It is well after 10pm here, and finally cool enough to open the windows, and all I hear is a neighbor mowing his lawn, which he can only do because he has lights on his mower.

This is just wrong.

It is a little better than the last three weeks, which have been all mortar fire (illegal fireworks) until after midnight, which litter my yard with burned cardboard fragments and keep me up wondering when my trailer full of branches bound for the dump will catch fire.

He may just have a super busy schedule and this is the only time he can do it. Or prefers not to have the sun blazing on him in the middle of the day.

Nonetheless, I'd go over and talk to him nicely and tell him that you go to sleep around 10pm, and would prefer if he kept the noise down after that time...

Are you my neighbor?

I use the headlights on my tractor occasionally when mowing. Never have enough time on the weekend, so it's not uncommon for me to mow up to and after dark after work on a weeknight once in a while. I don't think I've ever gone much past ten though.

Also, I have two acres and only the neighbors within a half mile, so......

I live on acreage in the country. takes a good 3hrs. to mow. not uncommon for me to be mowing after dark, so I appreciate GOOD lights on the mower. noise is not a concern in the country.

keep in mind, many people use their rider with a blade or snowblower. plowing in the winter is almost always dark after work or before and the lights are needed then as well...

My Toro rider has headlights, but my wife gets the mowing done during daylight hours. The Cub, otoh, has 55 watt driving lights installed that I had left over from one of my previous trucks. No mower attachment for this one.

Don't ask.
I've done it but even with additional flood lights on my tractor it is difficult to see the last pass. (BTW: The I put the lights on for when I'm clearing snow).

Yep either prefers the cool air or works odd hours. I know I used to upset the neighbors when I mowed at 7AM but oh well, had to be done.

Neighbor would have pool parties with screaming kids till the wee hours ... during the week... I went out several times and asked them nicely to "keep it down"... they ignored me.

I parked my two lawn tractors at their gate Saturday and Sunday morning... and started them at full throttle at 7am... I also weed wacked and blew the same ONE leaf around my back yard for 1/2 an hour...

After they bitched... I explained the situation and have never ever heard from their side of the fence again.

I put lights on my 70-year-old father’s mower so he could mow in the evening when it was cooler rather than be out in the blazing sun. After 10pm is later than I’d expect my father to be out there, but it also sounds like it is quite a bit hotter out there.

I have a similar neighbor. It seems like everytime we have folks over for a cookout....Sat. around 6...7pm .....he decides he's going to cut. Not once be always twice. First time the length on the yard....5 AC lots......then diagonally. Then we weed wack. Never ends.

Time to make a voodoo doll and start sticking pins in it. Seriously, I have a neighbor that does the same. Everyone in the area would like to see him gone.

I went to UCF in the early 2000s' The entire campus would be cut at night with large lights on the back of the mowers to the operators could see.

I have a neighbor that mows in the dark. And it's usually on Sunday evenings. Seriously irritating. He also takes his trash out at midnight and a few times at 1am. And for the life of him, is not at all quiet about it.

My ZTR came with LED's. Novel, but just one more thing! I suppose with the efficiency of LED lighting, it took 1-2 days vs 1 hour with incandescent to drain the battery when I left the key on with the lights on by accident.

It's just as annoying as guys who run out at 5:30am to mow.

Or the guy who takes 3 hours to mow a 1/4 acre with a riding mower. Constantly turning the blade on and off. I don't know what he's doing over there. It's not like he's being meticulous, it looks like **** when he's done, lol.

Or the guy who has a yard full of roots and hits every one of them on every pass. I don't know how that guys mower even cuts. I bet that blade looks like the rocky mountains. I mean it barely gets up to speed before he slams into something. VrroooWHACK putt putt vroooWHACK putt putt...

There's a guy nearby that mows at night, even weed-whacks at night wearing a head lamp. He's far enough away that I can only hear it if I have the windows open, so it doesn't really bother me. Plus, at least he's quick about it.

I bought some LEDs to mount on mine, but that's only for running after the time change when it's dark at 6:30.

Our neighbor kid does that. Every other day, minimum 2 hours per session. Could be that he doesn't have a drivers license yet, and the tractor is something he can legally drive. ;)

For a guy that lives in IDAHO, must not be rural!
Planting here will go to midnight as most people accept the fact that the Farmers were here first! Bale hay at night too if there is no "Dew" on the ground!
Sometimes you do what you have to do to get all work done in a day!
Or it could be a Skin Cancer issue is why he waits till 10pm?

Lets keep in mind that twilight lasts until after 9:30 up north this time of year.
I think you need a neighbor like mine. They get the firepit going, smoke cigarettes and laugh until after midnight. On weeknights.
Or possibly the harley guy that drives by at 6:15 am and pulls in the clutch and revs the POS while gliding up to the stop sign. Every. Single. Weekday.

Sometimes if I work late, when I drive past the mega-farms they are out at night doing something with their huge tractors and floodlights. I never see any action on those farms on my normal drive to/from work. Maybe there is some advantage to night-farming? Who knows. I don't live next to any of them, so whatever, lol.

I'd love the kind of lifestyle where I didn't have to scramble to get the lawn done. Poor guy is probably stressed to get it done in his brief windows of availability between rain while worrying about how his neighbors will judge him if the grass gets too long. Be thankful you have a neighbor that cares about how his property looks.
The fireworks, however, are b.s. That would annoy me.

I passed through ID once a few years ago. Went through Idaho Falls or Twin Falls or both?
Anyway, along the Snake River. I didn't see any land wet enough to have a lawn without irrigation and I sure wouldn't pay for irrigation water so I could cut grass.

I assume the actual purpose of headlights on lawnmowers is to assist with maneuvering in dark areas such as trailers or sheds, or in the case of lawn tractors, so you can plow snow at night. I'm willing to bet that somewhere in the fine print of lawnmower manuals it tells you not to mow at night.

Got to go further North. I mow at night. Much cooler but no neighbors to worry about what I'm doing.
