i figured out a 36" fence stretcher will fit those plastic garbage cans perfectly, it'll center itself on your ball hitch too. works pretty good. now i'll end up using this fence stretcher once a week instead of once every couple years.. if you have a long driveway you probably have one of these lying around anyways..

800 feet to the end of my driveway and then another 500 on a dirt road to the trash drop off point. it works, it won't fall off. don't tell my neighbors i enjoy watching them drag their trash cans into the back of their pickups LOL

I put them in the bucket of my tractor. I'm not lazy - mine is only about 650' but I am 6'5" and I find they're way too short for me, so I end up bending down the whole time to move them otherwise. :)

I have the exact same trash cans--I simply use my receiver style trailer hitch ball. I tip the can--placing the can handle on over the hitch ball and it works great! It lays over enough to place most of the weight over the hitch so it will not fall off. My wife even likes this set up enough to confidently travel down our 400' long stone lane. Never failed us yet! And if you are worried about it, just use a short bungee cord to ensure it won't come loose!

I'd rig up wooden frame on tailgate after you take off the cables to hold up tailgate. With the angle of the dropped tailgate, the trash cans would barely need to be off the ground. Thus, hardly any lifting.

Where I used to work there was a small house that was rented out on the same property.

It had about a 150' driveway.

The tenant used to open the door of her mid-80's K-car and drag the garbage to and from the curb.

Because of their laziness, they were forced to buy a new garbage can about every other month.

Don't be those people!

Wow, 1300 feet!
I have a 40 foot long driveway and still don't like dragging the cans to the curb every week. I can't imagine taking my trash cans for a quarter mile drive.

Cool idea!

I have been just hefting my trash cans into the back of my pickup. Driveway is ~300ft long and up a steep hill.

This would work great for the back of the golf cart. Gonna have to build myself one.

I put them in the bucket on the tractor. I do it because I am lazy. Driveway is about 1000'. Keith

Yup! Been doing it like that for 24 years with the same tractor.

I do the same, 1,300 ft long gravel drive, always just hook it over the trailer ball, the weight of the can keeps it on there. Been doing it for years and have yet to have it fall off, or wear out the wheels. I just typically keep it under 10mph.

Otherwise I just ride the fourwheeler, drive with one hand and hold onto the can with the other.

I do this with my golf cart...but I just hold the can out to the side and pull it with my hand?!? Takes a little practice balancing it, but it works fine if you pay attention.

I've never had one that was so heavy I couldn't do this......even full of construction **** that was so heavy I worried the truck wouldn't/couldn't pick it up.

1800' from garage to mailbox/curb. My wife said we can walk them down. We now have a mule and load them up. We still walk the driveway once a day just don't haul the cans. I've been wanting to build a little trailer that the cans can stay on.

That's a good idea but I hope you don't wear out the wheels on those cans prematurely.

Why not just replace the wheels with a pair of these?

For those of you just hooking them over the hitch ball..
Be sure to remember it is there.
Years ago, while doing the rubber banding between stop lights on my morning commute
I came up behind a PU with a garbage can still on the hitch ball.
At 50 MPH.
The wheels were a bit tore up.
The guy next to him at the next light put down his window and told him about it.

I've done the over the hitch thing, didn't really like it. It fell off some times, and ultimately messed up the paint on the tailgate. The lid would open and rub it. Tried same thing on the ATV, and melted a hole in the lid on the exhaust. Started using a trailer behind the ATV and now mostly use the front end loader on the tractor. Sometimes I mix it up and just drag them out or back by hand. With a 1/3 mile driveway, when the cans are heavy or the weather is bad, I get lazy and want something to move them for me.

I used to just use my little JD tractor with a set of forks to pick the same cans up and run them up and down my 200' driveway (uphill both ways!)

That was before I moved out to a larger parcel and brought in a dumpster...

If you have a pickup - Take 2 36" bungee cords, connect them holes in the vertical tailgate pillars, hang them over the closed tailgate, hook to handle of can. Works great and is adjustable.
