Heat/AC worth it? Will it work in my garage?

Hey there,

I saw at my local Lowe's and saw a special order 8000 BTU AC/4000BTU heat through the wall unit marked way down. I have a 20x24 insulated detached garage w/ 3 windows. Is it worth it? I'm not looking for "in my house comfort", but enough to make it dealable to work in the summer and winter. I have a propane torpedo heater I use now, but it's loud and gives off fumes. It would be nice to have a heater and AC unit.

Thanks for the thoughts - Drew

4000BTU heat? I don't think you'd be happy with that as it would probably take forever to heat the garage up. Same with the A/C, depending on how hot it gets in there in the summer. I think it's more approriate for a small bedroom, not a garage.

Do you have insulated garage doors?

Garage doors are metal w/widows and 1" of insulation. Guess I'm just being wishful b/c it's such a good deal.

Thanks

i have approximately same size garage, insulated 8' ceiling, cinder block walls and my ac is 13,000 btu's. i would call it bare minimum. it gets nice in there most of the time, but when you get 90+ outside it barely keeps it comfortable. as for heat, i have an old furnace in the neighborhood of 40,000 btu's. it gets the job done, but cant get the temp above low 50's in the winter
