HD Extreme Coin & Flow Through Garage Floor Project

Hey all, first time poster here. I've been working on cleaning up my garage and finally got around to ordering and installing the floor. I was originally going to go with a combo of HD Coin and Flow Through, but just when I was about ready to order, Justin from GarageFlooringLLC posted about the new Extreme Coin tiles, so I went ahead and used those instead. I have 400 tiles total.

I still need to do the pieces around the edges, I have to cut them, so I'll be working on that over the next few days. Overall, I am happy with the combination. The pattern on the coin does allow stuff to roll very easily, and I like the little texture pattern to give it more of a matte finish. I took one close up to better show the texture. The colors are blue for the flow through, Silver (Alloy) for the lighter of the Coin and Gray (Graphite) for the darker of the coin and some of the flow through.

All solid tiles have some spacing built into them. You get away with a little more on the vented tiles. We can send you a couple to look at. You have to allow for expansion and contraction and variations in the floor

I did get a sample (1 piece) of the alloy silver coin and liked the appearance better than any other hard plastic tile. I almost was ready to order until I saw the pictures in this post. I understand the expansion/contraction issue but the HD extreme seems to have a much larger gap between tiles than the RaceDeck samples I am looking at. These two tile brands even snap together like they are using the same locking feature at the same spacing. I measure at most a 0.015" gap with the RaceDeck tiles while the HD extreme gap measures in a double that value (0.031"). Both were measured at the same ambient conditions. Doesn't sound like a big gap but if something gets spilled or when sweeping it will definitely end up between the tiles and beneath the solid floor. Vented/FreeFlow tiles are not an option for me. I know I may be over analyzing this but at least with a bare concrete floor I have time to clean up a spill before it spreads too much.

Since I have a mix of both free flow and these HD Extreme tiles, gaps to the floor below are not really an issue for me, but there is definitely more of a gap on the HD Extreme vs the free flow alone. I had also gotten samples of the regular HD tiles before the extreme ones came out, and while there is still a gap, there is slightly less gap. From pictures of the solid Racedeck, it does look like Racedeck solid tiles are a lot closer - but they are also a bit more $, so they may just maintain a bit tighter goals on that measurement.

Also note that the pics I took were probably at an ambient of about 70 with complete shade, so I'm not sure what this is going to look like when the garage is closer to its max summer temp of 100, but I'd assume some of those gaps get closer.

On another note, it was a rainy weekend and I got to walk on the Extreme tiles with wet shoes and traction was good, so it seems like the texture is pretty good to have for function in addition to just making them look good.

I also noticed that they seem to have more of a crown in them than RaceDeck which I would have to believe would flex under weight application and give more of a plastic clack when stepping on them. Maybe they lay flatter when there are more tiles hooked together? I was definitely sold on them until I noted the gap issue. I haven't completely eliminated them from my list but I will look at other options.

Here is RaceDeck Coin (which I sell) Next to the new s,all coin. Solid tile vs solid tile. Two different angles. Solid tiles and vented tiles are just different. If you look at the edge of a vented tile you will understand why. These two locks are close enough that eery time I look at it I have a different opinion and, like all tiles they vary some based on where they sit on my floor.

My floor concrete is old and not in the best shape so its not exactly "flat", but I didn't notice any crowning issues with the tiles. There are a few dips in my floor where obviously there is some airspace under a tile or two, but thats the floor not the tile. Also, I noticed that one you start connecting a large number of these, the movement of the joints goes away, since they are all pulling on each other to stabilize vs just looking at a sample connection of 2 or 4 of them.

Those side by sides with the racedeck do show how good the Extreme coin with the texture look. The surface finish really is awesome on these, I really like the matte type finish the texture gives them. Another plus side with the texture is that even flat objects slide really easily - no wheels required!

I also got my cabinets installed, really enjoying having the floor so far, and the recent rain has made me happy I chose the free flow for under the car tires.
