have i brought fake snap on pry bars?

hi, just signed up as you all seem to know alot about tools so hopefully you can help me. i have brought a set of snapon hard handle pry bars of ebay (wish i hadnt) they seem real enough correct packaging etc but i suspect thay are very very good fakes as the ends of the two smaller ones are not square, they have been ground at an angle. is this a) poor quality from snapon, b) how they should be, or c) they are fakes and badly finished. if they are real then they are nowhere near the quality of my old ones even the striking cap is not fitted central it is over to one side on two of them.

I got one that wasn't super neat. I just took it to the belt sander and made the angle correct.

Some of Snap-on's stuff is not made by Snap-on. And some of their stuff is kinda lacking in quality, screwdrivers being one of them (or at least that's what I hear others complain about the most). But 95% of it is good stuff.

Had the very same issue with a set on offer from the Snap On van. I don't buy too much Snap On as it was to go into a communal toolbox but I am wary about buying cheap pry bars. 2 out of the set of 3 were not ground square. The guy changed the smallest straight off as it was too bad to live with but I was expecting better from a premium priced product.

got some pics, was actialy hard to show the angle in a picture so this may not be very helpful but here they are. i know its a pry bar and will be beaten and abused by nature so i shouldnt care but the set cost more than my current car (seriously haha) i expected better to be honest, i have learnt a valuable lesson about cheap (still not very cheap) snapon though i guess.

ah yea they where new when i got them, came in tray in box with plastic on, its me that has used them, to start with i decided not to care and just get on and use them and they seem fine tbh, but then it was in the back of my mind if this was normal or not, from the other posts i dont think i have anything to worry about though,

Does the seller have other tools or snap on stuff up for auction? What's his rating? Look in his feedback. Has he sold other sets of these pry bars before? There may be clues within the feedback if others felt they were ripped off as well.

Let me say first that I am a BIG Snap-on fan.
But NO tool manufacturer is perfect.
And sometimes you DO have to resort to other brands for one reason or another.

Snap On tools that aren't square, straight, or smooth out of the box. with glaring imperfections that you wouldn't see on cheaper brands? That would NNNNNEEEEVER happen. Those are most certainly fakes.

they where from a US seller, i wanted a green set as other guys at work have red and orange and it stops getting peoples stuff mixed up either by acident or on purpose, i couldnt find any in green in the uk at that time so i brought from us and waited paitently, the following week 3 sets poped up in uk typical hu!, i have since found a new snap dealer locally and will not be buying from ebay again, i only did this time as i didnt realise you could still buy the hard handle type of the van as last guy only had the new type. new guys prices are great and turns out he can still get lots of the apparently discontinued lines.

Oh right. I was looking at a new green pair that was £80 but they vanished, i should've bought them.

Would be interested to see if your dealer can still get the old style ones. My dealer reckons they're all gone and he can't get more.

got this of his van a week or so ago, so id be suprised if your guy cant get them, my guys name is Adam Gardner i can find his contact details if it would be usefull. he was doing them a bit cheaper than this or giving the option of bits n pieces equal to vat cost. was a very good deal realy compared to ebay as you will have all advantages of using the van, uasier to warnty etc,

this was my first thought, i cant belive it would make any sense financialy but just thought id get a few other peoples opinions, i have however seen fake snapon extensions (confirmed by snapon). its a bit like fake pound coins (there are loads in the uk like 1 in 4 are fake), notes (even £5) get found too easily as they are higher value and people care but who ever checks coins?.

im pritty sure thay are real though.

There are quite a few fake Snap-On tools showing up, they are being made in china, India and Russia. There has even been a couple of Snap-On dealers that were busted selling them. Most are easy to spot if you really look at them, poor finish, incorrect contours, and incorrect features. I saw screw drivers, ratcheting screen drivers, wrenches, sockets and a.set of prybars. The engraving was incorrect both in size and font, and the part numbers were to short, and no USA markings. A buddy bought a set of ratchets two weeks ago off of a dealer that were fakes, now the dealer is in hot water with Snap-on.
