Maybe this is more a off topic forum thread but has you HD done a complete reset of checkout lanes .

I don't shop at HD much....
They are in the process of tweaking the Tool Corrall. Not sure what...but everything is empty bare or in the process of moving/shuffling

The checkout line...is the point of this thread. What used to be individual checkout lines...is now a corral type.
One opening with a long 20 ft walk, then a 90, then another long opening, then a 90 and then you reach the checkout table where it's all multiple registers along a single table.....with like 4 employees. One to point you to a register, and the other 3 I suppose doing checkouts for large material goods. It was almost as bad as being in a amusement park line. Not sure what CORP was thinking...but the new layout is terrible.

All registers have new fancy pants screens showing it's capturing your face, so maybe it's going the way of Walmart and it knows you in every store :dunno:

Slows down our favorite folks who bolt for the door, with cartloads of merchandise to steal? :dunno:

Zen. OMG. That's gotta be it and it was not even on my radar.
I was just blown away how annoying one had to walk 20-25 feet, then make a turn, then another 20-25 feet, then make a turn .....and then finally registers. I can't even imagine how it is on the weekend or holidays and what not

Guessing this is starting in high theft stores as i haven't seen it here yet or heard about from any folks working at the SSC.

I haven't seen this at the stores I usually shop at but I stopped by one near work on Monday and they had this. They also had two uniformed police around the front of the store and more locked shelves than I usually see. I'm guessing this is being done in higher crime areas.

Have not seen it at my local HD but I do notice more control of what entrances and exits are used and entrances are treated as such and exits are treated as such with no “blending” between the two, which is new in a retail environment to see that implemented.

I really dislike HD (it is dimly lit, dirty floors, etc) and much prefer Lowe’s, the good lighting, and white floors.

Why would theft be a problem? Doesn't Batman keep 'em in line?

My HD has a single line feeding a number of manned/un-manned but monitored checkouts. Seems pretty efficient to me and it usually moves faster than expected.
