Having a next door neighboor being a gearhead

Does anyone else have a neighbor that's a gearhead? I've been very fortunate to have grow up in the neighborhood and to have my next door neighbor as a gear head. My Dad collects and restore cars. He has an 05 Chevy Corvette and 79 Dodge Lil Red Express truck. My next door neighbor collects and restores farm tractors. He has John Deere's and a Massey Harris. He also has a mid 70s Jeep Wrangler There's been times when my Dad or the neighbor had to borrow a particular tool that one or the other person did not have. The neighbor is testing out stuff and same with my Dad.

Down the street there's another car collector who has a Chevy C6 Corvette. The next street over there are 4 car collector neighbors as well. The one has a late 60s Chevy Camaro. The person that lives next to him has a Ford Tudor. Down the street from there is a BMW Z4. The last one is a 80s Mercadez Benz Convertible.

That'd be pretty cool. I have no gear heads around me aside from a kid who works on multiple honda civics. My next door neighbor bought a 70's corvette to mess with a couple of years ago, but he hasn't touched it since he bought it.

All garages must be at least 3 car and have min 10' ceilings.

Garage sq footage can not be more than 2x the house.

Detached garages must 'sort of look like' your house.

No engine revving after midnight.

Any non-running vehicle on the driveway or street must be covered unless it's being worked on.

Toy haulers must be kept clean and presentable.

No parking of project cars or toy haulers in front of your neighbors house.

Test burn out's only in designated areas and at designated times.

5. Fit wives must wash at least one car per week out the front of the house in a bikini or short shorts. Subcontracting of this duty is allowed.

6. Community to be surrounded by a 2 mile test track with dedicated burnout pad. A forest dirt course is also provided.

in my smallish neighborhood, theres a few "gearheads" around.

one with a couple of late 60's roadrunners, and another that did run a prostock drag car. both places are neat and tidy

unfortunately i have 2 close neighbors that are more like sanford and son..

never see anything being worked on, just more junk piling up

The guy around the corner from me is into old {'46-'52} Mopars like I am. The couple across the street from me has his boat, his and hers Harleys, '69 'Vette, '70 El Camino, and a Honda 2000s sports car. I also have a neighbor who races vintage modifieds and hobby stocks. When I first fired up my Chrysler with the 354 hemi and no exhaust{yet} All the neighbor guys came out of their houses smiling.
I do like the "gearhead-hoa" rules though.

When I was searching for my first house to buy I had it narrowed down to 2 houses. Drove by one last time to look at both. The neighbor had a local asphalt circle track car on a trailer in his driveway. That wouldn't have made me buy a subpar house, but couldn't decide so ended up buying that one. He was a good guy and turned out we had several mutual friends.

My current house has several gearheads within a block or two. We borrow tools from each other from time to time. Its nice when you need a carburetor to walk down the street to a guy who has 3 extras in his kitchen.

I swore I would never own a house in an HOA. Right up until my wife found "the perfect house"...

I'm actually in an HOA now but fortunately the last "problem" neighbor just moved out after she had to short sell her house. Everyone else is pretty reasonable and as long as I don't leave something on the street it's all good. I've had a parts car sitting in my driveway for the last 2 months and nobody has said a word. I am polite enough to keep it under a car cover and it helps that I have a 100' long side drive and can park 10 cars off the street.

I have allways been the Gearhead neighbor! There was lotts of us in the town I'm from,(Oak Lawn Il.) suburbs of Chicago. We would stop by other guys shop/garage from time to time help out, see what's new, or just have a beer and do some bench racing. Don't get me wrong I love living in DA UP EH but I miss the commaraderie, just seems like that doesn't happen up here.

Turns out he was mounting a plow on his truck and we were do for 30" of snow the next day. Grabbed my coveralls and headed over. We got it done about 11 or so, went home. Woke up to 2 feet of snow the next morning and my driveway had been plowed. Since then we have worked on many projects together, and even though I have moved out of the hod, our phone calls always start with "Howdy neighbor". Good friend. Only guy I ever gave open access to my garage and tools, and he returned the favor.

Believe me not all subs have a dufus HOA, it takes very little skill to tell the realtor, no HOA or no sale. Was the first question out of my mouth before we went looking. She started to tell me all the advantages and I started walking, she got the idea.

I'm not in a HOA but I am surrounded by retired school teachers all widowed or divorced. Not another gearhead in the small neighborhood. Where I used to live gearheads all around me. I just cant be as noisy as want to be.

I'm like Hghgrad, everyone within 4 houses come to me for tools, advice, and to fill a bicycle tire or two every now and again. I saw a great tip, on a blog the other day..... if neighbors borrow a tool, take a picture of them holding the tool on your cell phone and delete it when they return it.
I would like to have a handy neighbor to get ideas and such...I suppose being on the GJ is like you all are my neighbors...it's cool.
I just can walk over and enjoy that car party in the garage....

DDAWG, I'm lovin the Gear Head HOA idea. I've always thought that a condo complex that was oriented towards motor heads would be cool. Similar rules as you proposed. Maybe a comunity shop / vehicle storage area. I would be all over that in a heartbeat if such a thing existed.

On a similar note, my dad is retired and lives in a pretty suite Del Webb retirement comunity. Gated. Nice modern houses. They have tons of activities for all of the retired fokls to keep them busy, if they choose. AFAIK, there is not anything related to vehicles, BUT they do have an incredable wood working shop with TONS of really nice machinery. I couldn't believe it when i was there and he gave me tour.

well I have a neighbor that is a crackhead that thinks he is a gearhead.

Takes stuff apart, and then catches me outside and yells out
"hey can I pick your brain for a minute"

I used to help him but he has become the problem child in the neighborhood and makes it his mission to piss people off, so I just avoid him, sometimes I have to call the cops when he and the girl that lives there start beating the piss out of one another in the front yard at 10 oclock at night. She usually wins. Last time they both got locked up.

So for those of you with good ones living beside you .... count you blessings.

NES - if your dad is in the neighborhood I believe I have seen his mint lil red pick up. Not many around let alone clean ones. I usually go to lumes and that's where I saw it last.

I live on a private road at the dead end. 4 car garage and it's full. Luckily my only neighbor is a gear head as well since I just picked up another project car

I HATE THE IDEA OF HOA. Unless they are paying the bill then they need to STFU. When we were looking for a house in the country, our realtor showed us a couple houses in a nice neighborhood. The second house wife said it was "HOME". Meaning, I'm screwed. Ended up with almost 2 acres but no garage/shop. Neighbor on one side grew up in our house, and he has a few cars he plays with. He is also a gunsmith, so that is a good score. Have a new neighbor across the street that added on to the detached garage and installed a lift, can use it when I need. Another guy down the street with a detached garage out back with a lift and told me to come on down when I need. So we have a few gearheads in the neighborhood and a few gun guys also.

Where do I sign up?

My neighbour on one side is into his Minis (proper ones, not the BMW ones) and also has a Frogeye (Bugeye to you guys). Guy across the road has an old 60s BMC Farina saloon.

I was putting a plow truck together for myself one time, got the clutch and ****** in and got all the bolts started and had to leave it to go to work. I got home around 6 that night and he was under my plow truck just finishing installing the drive shaft. We have worked on probably a dozen projects, his shop was heated and mine wasn't when my daughter's car alternator crapped out, and I had my arm in a sling from surgery. He and I leaned on the bench and swapped stories while my daughter changed her alternator in his nice warm shop.
