Neat but I would need to sharpen a TON of mowers to justify $500 for it!

most reel mowers like at golf courses etc, they are smeered with lapping compound and the foot plate is tightened and they grind themselves sharper, this tool could be for a push type mower or ?? neat find though.

I used one like that when I was a teenager 50 years ago. They did a good job of sharpening the reel and then you lapped the reel and lower blade together to get them to cut like a pair of snips

That machine is well worth the $500 if you have a need for it. I use reel mowers on my lawn. That machine will properly sharpen a reel blade.
Most dealers just back lap the reels to keep them sharp, but that only works for a few sharpenings. Later you will require a proper relief cut to maintain reel/blade sharpness.

I remember as a kid back in the 50's a man would drive the neighborhoods & sharpen reel mowers on the spot in the back of his box truck. One of those memories that always stuck with me....good times.

I was given a push model new in the box from the Ol' Lady's grandma. I always like playing with them growing up so I gladly accepted it. It was made in the last 10 years and is still in production. The manufacturer slips my mind at the moment.
After reading some of the instructions, I came across the sharpening section. It stated that to sharpen this particular mower, you would remove a wheel and insert the hex axle stub into a drill chuck. You would rotate the blade drum in reverse with the drill at a slow speed until the blade edges were back to proper sharpness. I assume this is back lapping as mentioned above?

My crappy modern troy built reel mower instructions say to just use lapping compound to sharpen it. I doubt the wheels and mechanism would work more than 2 or 3 seasons...1 light season and the top guard fell off and the wheels are all wibbly wobbly. Alas it won't get more use since I just moved up to 1.5 acres.
