By being two pieces, does the Hazet 916Lg cause you to lose torque, like how sliding a pipe over a breaker bar isn't quite the same as just using a larger breaker bar? I.e. am I better off getting a couple of breaker bars in different lengths, or is that ratchet just a more efficient way to get a variety of lengths all in one tool?

No it doesn't.
there is virtually no play between the two pieces, by tightening the locknut in the middle any minimal play is lost.
It feels like a one piece ratchet.

My issue with the Dual 80 on a breaker bar is Snap On is only willing to say a minimum of 250lb-ft of "ultimate strength." The Hazet is rated to 442.5lb-ft, and I like the adjustable length between ~16" to 24", for when I don't always have all the room I'd like.

I have one and it's amazing bit of kit.

As y20dth said, 916Lg feels like a single, solid piece when tightened. My only gripe with it is handle. It is oval shape and I have to align it with the head every time so I could have more comfortable grip. I wish they just did it round!
