Head support while working under a vehicle

Frequently I need to support my head while working underneath a vehicle. One of my creepers has an adjustable head lift but it doesn’t go high enough. I recently used an empty jug of washer fluid and it was actually pretty comfortable but hard to position. I have tried a small firm pillow, but that didn’t work that good. Another option is to mod my creeper to make the headrest bigger and higher. Has anyone come up with a better headrest solution?

I use a firm throw pillow from the thrift store. It does double duty as padding while transporting stuff in the pickup.

Cutting yourself a 12" long section of pool noodle might work well. They come in several diameters and can be purchased with or without a hole down the center. Last time I was at my local dollar store they had pool noodles for sale, so it could be a very cheap solution if it works well for your situation.

The cheaper medium grey foam water pipe inulation noodles might work as well (the slightly more expensive black foam type would squish flat under your head's weight so don't use one of those). It's the same thing as a pool noodle except it has the slit down the length for wrapping it around a pipe and sticking it to itself.

Another option that popped into my head was a small squishy boat fender.

Lastly, a squishy foam kneepad like the ones they sell for gardeners. The ones that feel like a dense memory foam. The nicer ones are often coated with a thin vinyl dip that makes them very easy to keep clean.

Pool noodles are multi-purpose tools. They make great sanding blocks for concave surfaces on cars. Use them all the time. I too think they would make a decent head rest.

How about one of the inflatable neck pillows that you use in the car on long trips? Inflate that and position under your head? Add a couple of towels for some extra height?
Tried that; didn't work that well. Need support under my head.

I worked with an old mechanic who had screwed a piece of aluminum 2"x2" square tube under the rectangular "pillow" that came on his creeper. Worked for him, but I would think it would need to be adjustable to be really useful.

Hey Tools4Me, the boat fender looks really good. Just attach with a bungee. Very comfortable and wide so if I roll my head I still have good support. I just rebuilt the white creeper; it was an old Montgomery Wards creeper that the thin plywood disintegrated. I use it as my tool carrier when I go underneath.Creeper with Boat Bumper.jpg
