I'm about 30 minutes south of you as the crow flies. We do however own a vacation house on the east end of Bass Lake also. We're neighbors....sort of and my first name is Jason as well

I have been kicking around an idea for a rack much similar to this for a couple years now. I have seen the bars on top of the bed rails and I really like them, but yours is one of the best I have seen. Great Job

Not really. Other than the specs I listed on the first page of this thread. I've built other racks for buddies and every time, they want different things. I will add that the uprights on the headache rack are cut to 15 degrees to match the cab of my 2016 Ram.

I have been kicking around an idea for a rack much similar to this for a couple years now. I have seen the bars on top of the bed rails and I really like them, but yours is one of the best I have seen. Great Job

Thank you. I use solid 1" solid rod for the rails. A person could use DOM 1" tube as another GJ user has suggested. But in my parts, DOM tubing is rare and very expensive, hence why I use the hot rolled 1" solid.

I got the grade for the took box tacked up last night when I noticed something didn't look right. A tape measure confirmed my thoughts. The rack was almost a full 3/4" off from one side to the other. No one would notice but be, but I can't stand it. I cut the tacks from the 1" rails and removed them, and then loaded up a fresh cutting disc and cut the whole damn rack off :eye crazy:



After a tedious round of grinding and sanding, I was once again squaring the rack to the angle iron and re-welding it back in place. When I first tacked it, I had it sitting on the truck and I used the eyeball method...... didn't work out for me so well

we have a saying here on the farm, "it looks nice cause we do it twice". you're not alone on this one!

I can gather from the original page no problem. I just went back and reread it all. lots of details to jot down.
2 questions:
1) do you think I could fit a tonneau inside the rails? I have a low profile tonneau that mounts to the inside underlip of the bed.
2) I didn't see any weight. curious if you put it on a scale?

Looks good, I have built a couple now too. I haul a fourwheeler around to check fields and irrigation. This is the one I built for my new f350 this spring.

Great look headache racks fella's.

CCMAC - I was so close to using louvers instead of expanded metal. I built a flatbed last year for a buddy that wanted louvers. I liked the look. Next time.........
