Front or side entry? Two doors aren't bad with front entry, but it can be tight with an suv or boat. On the side a double is better depending on the amount of room you have to turn. With two you also have double the maintenance and the cost of 2 door openers vs. one.

I like one big door. It gives me the option of putting a car in the middle for a "special project". It also provides more room for a trailer, boat or whatever else you haven't thought of yet. I don't see the scenario in which two doors would be better. I get the feeling you're going to get a bunch of different votes on this, and ultimately just have to go with your own instincts.

Like i said..the garage is detach and will be 22 x 30 or 24 x 30

The door will be on the front side..the 22 or 24 feet

The reason i want one big door is like trovato said..if i want to put a car in the middle to work on...

it's a 18X8 or two 9x8

At this time i'm more on the side of one big door...

But when it willl be time to heat the place..cause in quebec...the winter is freezing...one big door can let go a lot of heat

thanks for your answer

I'd go for the 24' wide and the single door. Just be sure to get an insulated door and you should be OK. The newer doors aren't like the old plywood ones that let out tons of heat etc. I went with a single door because I grew up with one and it makes you have to worry less about smacking that middle pole.

A single 18' door reduces the number of side view mirrors your girlfriend can shear off her car by half compared to having two doors with a post inbetween them.

I think I lose more heat from air leaks around the edges than I do through the door itself. One door actually has fewer edges to leak. Of course, if you open the door, heat goes out in a hurry either way. One thing that helps in that department, is having another entry door, rather than having to open the garage door each time you come in or out.

you need to base on 4 foot incliment, you still have to buy the full sheet of plywood so might as well used it.

I agree. I bought the 10 X 8 doors. The 16' door lets ALL the heat out in a nano-second in January. It does get cold in Quebeck, right?

Invest in the best steel insulated doors you can find even if it delays the drywall. There is a big range of quality in doors. You may not say how nice the good doors are everytime you open them but you will cuss the cheap POS's down the road. I have both and there is a world of difference.

Bonjour Franck, bienvenue au 'Journal du Garage'.

I have a 16' wide door in my 22' X 24' garage and it'll **** that warm air right out, in about half a second... :(

When it's time to replace it, I'll probably split that opening and go with 2 doors.

Just my 2 cent's worth...
