Headed to Germany next month - TOOLS?

I'm headed to Germany next month for work. Why not make good use of the trip and bring home some tools?

The first thing I'm curious about is...is it going to be any cheaper to buy European tools locally vs. just buying them here?

I was hoping to find...
1. A large metric drill bit set
2. Knipex pliers
3. Facom Lock Grip Pliers

Any other suggestions? Bad idea?

Only one rule...I have to be able to get them back in a suitcase.

Not really any cheaper and not easy to find. Tax is not your friend. Stick to the cigars and beer. There I can have some good recommendations!

You should be able to apply for a refund of the VAT (used to be 15%, but that was years ago) if you export the tools from Germany. Watch out for the limit you can bring back through US customs, though.

Not sure if this applies or even applies to Germany. When we go over to Europe whatever we buy we save our receipts. At the last airport you leave from to come back you can get all your taxes back. I think it's called vat taxes. Mainly o do this when coming back from Italy so I am not sure if Germany is the same. My biggest tax refund before coming home was $600. I should have looked this up before posting, but it's a thought if you are planning on spending money. Weight is ok if you stick them in a carry on...or if your checked stuff isn't that heavey you can put them in there.

Helll yeah buy some good German stuff

Can't have tools in your carry one. They will take them. Had to mail back a set of metric ignition wrenches because of them. I might take the plane apart. Also had to mail back the toroidal current transformers that I forgot with the wrenches.
