two pennies. That shows he did not forget the tip but that's all the service was worth.

It burns me to see a tip jar at every store you goto these days and for what just ringing the darn sale? Are you kidding me? Our local Dunkin Donuts which I used to frequent had a jar out, and you got snide looks if you didn't put your change in it. Well I guess the management got tired of the phone calls because it was gone after few weeks later.

I just don't frequent it anymore, as far as tipping goes if the service warrants it then yes tip at your whim but it should not be expected.

I gave a bell hop in Vegas a 10 dollar tip for 3 bags last year. He looked at me and said if that's all you can afford.....you don't need to be here. I said you're right, give me that 10 back, and I reached in my pocket and gave him 2 dollars. He asked me "what's this about?".....I said......a slot machine downstairs needs it more than you do!!! He was pissed!

Tipping to me is like my feeling toward giving to charity, I will give where the tip is earned, or charity is deserving and worthwhile, and I am not TOLD I HAVE TO do so.

When I worked @ Sears; the corporate "ethics" training was about NOT receiving or taking tips, gifts, or anything from anyone... customers, vendors, etc. At times I would meet the customer in the parking lot; check something out to see if a tool fit etc.; many times tried to give me a tip.... being fired on the spot wasn't worth whatever they were trying to give me. I always said; "contrary to popular belief, thats why we are here... customer service!" Always tried to help the best I could with my own brand of humor! :) Sears was notorious for poor service; so, I tried to buck the trend and enjoyed helping people out.... they had a high standard, I just did my job and didn't worry about it... whatever little money I would have gotten, wasn't worth losing my job over! :) There were times that I though it was kinda bizarre when all this pressure was put on us to hit certain numbers for the "store" to do well.... we never saw any of the "profit sharing" that the store manager saw or the trips they would get at the conventions or special award events.... occasionally, they would have a pizza party or something. The store manager would get all excited about the numbers; this directly related to her bonuses.... it did not benefit us! On the other hand; if your in this situation... to a degree you have chosen to do that job and deal with the accepted wage or financial situation that is there! Use the situation to motivate yourself to improve your wage and move on! :) We had allot of employees who stole things; thinking they were getting back @ corporate or "making more money" they always ended up getting fired.... its just not worth it! :)

You could shoot an email to HF corp. Ask thier policy on tipping. I'd bet that it's "no tip" as most retailers do.

Tipping is easy - if they ask for one, they don't get one.

It's a huge pet peeve of mine when a waiter/waitress asks me "If I need change" when I hand them cash to settle the bill. That's BS. Just bring me my change. If you're SMART, you'll provide the change in a format (ie $1 bills) that will make it easy for me to leave you gratuity.

I would have told him we need to go inside and ask the manager what the tipping policy is because I'm only familiar with it at restaurants. As far as restaurants and tipping you get 10% when I walk in the door. It goes up or down from there based on your service.

Here's a tip... ask for one & you will never get one. Don't ask, give fantastic service & you might!

I would have just looked at him for a bit longer than normal, said nothing, then walked into the store & asked to see the manager. Then asking the manager, in a very upset tone, why they didn't pay there staff a normal rate so that didn't have to ask customers like me for a tip like this poor fellow had to.

The only time I've tipped a non food server was at a junkyard when the HyLift operator set a car body on my trailer without a scratch to either.

I cannot imagine HF not paying their US employees so little that they need to ask for tips.

I have a hard time justifying a tip for a barber. I go to the generic Great Clips, Super Cuts etc. I doubt it takes more than 10 mins. and they charge around $14.00 bucks. Starbucks (wife drinks 'em) same thing, big jar on the counter trolling for tips. I wouldn't even put HF on the consideration list.

I had that happen at the self-serve "restaurant" at McCormick Place during a trade show. The grumpy woman who was manning the cash register actually suggested a tip - on top of the $8 slice of pizza and $4 coke. Sorry, but what service did she provide?

And don't get me started on Starbucks. Once they got rid of real espresso machines and went to the full autos, a chimp could make a drink there. I tip *real* baristas well but not the frauds at Charbucks.

That being said, the bartenders at my local get treated well.

Now that depends on the reason for the tow...
Breakdown, or illegally parked? :lol_hitti
