Hey guys, I need to find a headlamp that will fit on a hard hat and clip on in some way so it won't slip off. I've got a Pyramex Ridgeline hat, not a full brim. I'll add a picture of it. I know this is the Garage Journal but I assume there's plenty of you who use hard hats. Curious to see what you guys run and why. Obvious features I would prefer is good battery life, water resistant for outdoors, fairly robust, good illumination, etc. Thanks

Years ago they had one you velcrowed to your hard hat, the lite end would move so it fit the hard hat lip/brem, then they stopped making them.Worked pretty good while working as a power lineman.I remember them being yellow.

I have used a Streamlight Bandit. Very light and has good flood. They have an updated version with longer battery life I think. The company has now bought us Halo lights by Illumagear. Runs off 18650 rechargeable batteries.

It depends on what you are doing. If you are doing close up work and also need decent throw Petzl Pixa 3 is what you are looking for. Two AA batteries. Build for professional usage, rated for explosive environments. Water and shock proof. They last thousands of hours (I have tried) easy to use with gloves. No nonsense great light. Comes with mounts for hard hats.

You can search this forum for my rants about them. Some users have gotten one and been very pleased with them too. Buy once, cry once.

We use Bullard hardhats and they have clips to hold a standard headlamp band. I think most headlamps would just slip right off the helmets in your post. I've seen some lights that clip to the brim of a cap or hardhat, but not personally used one.

Like this one, but many out there.

If you can get past the band slipping off, I've been running a Black Diamond Icon for the past 12 years (yes, the same light that whole time). It has been an awesome light.

If you buy the streamlight rubber headlamp straps they never slip off. No clips required. I use several versions of the yellow one they have I believe they are like cyclops, trident and so forth. But they never fall off the hard hat and the straps are pretty much universal. Only cost about 6 bucks

I like energizer headlights decent quality and light. I'm an electrician so work in the dark is common. I have clips in the the slots that accept ear muffs or a face shield, and I just tuck the band under those and it stays put.

Some of my co-workers just lose the band and double side tape the light to the front.

If you can drill a hole, you can mount a Zebralight on just about any hard brim and aim it any way you like.

Surefire Minimus, it comes with the velcro. I have had one for 4 years on my hat with no issues. The variable output is nice when you're working on something directly in front of you.

I use a Black Diamond Spot on a climbing helmet - so it'll fit on a hardhat. Any mountaineering headlamp will be big enough to fit on a hard hat. But it won't have any features to hold it on other than the elastic band.

You can buy plastic clips really cheap on Amazon. I got a 50 pack for like 5 bucks to work on the full brim style

Thanks for the advices. I prefer to use hard hat while working, because I think it's much more reliable and also convenient. All the more so now there are many varieties of such products. Recently I have read critical information about different hard hats here https://systemofyoursafety.com/best-hard-hats/. The hard hats also are known as safety helmets are worn by labor workers and engineers mostly at construction, mining and drilling worksites. These protect workers from hurting their heads. If you decide to buy, I would advise you to read the reviews first.

I have a Petzl hard hat at work, with their Pixa headlamp accessory kit. The lamp snaps on the helmet, or can be used by itself with the included headband.

You’ve just rendered the hard hat useless at that point if you’ve drilling a hole in it.
I’d be making my guys wear the “pink, loaner hard hat” for the day if he showed up to work with a hole drilled in his.
