HD Scan Tools

I am looking for a new Scan Tool to replace my old broken one. I had an OTC 3418. I need a Heavy duty scan tool class 4-8. I would like one that does ob2 as well but not a must if I could get some recommendations from some truck guys that would be great. I was looking at the OTC 3417 but I can't find any reviews it looks like and upgrade from my old one.

We have a Nexiq (Snap-on) machine at work. Very easy user interface . Uses touch-screen. Updates and software is done over the internet. I don't have any experience with any other HD scanners though so I can't give a comparison. (It also does OBD II)

the 3418 does HD Standard, which is a lot like OBDII for cars. Any HD scanner that you buy will do pretty much the same thing. The Snap-on/Nexiq Pocket iQ is a direct replacement for that, but if you need something to go a bit deeper, your choices are limited. You can look into a Snap-on/Nexiq iQ, which does a bunch of OEM style scanning. Or you could buy a laptop and subscriptions to the OEM Software that you need.

We bought the nexiq it works alright but I guess I expected more for $14,000. I thought I would be able to do more with parameters than it does. Snap ons reps for our area. They have special guys just for scan tools. He is no help and knows basicly nothing for the machine he just the flyer to me. If I was to do it again I would have just bought all the factory setups.

I went through this dilemma a couple months ago. From what i have found your options are this. Nexiq, OTC, OEM. Which really ***** but its what we HD guys have to deal with.
